Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Although said by the title character's brother, one word should tell you this show that I loved to watch. What show had the catchphrase, "Whoa!"?

Answer: "Blossom"

"Blossom", starring Mayim Bialik as the title character, aired from 1990-1995. Her brother Joey, played by Joey Lawrence, said, "Whoa!" all the time. He was the reason why many teenage girls, including myself, watched the show in the 1990s. Blossom's best friend, the fast-talking Six, was played by Jenna Von Oy. According to Six, her father said she was named Six because "that's how many beers it took." Blossom's other brother, Tony, an addict in recovery for most of the show (he occasionally fell off the wagon) was played by Michael Stoyanov.

Her father, a musician, was played by Ted Wass.
2. Another favorite was "Boy Meets World". What was the name of Cory's best friend?

Answer: Shawn

Ben Savage played Cory Matthews. He is the younger brother of Fred Savage from "The Wonder Years". Rider Strong played his best friend Shawn Hunter. Minkus on the show was a nerdy character who once had to go to the nurse because he got an answer wrong and couldn't deal with it.

He was played by Lee Norris. Eric was Cory's older brother and was played by Will Friedle. "Boy Meets World" started when Cory was in the 6th grade. His teacher, Mr. Feeny was played by William Daniels. Mr. Feeny was Cory's teacher in 6th grade, later a principal in Cory's school, and afterwards a college professor.

He was also the Matthews' neighbor. The show ran from 1993 to 2000. By the time it ended, Cory had married his school friend, later girlfriend, and fiancée, Topanga Lawrence, who was played by Danielle Fishel.
3. This show was a spin-off of "The Cosby Show" originally meant to star Lisa Bonet, who played Denise Huxtable. What was it called?

Answer: "A Different World"

"A Different World" ran from 1987 to 1993. Lisa Bonet was only in the first season of the series. Jasmine Guy, who played Whitley Gilbert-Wayne, became the star after she left. Whitley eventually dated and married Dwayne Wayne, played by Kadeem Hardison. Dwayne's best friend was Ron Johnson, played by Darryl M. Bell.

The show was about their lives as college students at the fictional college Hillman. Dwayne made the flip-up sunglasses famous.
4. "In West Philadelphia, born and raised. On the playground is where I spent most of my days." Which show starring Will Smith as the title character had these lyrics in its theme song?

Answer: "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air"

Will Smith played Will Smith on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air". Like his character, Will Smith (actor) was also born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. Will (character) moved to Bel Air to live with his Uncle Phil and Aunt Viv (played by James Avery and Janet Louise Hubert, then later, Daphne Maxwell Reid, respectively).

They had three children at the start of the show. Hilary, the oldest, was an airhead played by Karyn Parsons. Their then-only son, Carlton, played by Alfonso Riberio, made the "Carlton Dance" famous.

The youngest daughter Ashley who looked up to Will, especially when he first arrived, was played by Tatyana Ali. In the third season, they had another son named Nicky who was played by Ross Bagley starting with season five. They were a wealthy family and had a butler named Geoffrey, played by Joseph Marcell. Will called him "G." DJ Jazzy Jeff played Jeff, Will's best friend. Before the show, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Will Smith had a hip-hop duo group.
5. I used to watch "Happy Days" with my parents growing up when it was on re-runs. What were the names of the three Cunningham children?

Answer: Chuck, Richie and Joanie

"Happy Days" ran from 1974 to 1984 and starred Ron Howard as Ritchie Cunningham. Gavan O'Herlihy played his older brother Chuck Cunningham in the first season. He played basketball and went to college and soon was eliminated from the family. Richie's younger sister was played by Erin Moran. Arthur Fonzarelli, aka "The Fonz," was played by Henry Winkler.

Initially, he was a minor character, but because the fans liked him so much, he became one of the main characters. Richie's parents, Howard and Marion, were played by Tom Bosley and Marion Ross.

The show started with Richie in high school and later college. However, Ron Howard's directing career took off, and he was eventually written off the show as his character joined the United States Army.
6. Brandon and Brenda Walsh were from Minnesota. What zipcode did their family move to?

Answer: 90210

"Beverly Hills, 90210" starred Jason Priestley as Brandon and Shannen Doherty as Brenda. In the pilot, their family had moved from Minnesota to Beverly Hills, California. The twins attended West Beverly High School. Other cast members included Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Tori Spelling, Brian Austin Green, and Luke Perry.
7. Neil Patrick Harris played a 16-year-old genius who was a doctor. What was this show called?

Answer: "Doogie Howser, M.D."

NPH played the title character in the show, which ran from 1989 to 1993. His best friend was Vinnie, played by Max Casella. Since the show's end, some actors have had a promising career on Broadway, movies, and television. Casella was in "The Lion King" at one point as Timon.

He also was in a revival of "The Music Man" as Marcellus Washburn. NPH originated the role of Hedwig in "Hedwig and the Angry Inch".
8. In 2009, a show debuted in which a school choir was trying to get to sectionals. Mr. Schuester, a Spanish teacher, was their choir director. What show was this?

Answer: Glee

"Glee" featured Matthew Morrison as Mr. Shue (as they called him), Lea Michele as Rachel Berry, Cory Monteith as Finn Hudson, Chris Colfer as Kurt Hummel, Amber Riley as Mercedes Jones, and several others. On some episodes, they paid tribute to a particular artist such as Michael Jackson or Britney Spears. One of my favorite things about this show is that Idina Menzel (as Shelby Corcoran) was a regular guest star.
9. "The Secret Life of an American Teenager" was about Amy Jurgens, who got pregnant while in high school. Who was the father?

Answer: Ricky

Shailene Woodley played Amy. Ricky, the father of the baby, was played by Daren Kagasoff. Amy's sometimes boyfriend (and the guy she dated while pregnant) was played by Ken Baumann. John was Amy and Ricky's baby. I liked this show because Amy kept the baby, and it was great to see how she had to juggle everything.
10. In 2011 "Switched at Birth" premiered. This show used both English and what other language?

Answer: American Sign Language

Daphne Vazquez and Bay Kennish were switched at birth. Bay always felt like she was not like the rest of her family and learned that she was not their child, as there was a mix-up in the hospital. Like her biological mother, Regina (Constance Marie), she was into art. Bay's step-sister, Daphne (Katie Leclerc), was Deaf.

When the families learned that Bay and Daphne were switched at birth, Daphne and Regina moved into the guest house at the Kennishes' house so the biological parents could get to know their biological daughters. Over time, they all became family (this is why I said Daphne was Bay's step-sister). "Switched at Birth" was the first show to have regular cast members who were Deaf and used ASL by itself in many scenes.
