Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On the first day of the competition, the castaways were left with nothing but the clothes on their back and a copy of which literature written by Sun Tzu?

Answer: The Art of War

Leaving Shanghai on a train and then taking a truck to their destination, the sixteen castaways were asked to enjoy a welcoming ceremony before dropping their things and heading out with their maps to their new campsites. They were also handed a single copy of "The Art of War", a work which should inspire their gameplay. Both tribes had their camps erected near the Zhelin Reservoir. Fei Long wore red while Zhan Hu wore yellow and both had eight members.
2. One interesting twist in this season was the ability to do which of these after each Reward Challenge?

Answer: Kidnap an opposing tribe member

While teams were still in two distinct tribes, they were able to compete for Reward and Immunity as normal. After each Reward Challenge, however, tribes were able to kidnap a member of the opposing tribe, bringing them to their camp until the proceeding Immunity Challenge and partaking in any rewards gained during that event. Through the course of the game, Jaime, Leslie, Dave, and James were all kidnapped once before the tribes merged and the game mechanic was scrapped. Each time, the kidnapped member was required to hand off an item to a single member of the host tribe.
3. Where were the two Hidden Immunity Idols found in this season?

Answer: In the tribes' camps

When a kidnapped tribe member appeared in the opposition's camp they were required to hand off a sealed clue to the Hidden Immunity Idol located within their respective camps. Both tribes received the same clues as both were in the same spots, on the side of a pagoda at the entrance to their camps.

When Todd located the placard in the Fei Long camp, he gave it to an opposing team member to protect them from the next vote. That person went on to claim the second idol as well.
4. After the tribal switch on Day 13, which castaway did not flip onto a different team?

Answer: Courtney

When tribes awaited their Reward Challenge on Day 13, they instead received a note asking that they circle two names of members of the other tribe. Those two members were then sent to the opposing tribe as permanent additions. James and Aaron, Fei Long's strongest (physically), went to Zhan Hu. Frosty and Sherea headed to Fei Long.

Despite the switch, Zhan Hu was unable to overcome their losing streak for another several days (partially because of a decision to throw the challenge). The decisions made during the switch greatly impacted Zhan Hu's successes in the long-term.
5. What was the name of the black-buffed merged tribe?

Answer: Hae Da Fung

On Day 19, the two tribes united for a feast and a merge. At the feast, the castaways were unaware that awareness of their surroundings would play a large role in the next Immunity Challenge, during which they needed to recall details of their previous day. Later on, the castaways named their new, black-buffed tribe Hae Da Fung, a name which meant 'Black Fighting Wind'.

They lived at the earlier Fei Long camp because they had merged with the most tribe members.
6. Which castaway unveiled a fake Immunity Idol at Tribal Council before their elimination?

Answer: Jaime

Before the merge, Jaime discovered the idols in a castaway's belongings (and by discovered, I mean she rooted through their bags) and believed she knew where to find her own. When she presented her placard at Tribal Council on Day 21 she surprised everyone, but Jeff informed her that she was not in possession of anything of value and threw the placard into the fire. During the same Tribal Council, Jaime was eliminated with a vote of 7-3 to become the first jury member.

This was the first time in "Survivor" history that a castaway blindly used a non-idol.
7. This season featured several once-in-a-lifetime rewards. Which of these was not given to the winner of a Reward Challenge?

Answer: A visit to a panda bear sanctuary

While all of the tribe-specific Reward Challenges were for essentials and luxury items (such as a tarp, blankets, food, fishing gear, etc.), the individual rewards were once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to experience China in its natural and man-made beauty. Amanda, Courtney, Erik, and Frosti took an overnight cruise on the Lishui River while Peih-Gee, Denise, and Erik went to the Shaolin Temple.

The penultimate Reward Challenge gave Denise the opportunity to bring Todd and Courtney with her on an overnight trip to the Great Wall of China.
8. Although James had both Hidden Immunity Idols, he was eliminated without using them.

Answer: True

James not only found the idol hidden in the Zhan Hu camp, but he was given an idol by Todd in the Fei Long camp during his kidnapping. Heading into the merge with both idols, he was doubly-protected from any threats. He was, however, tricked on Day 30 when he was blindsided by the group for being too large a physical threat. By banding together, the camp had a near-unanimous vote against James, ridding them of their biggest threat and creating a relatively even playing field.
9. How many people were on the jury in this season?

Answer: Seven

Although the two previous seasons upped the amount of jury members to nine exiled tribe members, "Survivor: China" returned the jury standings to the typical seven people beginning with Jaime, the first person to be eliminated following the tribal merge.

In the end, like the last few seasons, three people advanced to the final Tribal Council to compete for the million dollar votes. This ensured that there was no possibility of a tie game though this could have happened with nine people on the jury (in the case of a 3-3-3 vote).
10. Which castaway became the Sole Survivor of "Survivor: China"?

Answer: Todd

After a final vote on Day 39 in China, the million dollars was awarded to Todd Herzog over Courtney Yates and Amanda Himmel. Todd received four votes, one each from Peih-Gee, Frosti, Jaime, and Jean-Robert, because he allegedly played a better game. Courtney came in second place with two votes, one each from Denise and James, while Amanda's vote came from Erik. Todd ended up receiving votes from the four previous Tribal Councils but he ended up surviving each elimination to come back and win; he also never won Individual Immunity, instead winning through pure strategy. Neither Amanda nor Courtney received votes during previous Tribal Councils.
