Lt. Commander Data was portrayed by Brent Spiner. He was an android created by Dr. Soong and had a "brother" named Lore. He became good friends with Geordi La Forge. Data's cat, Spot, made appearances in several episodes. During the series, Data strove to gain a better understanding of humanity.

Lt. Tasha Yar was security chief on the Enterprise during the first season of the show. The character was killed off, allowing the actor, Denise Crosby, to seek other roles. An alternate-universe version of Yar travelled into the past and became the mother of the half-human/half-Romulan child, Sela.

Commander William Riker was played by Jonathan Frakes. His character was clean shaven in the first season before sporting a beard for the remainder of the show. Serving as first officer on the Enterprise, he was called Number One by Captain Picard. A fan of jazz, Riker could play the trombone.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard was portrayed by Patrick Stewart. Picard was grew up on a vineyard in France. A common catch phrase used by Picard was "Make it so", when speaking to his crew. The Captain was also known for the "Picard Maneuver", used for adjusting his uniform.

Dr. Beverly Crusher was portrayed by Gates Mc Fadden in every season of the show but the second. During the second season, Crusher ran Star Fleet Medical. Crusher's husband, Jack, had been Picard's first officer in the past. Her son, Wesley, appeared in many episodes.

Chief Miles O'Brien was played by Colm Meaney. The character appeared in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine". Unlike some other characters he was both a husband and a father. He was often seen operating the transporters.

In early episodes of "Str Trek: The Next Generation", O'Brien was seen with the pips of and addressed as Lieutenant before his rank was finally settled as Chief Petty Officer.

Lieutenant Worf was portrayed by Michael Dorn. Beginning as tactical officer, he later served as security chief. Worf, the son of Mogh, was orphaned as a young child and raised by human foster parents. Rediscovering his Klingon heritage, being honorable was very important to him.

The mysterious bartender, Guinan, was portrayed by Whoopi Goldberg. Often operating out of Ten Forward, she would dispense advice to crew and guests alike. She seemed to hold special animosity towards the Q.

Lieutenant (later Lt. Commander) Geordi La Forge was played by Le Var Burton. La Forge started at the ship's helm before transferring to engineering. The character was blind but was able to "see" quite a bit because of his VISOR device.

Counselor Deanna Troi was played by Marina Sirtis. Troi had a human father and a Betazed mother. Troi was able to sense emotions because of her heritage. She loved chocolate in all of its forms.
