Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Our first spineless critter in this quiz is a lobster which Homer bought with the intention of eating, but grew close to after caring for it whilst it grew. What was its name?

Answer: Pinchy

After a craving for lobster in the supermarket, Homer attempted to buy the largest one in stock. However, he was prevented from doing so by the price and so bought the smallest lobster with the intention of either eating it or selling it on for profit.

After arriving home with his new lobster, Homer placed it into the fish tank, before being told by Lisa that lobsters needed salt water to survive. Homer proceeded to add water and salt to the tank so that neither the lobster nor the goldfish were floating lifeless at the surface.

When it came to cooking Pinchy, Homer resisted as Marge encouraged him to "chuck" the lobster into the pot of boiling water. However, Homer was later shocked to realised that he inadvertently cooked Pinchy whilst intending to give him a "nice hot bath".
2. "Argh, Squidy, I got nothin' against ya. I just heard there was gold in your belly". These words were spoken by the Sea Captain after wrestling with the giant invertebrate. What was the name of Homer's band, whose song was the reason for the Sea Captain's placation?

Answer: The Be Sharps

In this episode, Homer tells Bart and Lisa of how he used to be in a band. The band was founded by Homer, Apu, Skinner, and Chief Wiggum, but after Wiggum was declared to be "too village people" by the band's manager, he was replaced by Barney.

The band's story is based loosely around the story of the Beatles. The Be Sharps held several interviews which were reminiscent of the charmingly arrogant Beatles back in the 60s and 70s. The band's second album was also called "Bigger Than Jesus" and depicted them walking on water in a similar style to the front cover of Abbey Road.
3. In the episode, "Brake My Wife, Please", Principal Skinner announced that he had found two large yellow pearls inside of a giant clam. What do these "pearls" turn out to be?

Answer: Bart's butt!

Also in this episode, Homer went overboard with car gadgets (e.g. a fax machine, DVD player and deep fryer) and accidentally drove into the sea due to obstructed vision. As a result, Homer's driving license was taken away and he became (even more) dependent on Marge, leading her to become resentful towards him. Homer later discovered the joys of walking and became fit, but was later immobilized by Marge, who ran him over with her car whilst carrying out Homer's errands.

As the class and Principal Skinner recoiled in shock, Bart tried to swim away triumphantly, but was restrained by an octopus and beaten up by a sea turtle and hammerhead shark!
4. Homer is well known for fighting dirty and even used starfish as "death stars" whilst fighting Bart's sponsor from the Big Brother programme whilst at the Springfield aquarium. What was Bart's sponsor's name?

Answer: Tom

After failing to pick Bart up from a soccer game, Homer fell out of favour with Bart, who went as far as to claim that he had no father. As a result, the Big Brother programme provided Bart with Tom, a Navy pilot who took him on many entertaining trips (e.g. motorbike riding and hand-gliding). Homer soon discovered this and attempted to get even with Bart by getting a "little brother" from the same agency. This boy was named Pepi.

Homer and Tom began to fight at the Springfield aquarium and this spilled out into the town centre, where Homer fell and injured his spine on a fire hydrant. In the end, Tom and Pepi were paired up by Bart to be "brothers".
5. After an illness arrived in Springfield, the people demanded a cure. Being told that anything given to them would only be a placebo, they went in search of said placebo. Which invertebrates did they find whilst searching?

Answer: Killer bees

After opening a crate in a nearby truck, a swarm of killer bees emerged and the crowds fled.

The disease originally arrived in cardboard boxes which contained "Juice-Looseners" - a product advertised by Dr. Nick Riviera and Troy McClure.

As Marge frantically attempted to cater to her ill family, she became over-stressed and was found to have stolen a bottle of bourbon from the Kiwk-E-Mart. After taking Marge's measurements (8' 6"), Apu pressed charges and landed Marge in jail. The town soon descended into chaos in the absence of Marge and demanded her release.
6. As a Hindu, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon believes in reincarnation. Which invertebrate does Apu claim he will be in his next life?

Answer: A tapeworm

In this episode ("The Sweetest Apu"), Manjula demanded a divorce after finding out that Apu slept with the "Squishee girl" (called Annette). Apu later contemplated suicide, telling Homer that in his next life he will become a tapeworm and, after that, Lorne Michaels. We also learn that in past lives, Apu has been a snake, a tiger, and a goat with a hat!

Manjula and Apu were brought together by a marriage arranged by their parents when they were children. Manjula gave birth to octuplets.
7. After eating expired ham from the Kwik-E-Mart, Homer demanded an explanation, but was quickly appeased by what type of seafood?

Answer: Shrimp

The expiration date was scribbled out by Apu and placed on the bargain rack, where it was quickly snapped up by Homer. Homer was taken to hospital and was told that the cause of his illness was either the ingestion of spoiled food, or a voodoo curse, at which point Patty and Selma revealed a doll of Homer and claimed, "Hey, we've just been working the eyes".

After being offered 5 pounds of frozen shrimp, Homer claimed that it wasn't frozen at all and that it smelled funny, but he then accepted the offer of a further 5 pounds. Predictably, Homer became even more ill and, undercover, later revealed the poor condition of the Kwik-E-Mart, causing Apu to lose his job.
8. Referring to his next life, which invertebrate did Bart plan to become, before burning the local school to the ground?

Answer: A butterfly

The flash-forward in this episode depicted Bart holding a can of "gas" and the police dragging Principal Skinner away, assuming that he was responsible for the fire. Skinner exclaimed, "But I didn't burn the school down. It was the butterfly, I tell you, the butterfly!" To which Chief Wiggum replied, "He's crazy, boys. Get the taser." Bart ended this scene with the classic line, "Nobody ever suspects the butterfly."

Bart told Lisa this whilst trying to comfort her over the loss of "Bleeding Gums" Murphy - her fellow jazz saxophonist.
9. In Treehouse of Horror VIII, Bart observed that if two animals were to enter Homer's teleportation device together they would become fused. Which invertebrate did Bart intentionally enter the machine with?

Answer: A fly

Homer purchased this set of teleportation portals from professor Frink, who was holding a yard sale. Initially, he used the machines for fairly mundane tasks, such as getting a beer out of the fridge (although he actually ended up drinking the cat's ear medicine) and going to the toilet.

He also forbade Bart from using the machine, which, of course, Bart disobeyed as he snuck downstairs in the middle of the night. First he watched as Santa's Little Helper and Snowball II entered and emerged from the second portal as a two headed animal.

There was also a second creature created which consisted of the back ends of both animals. In the thought that he would become some sort of superhuman fly-hero, Bart stepped inside as the insect landed on his arm.

Instead, he emerged with his own head and the body of a fly, whereas the fly's head ended up on his body and caused havoc in the family home.
10. After being launched into outer space, which invertebrates were released by Homer, who accidentally smashed their glass container?

Answer: Ants

After poor ratings for shuttle launches, NASA decided they wanted an "every day man" to go into space. After Homer phoned in to criticize NASA, they decided that they wanted him to be this "every day man". However, Homer blamed Barney for the abusive call and eventually both men ended up having to compete for a place in the shuttle which was to contain Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.

Although Barney was victorious, he got drunk during his celebration and was deemed unfit to go into space (although it was later revealed that the wine Barney was drinking was non-alcoholic). Homer therefore stepped up to the plate, seeing it as a way of gaining respect. As soon as the crew were in zero gravity, problems arose due to Homer's stupid actions, such as the opening of a bag of potato chips. Whilst trying to recover (eat) the floating chips, Homer smashed into the on-board ant farm. Channel 5 news later reported that the shuttle had been taken over by giant ants and reporter Kent Brockman submitted himself to the ant lords.
