Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of the game, during a unique tribal ceremony, the castaways discovered that they would be divided by which of these?

Answer: Gender

Sailing into the islands of Vanuatu on a sailboat, the eighteen castaways of this season came face to face with the island natives on the very first day. Upon his arrival, Jeff informed the Survivors that they would need to join in a ritual to be welcomed to the island.

This involved the splitting of men and women right from the get-go; the teams were thus decided by the tribal chief. The men became Lopevi and donned red buffs while the women became the Yasur tribe and wore yellow. At the end of Day 1, they needed to find their beaches in the rain and without a map...in the dark.
2. To the surprise of many tribe members, which castaway was the first in "Survivor" history to be an amputee?

Answer: Chad

Within the first three days of the game, Lopevi tribe member Chad revealed that he had lost a foot to cancer and had been outfitted with a prosthetic. This was not the first time such a surprise was presented in the game; in "Survivor: Amazon", Christy revealed to the womens' tribe that she was deaf. Chad didn't let his tribe know that he had a condition until after he had proven himself as a strong contributor.

The women of Yasur discovered the handicap at the first Immunity Challenge (which they won). Chad continued in the game until after the merge.
3. On Day 7, teams competed for which of these in the challenges?

Answer: Individual immunity

Arriving at the challenge beach on Day 7, Lopevi and Yasur were both shocked to discover that both teams would be competing in individual challenges that day to win individual immunity. One member of each tribe would be safe from elimination at impromptu Tribal Council ceremonies.

This process began with a Reward Challenge (won by Lopevi) leading the winners to compete for individual immunity. John K. won this second challenge and was given the opportunity to give immunity to a member of Yasur. Ami received this one.
4. On Day 8, the Yasur tribe won a Reward Challenge and received the services of a local native. What was his name?

Answer: Dah

Winning a memory matching Reward Challenge on Day 8, their third of four Reward Challenge wins, Yasur received the services and guidance of a local Vanuatu tribesman for twenty-four hours. Arriving at Yasur's beach, Dah went straight to work introducing the women to the nearby edibles (including coconuts and sugar cane) before departing the following morning.

Their resulting surge of energy and full stomachs won their next Immunity Challenge and gave the women the advantage in the upcoming tribal switch.
5. During the tribe reshuffling on Day 11, how many members did Yasur end up with?

Answer: Seven

Shortly before an earthshaking quake in the Vanuatu islands, the tribes were visited by local natives and asked to choose a chief from each group. The men of Lopevi chose Lea to lead and the women of Yasur chose Scout. Arriving at a beach on Day 11, the two chiefs were separated from their groups and everyone else was told to drop their buffs. Scout needed to split the tribes to recreate new groups while Lea needed to choose who would lead which tribe; one woman would be the odd person out. It was Lisa and she got to choose. Immediately after this, the new Lopevi tribe won four consecutive challenges.
6. What tribe name did the castaways take on during the merge on Day 20?

Answer: Alinta

Teams arrived at their Immunity Challenge on Day 20 to discover that Yasur had accidentally broken the team idol. Alas, there was no problem with that-- teams needed to drop their buffs anyways since it was the merge. After the challenge (won by Lea), the new team returned to Lopevi Beach and, upon heading to their first Tribal Council, they discovered that the old womens' voting alliance was stronger than ever.

The new tribe, Alinta, took their name from a term meaning 'people of the fire'...which is apt considering the game.
7. How many men arrived at the merge?

Answer: Four

On Day 20, when the teams finally joined together, it was clear that the women outnumbered the men 6-4 due to previous Tribal Council ceremonies with shuffled tribes. When it came time to vote out members of the newly-merged tribe, the women of the original Yasur tribe stayed true to each other and started to systematically vote the men out of the game.

By the time the final seven remained, only one male tribe member was left standing. This season featured the strongest gender-divided game thus far.
8. For tree mail on Day 24, the merged tribe received which animal?

Answer: Pig

Arriving at their tree mail before the Immunity Challenge on Day 24, the Alinta tribe ended up receiving a single leashed pig which struggled to escape their grasp as they carried it back to camp. Their one warning: they would not be able to eat the pig.

The pig, being a symbol of wealth in Vanuatu culture, would need to be cleaned and kept safe from the elements in their camp so that they would be able to benefit from it later on in the game. The pig was used by the tribe in an Reward Challenge on Day 25.
9. Who of the following won the car during the penultimate Reward Challenge?

Answer: Eliza

On Day 31, the final six competed in the car challenge, a Reward Challenge in which they needed to race into the water and across a balancing obstacle course to collect flags. The prize this time around was the Pontiac G6. The first-place winner of the task won the vehicle while the second and third place tribe members ended up coming along for a reward-- a visit to a Vanuatu resort with complimentary meals and a warm shower. Eliza won the car while Ami and Chris came along for the trip.

As is typical, the car winner didn't win the million. Curse? Anyone?
10. Who was the Sole Survivor and winner of "Survivor: Vanuatu"?

Answer: Chris

Against all odds, Chris ended up breaking through a six-woman-strong alliance to become, literally, the last man standing and the Sole Survivor of "Survivor: Vanuatu". Bringing Twila to the final two, Chris won the million dollar prize with a vote of five to two.

He received his votes from Eliza, Julie, Leann, Chad, and Lea while Twila's came from Scout and Ami. Jury members Eliza and Ami would return in a couple of years to battle for the million dollars in "Survivor: Micronesia".
