Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Tribes, at the start of this game, were divided by which means?

Answer: Genders

Upon arriving at their starting destination, the eighteen castaways of this season were immediately split into two tribes of nine down gender lines with all of the men taking orange buffs as Manono and all of the women taking blue buffs as Salani. They had sixty seconds to salvage what they could from the back of their arrival vehicle and were given separate maps to their camps. What they did not know was that both camps were set up on the same beach; they would be living together in the same area but would still be competing as two distinct tribes for the first time in "Survivor" history.
2. In the very first challenge, which castaway was medically evacuated from the competition?

Answer: Kourtney

The first Reward/Immunity Challenge was a complicated obstacle course visited on Day 3 wherein the tribes needed to jump from a twenty-five foot tall tower into a net, cross a balance beam, and get over a rope bridge. Kourtney, who required medical attention, took the first jump but landed on her wrist. Ultimately, Salani was disqualified for having too few competitors and they were sent to Tribal Council. Though the Manono tribe was given the opportunity to complete the challenge as a gesture of good faith, they refused. Ultimately, no one was voted out; Kourtney's wrist was broken and required surgery, so she was removed from the game.
3. How many Hidden Idols were placed into the game?

Answer: Three

Hidden Idols went into play from the get-go with two being planted into their hiding spaces around the combined camp. On Day 2, Sabrina found the first idol only to discover that it was only usable by the Manono tribe; she had to hand it off to one of the men by the next Tribal Council. She gave it to Colton on Day 3.
The second idol went to Kim who sought it out on Day 14. Since it was the Salani idol, she had no need to hand it off.
Troyzan found a third idol, open for anyone's use, on Day 19; it was revealed to the players that this third idol would be put into play at the Reward Challenge the day before.
4. In episode 4, Manono won the Immunity Challenge, but what critical decision did they make?

Answer: To give up immunity

Although the women of Salani got themselves into a streak of wins, the Immunity Challenge on Day 11 proved to be a win for Manono. The catch was that the men, having gotten into fierce arguments over the previous days, wound themselves up to the point where they opted to hand the Immunity Idol over to Salani and take themselves to Tribal Council (for the first time in "Survivor" history), shocking Jeff upon their arrival.

They voted out Bill, leading to an even playing field down gender lines and, likely, contributing to the inevitable outcome of the game's grander scheme.

It was all the more complicated when a tribal switch was held on Day 12.
5. On Day 16, which castaway was removed from the game due to appendicitis?

Answer: Colton

Following the merge, Colton used his idol and status in the game to manipulate the new Manono tribe, taking Alicia under his wing and taking the offensive with a psychological edge. It came to an end, however, when he ended up being found in the forest by production, curled on his side in pain.

He was ultimately removed from the game with fears of appendicitis. Both tribes went to Tribal Council on Day 17 to discover that not only was he not returning, but he purposely took the Hidden Immunity Idol with him as a souvenir. It was determined and revealed by Jeff in a later season ("Blood vs. Water") that Colton was likely faking the appendicitis.
6. The Tikiano tribe, merged on Day 17, donned what colour buff?

Answer: Black

After Jeff gave the word on Colton's acute appendicitis, both tribes visited Tribal Council to discover that the tribal divide was, in a technical sense, no more. He asked the castaways to drop their Manono and Salani buffs-- they would be merged under new black buffs and they would be able to join each other as twelve people on the same beach (the original 'One World' beach) as six men and six women.

The day after their merge, the dozen decided on the name Tikiano for their blended tribe and enjoyed the remains of their feast. Black buffs were previously used as merge tribe colours in "Pearl Islands", "Panama", "Cook Islands", "China", "Heroes vs. Villains", and "Redemption Island".
7. Who was the only person to use a Hidden Immunity Idol to negate votes during this season?

Answer: Troyzan

With Colton taking his idol out of the game, only two idols could have been used after the merge. Kim never ended up using hers but Troyzan, who found the idol on Day 19, felt threatened enough on Day 25 to reveal he planned on using the Idol to protect himself.

It ended up being a tricky situation as the girls tried to maintain control over the game. Ultimately, Troyzan used the idol and nullified two votes against him. It was useless; the women of Tikiano stuck together and blindsided Jay.
8. This season saw the return of the Survivor Auction. Were players able to purchase immunity?

Answer: No

After a long hiatus, "One World" saw the much-anticipated return of the Survivor Auction. Castaways were given $500 each and told that they could bid in $20 increments. There could be no sharing items or pooling money. As always, the auction could stop without warning.

The vast majority of these were food items, easily causing the participants to cave to temptation-- some spent virtually their entire purses on certain dishes. This auction, interestingly, featured a $40 shower (with shampoo, fresh water, a toothbrush, and toothpaste) and $500 letters from home for Alicia and Tarzan. Troyzan bought an advantage for the next Immunity Challenge for $420; he would win it, but get voted out the next Tribal Council.
9. For the first time in "Survivor" history, the final five castaways in the game were all women.

Answer: True

Although other seasons have seen final three lineups of all women or all men, this was the first season to see such a gender-divided final five. "Survivor: Vanuatu", "Survivor: Guatemala", and "Survivor: Micronesia" were all close, but each of their final fives had one male tribe member. One might attribute the division to strong tribal ties by the time the tribal swap and merge occurred; while the men opted to give up immunity and lose the numbers, the women stayed a unified force and managed to maintain alliances (partly due to luck) at the tribal switch.
10. Who was the winner of "Survivor: One World"?

Answer: Kim

After a series of final challenges in the last few days of the competition, the tribe was whittled down to a final three of Kim, Sabrina, and Chelsea, and on Day 39, they sat in front of the nine-person jury, all of whom joined at the merge, and pled their case for the million dollar prize. Ultimately, the jury believed that Kim dominated the social game, the strategic game, and the physical challenges (claiming the Immunity Necklace four times), all without using her Hidden Immunity Idol.

She took seven of the votes and Sabrina took two (while Chelsea took none) to become the Sole Survivor.
