Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 5.1 "Creatures of the Night"- A person from Scott's past appeared in the season five premier. He helped Scott face the power sucker Parrish had freed from inside a wall. What was this person's name?

Answer: Theo

The episode started in the show's present day. Lydia was locked inside Eichen House, desperate to escape. It cut back to the past, just before the start of senior year. The gang was on its way to the high school to attend a Senior Scribe event. Parrish responded to a noise complaint that led to him helping something escape from the wall of a house. That creature appeared to be a wolf. He left Parrish alive, but badly injured, and went after Scott. He was going to suck out Scott's Alpha power, and tried to do so. In the midst of the fight, another wolf appeared to help. He turned out to be Theo, a friend from the fourth grade who'd long ago left Beacon Hills. Kira had spotted him while stuck in traffic on the way home from the airport, and after the fight, Stiles looked none too happy to see him back. Scott defeated the power sucker, who was later executed by his bosses. The episode ended in the show's present as well.

The Senior Scribe was a touching moment. Derek's initials were already in the library, but we saw Stiles, Kira, Malia, Lydia, and Scott add their initials. Scott added Allison's as well.

Cody Christian played Theo. The incorrect choices are characters from the "Resident Evil" video game series.

"Wolf Watch"- Holland Roden (Lydia) and Jeff Davis (show creator) confirmed that Lydia inside Eichen House was present day, and senior year was taking place in the past. The scientists inside Eichen House were called Dread Doctors, and they had big plans for Beacon Hills.
2. 5.2 "Parasomnia"- Who noticed a signature discrepancy between a speeding ticket and a student transfer form, and brought it to the attention of Scott?

Answer: Stiles

Stiles, still ever suspicious of Theo, compared his father's signatures on an eight year old speeding ticket to the signature on a very recent student transfer form. Scott wanted to give Theo the benefit of the doubt about his story, but allowed Stiles to question him about how he'd become a wolf.

When that story seemed plausible, and Scott seemed no more suspicious than before, Stiles dug up the signature issue. The signatures did look slightly different, and Stiles pointed out all of the stylistic reasons why they did not match.

Then, he and Liam followed Theo out to the woods. That trip turned out to be innocuous as well. Scott showed up on Stiles' stakeout and asked him why he never trusted anyone. Stiles angrily yelled that it was because Scott trusted everyone.

At the end of the episode, it was shown that Theo was not a good guy. Earlier Stiles said that he remembered Theo from fourth grade, and that this guy was not Theo. I think he was right.
3. 5.3 "Dreamcatchers"- Who cut off the tail of the Kanima?

Answer: Kira

Tracy was the Kanima/chimera, but not the same kind Jackson had been. She had been made into one by science, and not by birth, bite, or scratch. In a particularly gross scene, Tracy's skin split all the way along her spinal cord and a very long reptilian tail came out. Kira, in fiery Kitsune form, seized an opportunity to slice off Tracy's tail during battle. Kelsey Asbille (Chow) played Tracy.
4. 5.4 "Condition Terminal"- Lydia was attacked by a hybrid named Lucas while at the nightclub with Malia.

Answer: False

Earlier in the day, Lucas had attacked his boyfriend. When Scott talked to the young man (Corey) at the hospital, he said Lucas had changed overnight. He'd been shy one day and extremely aggressive the next. Liam and Mason went to the nightclub together, and Lucas flirted with Mason. They began to get close, when Brett tore Lucas away before he could hurt Mason. Liam joined in on the battle just as Scott and Kira showed up. This occurred near the end at a club called Sinema. Lucas was some kind of werewolf/scorpion hybrid. Thank you, Dread Doctors. They appeared after the battle and terminated Lucas.

Eddie Ramos played Lucas, Khylin Rhambo played Mason, Cody Saintgnue plated Brett, and Michael Johnston played Corey.
5. 5.5 "A Novel Approach"- The gang learned that Dr. Valack was the author of the book "The Dread Doctors". Only Stiles and Lydia could get close to him inside Eichen House to ask questions, but what did he want in return for information?

Answer: Lydia's scream

He needed a recording of her Banshee scream, but they were reluctant to give him something with so much power. He admitted that he wrote the book and it was a true story. The Dread Doctors being in Beacon Hill was like the next chapter in the story. Waiting just outside of Valack's cell, beyond the mountain ash, were Scott and Kira.

They could not cross the ash to get near the doctor. The Dread Doctors and Theo had manipulated the gang into going to Eichen House, and Kira's Kitsune power short circuited the mystical laylines that kept out evilies like the Dread Doctors. Lydia finally gave in and recorded her scream for Valack, and the Dreads came in and took out his third eye.

This gross procedure did not kill him. When they left, he used Lydia's scream to break the glass of his cell.
6. 5.6 "Required Reading"- Who recorded Kira speaking Japanese in her sleep?

Answer: Theo

Mason did speak with Kira about languages she spoke. She told him she did not speak Japanese, nor did she speak Korean, which was her nationality of origin. But, it was Theo who made a recording. The gang had been together to try and read the "Dread Doctors" book, which was supposed to trigger any memories of them. Everyone fell asleep, except for double agent Theo.

He went to Kira and recorded her speaking in Japanese, and later told Scott he'd done so. He also told Scott that a rough translation of her words was "I am the messenger of death". Scott admitted to Theo that he wasn't sure he could trust Kira anymore and that her fox aura may be taking control of her.
7. 5.8 "Ouroboros"- According to Dr. Deaton, what was the symbol known as the ouroboros?

Answer: Snake that eats itself

It's basically the symbol of something constantly re-creating itself. Deaton and Vadim were exploring a deserted building together. Vadim told of rumors and superstition about the "men in the masks". The story was these creatures never took off their masks, and some people believed they had no faces underneath the masks. But, they wore the symbol of the snake that eats itself- the ouroboros. Behind such a symbol, they found a room of failed experiments. Vadim was killed by the Desert Wolf before they could leave.
8. 5.9 "Lies of Omission"- Who told Scott a lie about the events surrounding Donovan's death?

Answer: Theo

Double Agent Theo, as I have thought of him this season, had lied a lot. He told a confession about the "murder" of Donovan by Scott's best friend Stiles. He later told Stiles' father a tearful tale of woe. He'd already told the lie surrounding the death of his own sister, whom we later discovered died directly under his own watch. Theo accomplished what he wanted, making Scott distrust Stiles. Stiles had actually killed Donovan in self-defense, and not in the rage fueled revenge scenario described by Theo. Kira left in the previous episode to try and tame her inner fox. Also in this episode, Parrish found out he was the one stealing the chimera bodies and they were being placed at the Nemeton.

Fun fact: The audience was getting closer to finding out Stiles' first name, when in the previous episode we saw him throw away his library access card. He'd told his father it had been stolen, so he had to be rid of it. On the card was the name "M. Stilinksi".
9. "Status Asthmaticus"- In this mid-season finale, Theo told Stiles he wanted certain people in his pack. Did he included Void Stiles in that group?

Answer: Yes

Theo had set it up so Scott would be weak, Liam would be mad at him, and the super moon would cause Liam to attack Scott. Theo trapped Scott inside the library with mountain ash, and Liam found him there. Liam almost killed Scott, but Mason showed up in time and told him that Hayden had died. Liam stopped fighting and ran to be with her. Theo showed up and killed Scott. He was without a pulse for fifteen minutes, but his mother practically willed him back to life. She also used some aggressive chest compression.

Stiles couldn't help, because Theo had hidden his father. He told Stiles it was either help Scott or help his dad. This was all during his "I want Void Stiles" spiel. Others he wanted were Lydia, Malia, and Kira, along with his chimera family. Theo had weakened Scott by putting Wolfsbane in his inhaler. Scott's asthma returned this season, and while unexplained in the first half of season five, I assumed Theo caused its return. The title of this episode refers to a real condition in which asthma attacks continuously.
10. "Status Asthmaticus"- Who was with Hayden when she died?

Answer: Melissa

Melissa was there when she died, and afterward went to try and save Scott. Liam was holding Hayden after she died, but Parrish arrived and took her body from him. Theo dug his claws into Lydia to find the location of the bodies (reading her mind), and then used a giant syringe to siphon fluid from whatever the Dread Doctors had floating in that tank in their lab. This fluid was what he used to reanimate his chimera family. He told Stiles he was the first chimera, and that they couldn't all be successes. At the end of the episode, Lydia was left laying beside the Nemeton, seemingly unable to move. The Dread Doctors tore down a wall inside their lab that showed two creatures battling. They appeared to be a Hellhound and a chimera. This was like the story of 'The Wild Hunt', as Lydia talked about with Parrish. "Woden's Hunt, also known as the Wild Ride or Wild Hunt, a myth of devilish riders in the sky accompanied by black dogs. Spectral beasts whose eyes glowed with fire, a bearer of death and Guardian of the Supernatural. The black dog is also known by its more common name, the Hellhound."

"Wolf Watch"- Jeff Davis confirmed Parrish is a Hellhound. There were fewer episodes of this show for season five. Tyler Posey was an enthusiastic, though sometimes too effusive host.
