Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 7, teams departed from Morocco and flew to what Italian city?

Answer: Palermo

Heading into Leg 7, teams departed from their halfway point at the Casbah d'If in Marrakesh and boarded planes taking them to the Mediterranean island of Sicily, specifically to the Italian city of Palermo. Upon landing, the teams needed to take a taxi to the Teatro di Verdura where they would claim one of three departure times leaving twenty minutes apart and have the chance to enjoy an overnight stay in the city. Of course, in the morning, teams were handed their next clues bright and early.
2. In the Road Block in Leg 7, team members raced around Mount Pellegrino in which of the following?

Answer: Go karts

Leaving their overnight rests at the Teatro di Verdura, teams were told to climb to the Villa Costanza on Mount Pellegrino where they would be able to locate the next clue box and their Road Block task. For this one, the team members chosen were told to suit up and ride in go-karts around the mountain, making a total course time of four minutes and seven seconds. If they failed to reach the end in time, they would need to start the whole thing over again, otherwise they would drive off in restored vehicles to meet with their partners. Jim, Kym, Brooke, Maya, Adam, and Te Jay completed this task.
3. More than half of the teams in Leg 7 (in Italy) chose to complete a fresco in the 'Painters' Detour task.

Answer: True

After the Road Block, team members reunited at the Antico Stabilimento Balneare in Palermo where they were able to open their Detour clue. This leg of the race, only four teams were allowed to take part in the 'Painters' Detour task, sending them to the Tonnara Florio to lay on their backs and properly restore a fresco painting on the ceiling high above. Kym and Alli, Misti and Jim, Adam and Bethany, and Tim and Te Jay completed this painstaking task, forcing the other two teams to complete the alternate option.
4. How many costumes did teams need to memorize in the 'Posers' Detour task in Italy in Leg 7?

Answer: Ten

Teams unable to complete the 'Painters' Detour task instead needed to make their way to Teatro Politeama Garibaldi where they were tasked with watching ten opera singers perform arias from famous works. Then, they needed to properly identify their costumes in another room from memory (and in order) to receive their next clue. Amy and Maya and Robbie and Brooke ended up working together to finish this task, ending much quicker than they would have with 'Painters'.
5. Which team was last to arrive at the seventh Pit Stop of the race in Italy?

Answer: Tim and Te Jay

Following the Detour, teams were told to proceed by taxi to their seventh Pit Stop, the Villa Niscemi in Palermo, which also happened to be the three hundredth Pit Stop of the U.S. "Amazing Race". Upon landing on the mat just ahead of Kym and Alli, Misti and Jim took their fourth win of the race, this time earning themselves a trip to Jamaica courtesy of Travelocity.

The last team to arrive, Tim and Te Jay, were saved with a non-elimination leg, but would be required to complete a Speed Bump.
6. In Malta in Leg 8, was there a Road Block task?

Answer: Yes

Beginning Leg 8, teams too a ferry from Palermo, Italy to the city of Valetta, Malta where they were told to taxi to the Bridge Bar. Upon arriving, the team members needed to balance a tray on their hand and carry one liqueur and two glasses up the Triq Sant' Orsla to the Knights of Malta.

After both team members completed thit ask, they could head to the Zurrieq Valley Sea Inlet to collect a morning departure time for the Road Block task, requiring that one member of each team (Alli, Misti, Tim, Bethany, Amy, and Robbie) rappel into the Blue Grotto in Qrendi, then swim to their clue inside.
7. The team completing the Speed Bump task in Malta in Leg 8 needed to paint which of the following?

Answer: Shield

After the Road Block was completed, teams needed to find a clue box hiding for them in the small side-street of Triq Antika in Birgu, Malta. Here, Tim and Te Jay found their Speed Bump task, required since they placed last in the previous leg of the race. For this extra task, they needed to visit the nearby Saint Lawrence's Church and both members needed to use a stencil to paint the Maltese Cross onto a shield.

When this was done, they resumed the race.
8. What was unique about the Detour found in Malta in Leg 8?

Answer: Teams were given task names, but no info about them

Arriving at the Monastery of Saint Scholastica in Birgu, teams located a clue box containing the sparsest Detour info ever given on the race. In this 'Blind Detour', teams needed to choose between 'Flag' and 'Shine' without any real info to go by except for the names of the tasks and directions pointing them the correct path.

The teams only knew the true nature of what was ahead of them when they arrived at their specific stations.
9. What team was able to use the Express Pass to skip a task in Malta in Leg 8?

Answer: Adam and Bethany

The Detour in Leg 8 forced teams to choose between 'Flag' and 'Shine'. In 'Flag', teams visited Birgu Harbour to play Gostra in which teams took turns racing along greased poles to collect flags suspended above the water. One team member needed to get a nearer yellow flag and the other had to get the farther red one. None of the teams completed this task, though Adam and Bethany used their Express Pass to skip it (it being their last opportunity to use the tool).

In 'Shine', teams instead went to the Gate of Provence to shine plate armor. All five other teams did this lengthier task.
10. Which team was eliminated in Malta in Leg 8?

Answer: Tim and Te Jay

After the Detour, teams were told to race by taxi to Fort Manoel. Here, Adam and Bethany won their second leg of the race by using the Express Pass they won in Leg 2. Both, as a result, ended up earning $10,000 cash for use after the race. After taking too long attempting to complete the 'Flag' Detour task in Birgu, it was Tim and Te Jay who were unable to recover from their Speed Bump and lower placing.

As such they were eliminated from the race in sixth place, leaving five teams.
