Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Who Needs the Kwik-E-Mart", who can't come up with a rhyme for "Kwik-E-Mart"?

Answer: Homer

When Homer and Channel 6 get Apu fired for selling tainted food, Apu lives with the Simpsons, trying to repay his debt for making Homer sick. Apu then decides to celebrate with a song called "Who Needs the Kwik-E-Mart." For the song, Apu asks everyone in the family who can talk to come up iwth a rhyme for Kwik-E-Mart.

Marge: Their floors are sticky-mart
Lisa: They made dad sick-e-mart
Bart: Let's hurl a brick-e-mart
Homer: The Kwik-E-Mart is real... D'oh!
2. Who was the title character in the Be Sharps' biggest hit?

Answer: Lisa

During Homer's time in a Barbershop Quartet, Marge showed Homer a sign that said "Baby on Board." At the time, the baby was Lisa. Homer used the sign to write a song. It became a number one hit in the Simpsons' Universe and it propelled the Be Sharps to superstardom.

Their fame would not last due to internal problems such as Barney getting a girlfriend and Homer's touring upsetting his family.
3. This one-time character sang a lot of classic songs for the Simpsons. Unfortunately, the family learned nothing from her, which made her miserable. To make matters worse, she gets hit by an airplane and killed when she flies away. Who was she?

Answer: Shary Bobbins

One episode is a parody of "Mary Poppins". The other three family members stress out Marge with their constant requests to do stuff. She begins to lose hair from the stress. Upon Dr. Hibbert's suggestion, the Simpsons decide to hire a nanny. The nanny is Shary Bobbins who is obviously a parody of Mary Poppins.

She sings songs for the family to get them to do their chores and homework and fall asleep. Songs she sings include "Cut Every Corner" and "A Boozehound Named Barney", which are parodies of the Mary Poppins songs "A Spoonful of Sugar" and "Feed the Birds".
4. "We Do!" was the theme song for what group?

Answer: Stonecutters

Homer gets suspicious when he sees that Lenny and Carl, people who are supposed to beneath him at work, have no problem getting to work on time and have better chairs than him. He gets more suspicious when they don't want to hang out with him anymore. Homer then tapes a bucket of yellow paint to the back of their car and follows them, to find that they are part of the Stonecutters. Homer joins the Stonecutters after his father is a member. Things get better for the Simpsons for a while. The plumber finally fixes a pipe in the basement, Homer has a short cut to work, and he gets the same chair Lenny and Carl have.

At their lodge, the Stonecutters sing a celebration song where the refrain is "We do! We do!"
5. Who was the main actor in the musical based on "Planet of the Apes"?

Answer: Troy McClure

Troy McClure's acting career goes south when it's discovered that actors who have families get all the major roles. So he marries Patty Bouvier just to help his career. The sham works. One of the roles he gets is the lead in the Planet of the Apes musical. Memorable parts if this non-stop laughfest include:

Troy: What's the matter Dr. Zaius?
Dr. Zaius: I think you're crazy.
Troy: I want a second opinion
Dr Zaius: You're also lazy.

Troy: Can I play the piano anymore?
Dr Zaius: Of course you can
Troy: Well I couldn't before.

Troy: I hate every ape I see from chimpan-a to chimpanzee
6. In season six, who sings a parody of a song from "The Little Mermaid"?

Answer: Homer

In "Homer Badman", Homer gets wrongfully accused of sexual harassment after he takes a piece of candy off of a young woman's bottom. To get away from these accusations, Homer suggests living under the sea. He sings a parody of the song "Under the Sea" from "The Little Mermaid".

In a later episode, it is discovered that Homer actually did buy a house under the sea, causing Marge to divorce him. Marge takes him back after feeling bad for him when Krusty beats him up.
7. When the workers at the power plant lose their dental plan, who sings a folk song to try and bring it back?

Answer: Lisa

The power plant offers a free beer policy instead of a dental plan. This especially harms Lisa, who needs braces. To fight for the dental plan, Homer becomes president of the workers' union. The workers go on strike, and Lisa sings a folk song to protest:

"So we'll march day and night by the big cooling tower. They have the plant, but we have the power."

When Mr. Burns cuts off the power to everything in the city and everybody else is ready to give up, it is Lisa who keeps the protest going with her folk. The workers win, and Mr. Burns give them back their dental plan, although Homer has to resign as president of the union.
8. In season nine, who sings a parody of a song from a musical based on a Roald Dahl book?

Answer: Homer

Homer becomes the sanitation commissioner of Springfield after making a bunch of "crazy promises" that garbage men can clean gutters, take out the trash for you, work 24-hours a day, etc. Marge questions whether the garbage men can really do these things. Homer assures her that they can with a song called "The Garbage Man Can", which is an obvious parody of "The Candy Man Can" from the movie "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory".
9. In the "Kids/Adults" song, who wins the fight between the kids and the adults?

Answer: Senior Citizens

The kids of Springfield and the adults of Springfield quarrel with each other after Chief Wiggum wrongfully blames kids for acts of vandalism that were actually caused by Homer, and places a curfew on them. The kids resent this and disobey the curfew.

This fight culminates in a musical, where the adults sing about how bad the kids are and vice-versa. In the middle of the kids' verse, the senior citizens interrupt to tell both younger generations "We're trying to get some sleep here. It's almost 6:15!" At the end of the episode, a law in Springfield is passed and there is a curfew for everybody under 70.

The law was passed by one vote, and Homer didn't vote. Nice going, Homer!
10. When Homer promises to Marge that he won't drink beer for a month (after futilely trying to promise her "no deer for a month"), Homer sings a song called "I Drank Some Very Good Beer". This is a parody of a song first sung by someone on whose enemies' list?

Answer: Mr. Burns

The song being parodied was "It Was a Very Good Year." It was written by Ervin Drake for The Kingston Trio, who recorded it for their 1961 album "Goin' Places." Frank Sinatra made the song more popular when he sang in in 1965 but Bob Shane was the first person to sing it. The Kingston Trio are number one on Mr. Burns' enemies' list.
