Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "The Last Chimera"- The episode showed Dr. Valack, at some point in the future, trying to get information out of Lydia. In doing so, we all finally found out the reason Theo let his sister die. What did he need from her, so that he too would be a genetic chimera?

Answer: Heart

Theo let her die in the frigid waters, and the Dread Doctors gave Theo her heart. He was then a genetic chimera, as were the others from earlier in the season. Meanwhile, Sheriff Stilinski was dying and no one could figure out why. So, Scott, Stiles, and Malia went in search of a missing kid from their list, named Noah Patrick. It was a piece of his bone inside the sheriff, which was removed by Dr. Geyer. The sheriff began recovering immediately. Mason and Liam went in search of Hayden's body, which turned out to not be a body, but a living Hayden.

Jordan Fisher played Noah, the chimera on death's door. Todd Williams played Dr. Geyer, Liam's stepfather.
2. "Damnatio Memoriae"- Who told Stiles that he needed "your heart to catch up with your head"?

Answer: His father

The sheriff realized Theo's story was actually about Stiles, and not Theo himself. Stiles had killed Donovan in self defense, and he knew that intellectually. But, in his heart, he felt like he'd murdered Donovan because he wished him dead. His father told him he needed his heart to catch up with his head.

Also in this episode, the last chimera made its presence known. According to both Theo and Gerard Argent, the creature was an old beast, resurrected by the Dread Doctors. Its only purpose was to snuff out life, whenever it came across it. It also had a connection to the Argent family. La Bete. The Beast of Gevaudan, which Allison learned was connected to her family many years earlier. Scott and Stiles decided they'd get their pack back together, one at a time. And, Lydia remained comatose at Eichen House, though she was able to astral project herself.
3. "Codominance"- Who showed up to the New Mexico desert to help save Kira from Skinwalkers?

Answer: Scott and Stiles

Kira's mom took her there, seen at the end of the previous episode "Damnatio Memoriae", to try and get control over the Kitsune inside her. The Skinwalkers informed them both that if Kira passed their test, they would be able to help her. If not, Kira would stay there and become a Skinwalker as well. Kira failed the test. She was told "you wield the sword, the fox wields you". Kira's mom changed her mind, and decided she wouldn't leave her daughter there. They began to fight off the Skinwalkers, and Scott and Stiles arrived in time to help. They'd been on their way for awhile, but Stiles' Jeep kept breaking down and/or running out of gas.

Theo told one of the chimeras, Tracey, that "Damnatio Memoriae" was written on the lockers at school in an attempt to get the beast to remember "who it was". Tracey asked him if it wasn't just another hybrid teenager like themselves. He said it was more than that, as the Dread Doctors needed a "body" to serve as a vessel for the beast to be reborn. Plenty of clues were leading to the possibility that the beast was connected to Allison Argent. At the end of the episode, Liam and Mason told Scott that Corey had revealed Theo was looking for a blind Alpha- Deucalion.
4. "The Sword and the Spirit"- Which shifter saved Deaton from the Desert Wolf and the Beast?

Answer: Malia Tate

Malia traveled to a place called Fort Jewett, which she said was in Beacon Hills, to find her birth mother, the Desert Wolf. Braeden and Theo went with her, meanwhile a comatose Lydia Martin (who's not a shifter, but a Banshee) had a vision of Malia's death. Theo betrayed Malia (no surprise there), because the Desert Wolf had something he wanted. He traded Malia for a jar of ice blue talons. It was unclear whose talons they'd been. Deaton was tied to a chair, as the Desert Wolf had been using him for information and bait. When the Beast showed up, it almost got Deaton, but Malia saved him in time. He'd saved her already, by reminding her mother she had to kill Malia during a full moon to take her power. Malia, Deaton, and Braeden got away.

Also in this episode, Meredith tried to get Lydia to learn how to focus her voice in her own way. She told Lydia that her (Meredith) way had gotten people killed. Chris Argent and his devious father Gerard were able to get Jordan to remember that he was a Hellhound. In the story, the Hellhound and Beast fight in a epic battle that destroys everyone around them. Theo's band of chimeras found Deucalion, who said all he wanted in exchange for info on the Beast was Scott's eyes on the tips of his claws.

Tyler Lockwood was a shifter in the "Vampire Diaries" universe and Josh was a shifter on "Being Human". Seth Gilliam, who played Deaton, also played Father Gabriel on "The Walking Dead".
5. "Amplification"- Deucalion told Hayden about the special talons Theo had traded for in the previous episode. Which is *not* one of the things he told her about those talons?

Answer: They opened a portal to the Dark Tower

He said they were made by the Dreads and had a certain frequency. This frequency was known by Gerard, as seen in the previous episode. He said that Theo meant to put the talons over his own, like press-on nails, and use them to siphon off the beast's powers. It wouldn't happen though, because the talons had been made by the Dreads for a certain person only, and much like the wrong organ in a transplant, they would kill Theo if he used them. These all turned out to be lies, and the talons Theo had were not the same ones made by the Dreads, the Desert Wolf had kept those for herself.

In this episode, we are more or less caught up with the future seen in glimpses from earlier season five episodes. It's time to get Lydia out of Eichen House. They use Kira to cause a brown out to reboot the computer system. A black out would lock the entire facility down, and they'd all be trapped inside. She was able to pull it off, but there was no longer a card reader to get into the place Lydia was being held. Scott and Liam tried to push the door off, but the mountain ash inside that part of the hospital weakened them. Jordan came along to help get the boys inside the asylum, and when the time came, he turned into the Hellhound and melted his way inside.
6. "Lie Ability"- When they finally got Lydia out of Eichen House and to Deaton, what substance did he say he used to fill the hole in her head?

Answer: Mistletoe

Valeck was going to use one of the Dread masks to help Lydia see who the Beast actually was, and he thought it was worth her life to get the information. But, before he could get it on her, she screamed and blew half his head off. In the end, it was Parrish (Jordan) who was able to save everyone from a potentially fatal Banshee scream when he fold himself over her as she let loose. The hole in her head amplified her abilities, and needed to be sealed before it killed her. Deaton pumped in what he said was mistletoe and she returned to normal. Theo ended up with the Dread mask (for lack of a better term) at the end.

Also, we found out that the original Beast was a male killer from the late 1700s. Once the Beast remembers being that particular human male, the teenager it was housed inside would cease to exist. They had to stop that from happening.
7. "A Credible Threat"- Coach Finstock had been in rehab for seven months, so Scott went there and talked him into getting out. Scott wanted the coach to forfeit a charity lacrosse game. Did Coach Finstock forfeit that game?

Answer: No

The charity game was between Beacon Hills High and Devenford Prep. They had a feeling that the Dread Doctors would send the Beast out on a kill mission by using the news van frequencies on the scene. So, plan A was to get the coach to leave Stepping Stones rehab and forfeit the game. When he got to the game, he decided not to forfeit. Their back up plan was for Malia to sabotage the vans and prevent the news channels from broadcasting. She was busy accomplishing that task when her mother, the Desert Wolf, showed up. The signal was broadcast and the Beast transformed. We were not shown the identity of the Beast in this episode. Liam took off toward the school buses, and the Beast emerged from over the top of one. Mason and Corey were on the Devenford Prep bus at the time, trying to find a size ten shoe with Parrish's blood on it. This was when I knew for sure Mason was the Beast.

Also in this episode, Jordan Parrish allowed the Argents to super cool his body so the Hellhound could emerge, but not hurt anyone or get away. When the creature appeared, it told Lydia Jordan Parrish died on the battlefield, and that was when it was born. It said that there was no Jordan Parrish anymore.

Orny Adams played Coach Finstock.
8. "Maid of Gevaudan"- How was Marie-Jeanne Valet, the Maid of Gevaudan, related to the Beast?

Answer: She was his sister

Crystal Reed, who first played Allison Argent, returned for scenes of the origin story of the Beast and its killer. Marie-Jeanne discovered that the Beast was her brother Sebastien. After that discovery, way back in 1700s America to be, she hunted him for three years. When she finally found him, she killed him with "no simple blade made of steel". He met his death with the same arrogance as his murderous shape shifting life, thinking everyone would remember his name. She told him, "History might remember you Sebastien, but only as a beast." She, and the people helping her, destroyed everything with Sebastien Valet's name on it, effectively erasing the man from history. Afterward, Marie-Jeanne stayed with the man who'd helped her kill the Beast, a man named Henri Argent (played by Lachlan Buchanan).

The Dread Doctors wanted the Beast to remember that man, Sebastien, so the kind-hearted teenager within would disappear forever. And, Mason was revealed to be the Beast.

Gilles Marini played Sebastien. He's also been on "Switched at Birth" and "Devious Maids". On the latter, he also played a character named Sebastien.
9. "The Beast of Beacon Hills"- Who did Theo kill in order to take his power and be able to wear the Dread mask?

Answer: Josh

After Josh refused to put on the mask (in order to identify the Beast), Deucalion revealed to them that he'd been free to leave anytime he wanted. He said it was a show of trust. He explained to Theo that in order to gain power you needed to use pain, power, and life. Theo understood that meant he needed to kill Josh, take his electricity related power, and wear the mask himself. He did so, and later told Scott and Liam that it was not Mason he saw while he was wearing the mask. Liam took that to mean that maybe Mason was a lost cause. Mason was taken by the Dread Doctors at the start of the episode, despite Corey trying to keep him unseen.

Henry Zaga played Josh Diaz.
10. "The Beast of Beacon Hills"- Near the end of this episode, the Dread Doctors announced Mason a chimeric success.

Answer: True

They told Theo he was only partly successful. His entitlement and narcissism were a success, but it was Theo who taught them the true definition of success. Turning something innocent and good into pure evil, that was their success. After Mason pulled out the tube from his neck, he was able to change into the Beast without any frequency to aid him. He made quick work of dispatching most of the Dreads, before exiting the building. Outside, he was met by Parrish (the Hellhound) and a fight began. When the Beast shifted back into human form, he was no longer Mason, but Sebastien Valet once more.

Also, Chris and Gerard Argent debated over telling Scott about one last trick up their sleeves (Scott biting the Beast), as they looked for the weapon that would kill Sebastien one more time. Kira went back to the desert to get help from the Skinwalkers. She needed them to help her put her sword back together, and she promised she could learn to control the fox. They said they'd help her, but as before, it would come with a big price.
11. "Apotheosis"- When Sebastien Valet took the Dread mask off of the Dread Doctor outside of the Vet clinic, we found out the Doctor's identity. Who was it?

Answer: Marcel from the 1700s

Sebastien: "Marcel, if this is what immortality looks like, I think you might have been misled."

We first met Marcel in "Maid of Gevaudan". Marcel was the man who gave Marie-Jeanne the key to the cellar where she'd find what she was looking for. He tried to take the blame for being the Beast, but she realized it before she killed him, and let him live.

Marcel was played Daniel Bonjour in "Maid of Gevaudan", who also played Aiden on "The Walking Dead".
12. "Apotheosis"- The pike used to kill Sebastien Valet had been attached to a cane handle. Who was the person in possession of it at the start of the episode?

Answer: Gerard

Gerard admitted to Chris that he had figured out his cane handle was attached to the pike Marie-Jeanne used to kill her brother Sebastien. It had to have been passed down from Marie-Jeanne and Henri Argent through the years that separated them from the return of the Beast. That was the one question Sebastien had for Marcel when he took the Dread mask off of him. Marcel revealed that the Argents had possession of the pike.
13. "Apotheosis"- The solution to saving Mason was Lydia using her Banshee voice to say his name.

Answer: True

Since Mason was a generic chimera, having absorbed his own twin in utero, Deaton thought he was probably still somewhere inside Sebastien. The audience saw that for themselves when Sebastien went into Mason's memory to figure out how to start the car. So, they continued to talk it out and realized that a Banshee saying the werewolf's name to it, in werewolf form, would turn it back into human form. Sebastien did not know this, but did inflict damage to her vocal cords during his attack on the police station. Melissa injected her cords with a anti-inflammatory drug to help her be able to speak again.

Lydia was able to scream Mason's name while the Beast was attacking, and Mason emerged from inside him. I assume Mason's absorbed twin was a fraternal twin, otherwise wouldn't they have had the exact same DNA?
14. "Apotheosis"- Was Theo able to take the Beast's power?

Answer: No

Deucalion had lied to Theo. He'd also been working with Scott the whole time. After Theo tried to take the Beast's power, Scott and Deucalion appeared and told him how they'd played him. Then, Deucalion (who was not blind after all) broke Theo's neck. Gerard came around the corner, and shot Deucalion, and then Chris revealed that he and Scott had been double crossing Gerard the entire time as well. Chris told his father that he knew bringing him back would never be about saving lives.

Theo: "You broke my neck."
Deucalion: "Good luck with that." My thoughts exactly.
15. "Apotheosis"- In this season five finale, which of these was *not* something shown in the episode's wrap up at the end?

Answer: Scott's mom marrying Stiles' dad

Before the wrap up at the end, Mason was saved by Lydia and Theo was sent away by Kira. The Beast and Hellhound fought, and Scott threw the pike into the Beast and it disappeared.

Season five wrapped up to the song "Fight 'Til The End" by Jack Savoretti. We saw Hayden severely injured, so she agreed to take Scott's bite. It saved her. She and Liam both had yellow eyes during the full moon. Stiles realized he'd become a law enforcement officer (saving lives was what he enjoyed), Malia and Lydia walked into school together, Kira honored her promise and returned to the Skinwalkers, Stiles told Lydia about how Allison had saved Scott from the Beast, Scott went to the shelf where they'd all put their initials in the library, and finally we saw a set of muddy footprints down in the Dread laboratory. Whose were they? Could Allison be back?

It felt very much like a series finale instead of just a season finale, but while the end credits rolled we were assured "new season coming soon".
