Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy II", after summoning the eponymous heroes to do exhausting chores for him with the special conch shell he won in a contest, SpongeBob is allowed to spend the day patrolling with his heroes. Which retired villain does he attack after the heroes joke that he could return to villainy any day now?

Answer: Atomic Flounder

SpongeBob receives a conch shell from a contest that summons Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy for emergencies, which he won by making life-size Krabby Patty mannequins of his heroes. When he blows it for the first time, he is astonished when the heroes appear, but they tell him off for using it when there is no danger. They soften and tell SpongeBob he can use it periodically as long as he gives them a task to do when they turn up. However, SpongeBob takes advantage of this and they take the conch away from him. He begins to cry and says that he only summoned them so frequently because he wants to spend time with them, so they let him join them on patrol.

While on patrol, waiting at a set of traffic lights, the trio sees an old man waiting to cross, and the heroes tell SpongeBob that he used to be the Atomic Flounder and they joke that he could return to being a villain any day now. SpongeBob doesn't realise they're joking and attacks him! He also meets another villain, the Dirty Bubble, when he traps Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy within himself. SpongeBob is awed at meeting a favourite villain and approaches the bubble with a sharpened pencil, asking for an autograph, and accidentally pops him, freeing his heroes and saving the day.
2. In "Your Shoe's Untied", Patrick gets a new pair of shoes and wears them on his hands because he is ashamed to admit that he can't tie his shoelaces. SpongeBob offers to teach him but to his horror, after undoing his own laces, he finds that can't remember how to tie a knot! Who eventually ties them for him?

Answer: Gary

SpongeBob hides the fact from Patrick that he has forgotten how to tie his laces and suggests to Patrick that he's late for something, prompting him to postpone the lesson. SpongeBob assumes that it'll come back to him after a good night's sleep but is dismayed when he wakes in the morning and still can't remember. He tries to live his life as normal with untied shoes, including going to work as usual at the Krusty Krab. However, he can't do his job properly and the customers get angry. When Mr. Krabs comes to see what the commotion is, SpongeBob admits his problem and asks his boss to re-teach him how to tie his laces but Mr. Krabs doesn't know how as he doesn't wear shoes!

SpongeBob tries desperately to find someone in town who can teach him how to tie his shoes but doesn't manage to. His shouts of anguish catch the attention of the ghost, the Flying Dutchman, who eagerly shows SpongeBob his contest-winning knots, but as he hasn't worn shoes for hundreds of years, he cannot tie SpongeBob's shoes. Dejected, SpongeBob returns home resigned to living a life of untied shoes, and to his surprise Gary ties them for him! He plays SpongeBob a record called "Loop de Loop" that finally teaches him how to tie his laces.
3. In "Squid's Day Off", Mr. Krabs has to go to the hospital after an injury and Squidward is put in charge. Shirking his duty, he in turn puts SpongeBob in charge and takes the day off at home, but he starts worrying that SpongeBob will make mistakes. Which of these does he NOT imagine SpongeBob has done?

Answer: Given Plankton the Krabby Patty formula

Mr. Krabs gets his hand stuck in the drain trying to save a dime that he dropped while washing coins that had fallen on the floor. SpongeBob pulls so hard to get him out that his arms break off and his body hits the wall, causing a shelf to break and its contents to hit him on the head one by one. He puts Squidward in charge as he is taken to the hospital and Squidward gleefully tricks SpongeBob by offering him a "promotion", i.e. working two jobs at once while Squidward goes home to relax.

However, he keeps rushing back to check on him, imagining SpongeBob ruining the business in various ways, such as giving Patrick all the money in the register as change for a dollar and setting the restaurant on fire. The thoughts get more vivid and Squidward begins to go mad, constantly running back and forward to the Krusty Krab to check to SpongeBob. Eventually he turns up naked and raving, and decides his "day off" is over and he wants his cashier job back instead of acting manager. However, he gets a shock when SpongeBob points out he forgot to change the "Closed" sign to "Open", so they could have had the whole day off anyway.
4. In "Something Smells", SpongeBob eats a homemade sundae containing onions which gives him extremely bad breath. However, Patrick cannot smell it as he has no nose and so suggests that people are avoiding SpongeBob because he is ugly. What does he encourage SpongeBob to yell from the roof of his house: "I'm ugly and I'm _____"?

Answer: Proud

On a Sunday morning, SpongeBob realises he doesn't have any ice cream to make a sundae, so he makes one up of onions, ketchup, and a peanut plant. Unfortunately it gives him extremely bad breath but he is unaware, and he becomes confused when everyone in town runs away from him screaming. Upset, he asks Patrick what the problem could be, but Patrick has no nose and can't smell SpongeBob's bad breath, so Patrick comes to the conclusion that SpongeBob is ugly.

This news sends him into a depression and he isolates himself at home to avoid his ugliness being seen. Patrick tries to make him feel better, and encourages him to go onto his roof and scream "I'm ugly and I'm proud!" This ends up making SpongeBob feel empowered and they go to the cinema together, but seeing people's reactions again makes SpongeBob upset. Every single person leaves the cinema, and so when they see no one is manning the snack bar, SpongeBob offers Patrick some leftover sundae. Smelling Patrick's awful breath, SpongeBob realises that his bad breath has been offending people and that he's not ugly after all.
5. In "Bossy Boots", Pearl gets a summer job at the Krusty Krab and wants to give the restaurant a makeover to appeal to younger people. She and SpongeBob come up with many different new names for the restaurant. Which one of these do they choose?

Answer: Kuddly Krab

For the Kuddly Krab, Pearl also replaces the outdoor sign and the employee uniforms, humiliating Squidward who resents taking orders from a teenager. SpongeBob is enthusiastic about the changes, which are bringing in lots of "hip" new customers, until Pearl changes the menu, removing Krabby Patties and only offering salad and tea. The last straw for him is when Pearl asks him to stand outside in a crab costume to promote the restaurant and he summons his courage to complain to Mr. Krabs.

His boss first tries to defend his daughter but eventually admits he's losing money because of the changes she's made and commands SpongeBob to fire her. Much to SpongeBob's relief, when he takes Pearl aside to break the news, she bursts into tears and admits that she's been trying to get fired from day one and only took the job to please her father. SpongeBob finds a solution to keep both Mr. Krabs and Pearl happy, by pretending to fire Pearl and face the consequences with Mr. Krabs later. The plan works and although Mr. Krabs is upset because he thinks Pearl was fired, SpongeBob assures him she took the news well.
6. In "Big Pink Loser", Patrick is disheartened that SpongeBob has so many awards and trophies and he has none, so he gets a job at the Krusty Krab to try to win one for his accomplishments. Does Patrick manage to win an award in this episode?

Answer: Yes

A trophy for SpongeBob is accidentally delivered to Patrick's house, who believes it's for him. He becomes even more upset when he realises SpongeBob already has a room full of trophies and he has none. SpongeBob helps him get a job at the Krusty Krab to help him feel fulfilled, but Patrick struggles with every task he is assigned.

Eventually SpongeBob manages to teach him to open a jar by "doing exactly as I do", and Patrick takes the instruction to heart and begins to copy SpongeBob in every aspect of life, including his clothes, his home, and even falling over when SpongeBob does by accident. SpongeBob begins to get frustrated at this, and tries to get him to stop by dressing up as Patrick and acting like him, but it just upsets Patrick even more that he is just a "big pink loser". He is annoyed when yet another trophy arrives, thinking it's for SpongeBob again, but actually Patrick has won an award for "doing absolutely nothing for longer than anyone else". Pleased, he goes back to his normal life to protect his title.
7. In "Bubble Buddy", SpongeBob's friends are all busy so he blows a bubble to act as his friend. He treats Bubble Buddy as a real person and they cause havoc throughout Bikini Bottom, such as paying Mr. Krabs in bubble money instead of real cash. What holiday named after a famous explorer are they celebrating that day?

Answer: Leif Erikson

Leif Erikson Day is on October 9th and celebrates Erikson being the first known European to set foot on mainland North America. SpongeBob wears a viking hat and visits his friends but they are all busy so he creates Bubble Buddy. Aside from paying Mr. Krabs in bubble money for "one of everything" on the Krusty Krab menu, their antics include holding up the toilet for hours while Bubble Buddy "goes".

They even seem to kill a fish who is buried in the sand, as SpongeBob leaves Bubble Buddy to dig him out before the tide comes in! Worse is that by the end of the episode, Bubble Buddy shows that he is actually alive, so he could have saved the fish after all! He comes to life to stop a group of angry citizens including Squidward from popping him because of all the things he and SpongeBob have done.
8. In "Dying For Pie", Squidward is feeling guilty for inadvertently feeding SpongeBob a pie that was really a bomb and so he is spending SpongeBob's last day with him to make it special. Which ones of these is NOT on SpongeBob's list of fun things to do for the day?

Answer: Perform brain surgery

It is Employee Brotherhood Day, and SpongeBob and Squidward must give each other a handmade gift. SpongeBob gives Squidward a sweater made from eyelashes, and, when he rejects the itchy unfitting garment, he makes another out of tears! When he sees a group of pirates with sacks of pies, Squidward gets the idea to buy one of the pies and pass it off as homemade. They explain it's a bomb but Squidward thinks they're just pretending so as not to give him one. When Mr. Krabs decides to taste the pie before giving it to SpongeBob, he trips with a small crumb in his hand that results in an explosion big enough to take out the whole back wall of the Krusty Krab! When they get back to the ruined office to take away the pie, it's gone and SpongeBob is licking his fingers and thanks Squidward for the pie.

Feeling guilty after Mr. Krabs assures him that the pie will explode and kill SpongeBob by sunset once it hits his lower intestine, Squidward vows to make SpongeBob's last day on Earth as special as possible and conveniently, SpongeBob already has a list of things to do with a best friend. This includes showing Squidward to everyone in town (and then a second time with Squidward wearing a salmon suit!), knock-knock jokes, open heart surgery (rather than brain surgery from the question) and finally, watching the sunset. A tearful Squidward builds a wall between them and accidentally says that sunsets remind him of explosions. They count down the seconds until sunset and Squidward is distraught when he hears an explosion, assuming the pie has blown up and killed SpongeBob. However, after a second explosion, he realises SpongeBob is alive and blowing bubbles shaped like bombs that explode. Angry, he explains about the pie and SpongeBob tells him he was saving it for later to share with Squidward, but accidentally trips and the pie-bomb explodes in Squidward's face.
9. In "Imitation Krabs", Plankton has disguised himself as a robot version of Mr. Krabs in his latest attempt to steal the Krabby Patty formula. After a ritual that goes on for hours and hours, SpongeBob is about to give the imposter Krabs the secret formula when the real Krabs walks in. Does SpongeBob correctly choose which Mr. Krabs is the real one?

Answer: No

Poor SpongeBob is immediately fooled by the robot Krabs, although Squidward can tell it's not really his boss straight away. Plankton gets Squidward to keep the secret by "giving" him the day off from work. However, the real Mr. Krabs keeps calling SpongeBob for things and so Plankton uses a penny to lure Mr. Krabs out of the restaurant.

He asks SpongeBob to talk about the formula but is told that they can't discuss it without having done the "secret handshake", which turns into an hours long ritual of complicated tasks. At the end of the ritual, Plankton is angry when SpongeBob says they still can't talk about the formula, but he explains that they can't talk about it out loud and gives him a copy of the formula instead. Just as Plankton is about to take it, the penny comes back into the restaurant kitchen where they are, followed by the real Mr. Krabs. SpongeBob asks them both questions about the Krusty Krab in order to determine which one is his real boss, but unfortunately he asks the real Krabs a question too complicated so he can't answer it. Luckily, Plankton's plan is foiled when SpongeBob picks up the penny that lured Krabs and puts it into the robot's "self destruct" slot, causing Plankton's robot to blow up, and SpongeBob realises what he's done.
10. In "Wormy", SpongeBob and Patrick are pet-sitting for Sandy Cheeks while she is out of town. After an enjoyable day playing with their favourite pet, they come back the next day and it seems a monster has come into Sandy's treedome and eaten their friend! What animal is it that they are so afraid of?

Answer: Butterfly

Sandy shows her pets to SpongeBob and Patrick and explains how to care for them. They bond immediately with Wormy, who turns out to be a caterpillar rather than a worm. After a wonderful day playing with Wormy, SpongeBob and Patrick look forward to more of the same the next day, but overnight Wormy has undergone metamorphosis into a butterfly. SpongeBob and Patrick don't know about caterpillars and butterflies so when they see the butterfly in the jar Wormy lives in, with no sign of the worm, they assume the butterfly has eaten Wormy!

In their panic, they try to capture the butterfly. After SpongeBob has blown a bubble around it, they let it out of the treedome in order to protect Sandy's other pets but realise it's heading for Bikini Bottom. They get the whole town into a panic over the "monster" and warn Mr. Krabs and Squidward about it. They are skeptical until they get a good look at the butterfly, which scares them so much, they run away, leading SpongeBob and Patrick to think they've also been eaten! Bikini Bottom is destroyed by the panicking townspeople, and when Sandy soon returns, she thinks a twister has hit the town. Seeing the butterfly in the bubble, she greets Wormy and puts him into another jar, leading the townspeople to praise her for "saving" them from the monster! Sandy thinks that her warm welcome is just because she's been away and doesn't realise it's because they were terrified of Wormy!
