Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Yeoman Janice Rand - "Star Trek: The Original Series"

Answer: Grace Lee Whitney

Grace Lee Whitney played Yeoman Janice Rand in "Star Trek: The Original Series". The first episode that she appeared in was, "The Man Trap" 1966. Although she appeared in eight of the first 13 episodes her character was axed from the show during that first series. She became very bitter about it and turned to drink. She explained in an later interview that there were two blondes and one had to go, the other one (Majel Barrett) was engaged to the boss so guess who had to go. She reappeared (playing the same character) in "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" in 1979, after being seen in the unemployment line and given words of encouragement by DeForest Kelley.

Before "Star Trek", Grace was a member of the all-female band in the 1959 movie "Some Like It Hot", starring Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis. She played Kiki the Cossack in the 1963 movie "Irma la Douce", starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine. On TV she appeared in many shows including "Wagon Train", "Gunsmoke", "77 Sunset Strip" and Batman. She died of natural causes at her home in Coarsegold, California, USA, in 2015, aged 85.

Answer: Elisha Cook Jr.

Elisha Cook Jr. played Attorney-at-law Samuel T. Cogley who defended Captain James Tiberius Kirk in the episode of "Star Trek: The Original Series", "Court Martial" in 1967. Of course it goes without saying that he got Kirk acquitted, as the person he was accused of killing was still alive on the starship Enterprise. I was not surprised and very happy when my favourite American character actor turned up in my favourite (at the time) sci-fi series.

He appeared up in many movies ("The Big Sleep" 1946, "Shane" 1953, "The Killing" 1956" and "Electra Glide In Blue" 1973), he also appeared in many TV shows. Elisha Cook Jr. who had an acting career in movies and TV that lasted six decades, died of a stroke in Big Pine, California, USA, in 1995, aged 91. He was the last surviving cast member of the 1941 movie "The Maltese Falcon" starring Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor, Peter Lorre, Sydney Greenstreet, Barton MacLane and Ward Bond.
