Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which major U.S. city did teams begin the twenty-fifth "Amazing Race"?

Answer: New York City

Heading back to the place where it all started, eleven all-new teams headed to New York City to commence a race around the world for one million dollars. In the middle of the night, the teams started in front of a crowd of "Amazing Race" fans (and former racers) in Times Square, opening their first clues on the bleachers in the middle of the destination.

Here, they were instructed to head by taxi to the first-ever "Amazing Race" finish line, the Unisphere at Flushing Meadows Park. Of course, the crowd was willing to lend this info.
2. To which Caribbean location did teams travel during the first leg of the race?

Answer: U.S. Virgin Islands

Reaching the Unisphere in the middle of the night, teams were told to make their way to JFK Airport to catch one of two predetermined flights heading to the capital city of the U.S. Virgin Islands, Charlotte Amalie (which was visited for the first time). Five teams made it on the first flight while six took the subsequent one. Upon their arrival, the teams needed to take taxis to the city's Vendor's Plaza where they would be able to sign up for one of six charters heading out twenty minutes apart. Only two teams could join the same charter.
3. Teams were forced to sign up for charter times on what mode of transportation in Leg 1?

Answer: Seaplane

After signing up for their charter flights in Charlotte Amelie, teams were dropped off at a mystery destination-- Lovango Cay-- where they found their first international clue box of the race. Here, all of the teams were told to hop into a boat and take a trip to Carval Rock where they would need to go rock climbing from one end to the other and take a leap into the water to find a message in a bottle.

The bottle would contain their next clue sending them back to Lovango Cay and a ship known as Blackbeard's Revenge where Blackbeard himself would hand over the next task.
4. During the race's first Road Block (in Leg 1), team members had to utilize which of the following?

Answer: Liquid compass

Reaching Blackbeard's Revenge, teams were given the first Road Block of the race, requiring that one team member complete the task. For this one, both team members pulled themselves to shore and the chosen member needed to locate a specific landmark on the beach. From there, they needed to use specific degrees and a liquid compass to determine the exact location of a buried treasure chest.

When unearthed, they would be able to find their next clue. This task was worked at by Tim, Adam, Alli, Jim, Dennis, Keith, Shelley, Amy, Lisa, Scott, and Robbie.
5. Which team was eliminated from the race in the first leg (and after taking a four hour time penalty)?

Answer: Lisa and Michelle

After the Road Block, teams were told to head back to Charlotte Amalie and take a taxi to their first Pit Stop, Fort Christian. Here, after forging ahead at the Road Block, Misti and Jim ended up arriving first and taking with them the powerful new prize known as 'The Save'.

This would spare them from elimination should they come in last in any of the first nine legs of the race. In the end, three teams ended up taking four-hour penalties, dropping out of the Road Block and racing out to the Pit Stop.

While Keith and Whitney and Michael and Scott stayed ahead, Lisa and Michelle ended up arriving last and finding themselves eliminated.
6. In Leg 2, teams were told to fly to the UK. Did they fly to London?

Answer: Yes

At the start of Leg 2, teams left Fort Christian with the instruction to head to the airport in Charlotte Amalie. There, teams would be split onto one of two flights arriving one hour and twenty minutes apart in London, England. Six teams made the first flight while only four made the second. Upon their arrival, teams had to take a traditional London cab to the Tower Bridge whereupon they would be handed their Detour instructions by a Pearly King and Queen.
7. In the Detour in Leg 2 (in the UK), teams either flipped pancakes or worked with which of the following people?

Answer: The Queen's Guard

Reaching the Tower Bridge, teams received their first Detour task of the race, a choice between 'About Face' and 'Pancake Race'. In 'About Face', teams headed to Somerset House to dress up and participate in the Changing of the Guard. When they properly executed the steps to the satisfaction of their commander, they could carry on.

In 'Pancake Race', teams had to make pancakes in the Victoria Tower Gardens, then perform a pancake race, flipping them as they took a lap around a track in one minute fifteen seconds. Misti and Jim, Kym and Alli, Tim and Te Jay, Amy and Maya, Shelley and Nici, and Brooke and Robbie completed 'About Face'; Adam and Bethany, Keith and Whitney, Dennis and Isabelle, and Michael and Scott completed 'Pancake Race'.
8. In Leg 2, which UK university city did teams end up visiting?

Answer: Oxford

Following the Detour, teams were instructed to make their way to London's famous Paddington Station to catch the first train taking them to Oxford, England . Upon their arrival, they needed to make their way to a boating service on the River Cherwell, specifically under Magdalen Bridge.

There, they found their next active Route Marker task where both members had to stand on a punting boat and, with one punting from the Cambridge end and the other waving a Union Jack on the Oxford end, they needed to complete a course around an island. If they did this right they got their next clue.
9. Which team won the Express Pass during Leg 2?

Answer: Adam and Bethany

After a punting excursion, teams were told to race on foot to Christ Church College where both team members would be given a bowler hat and an umbrella. They would be able to tip their bowlers to find their next destination. Inside the umbrellas, however, were instructions to take them to the Express Pass. If they so chose, they could head to the Bear Inn in Oxford to collect it.

This was, of course, at their own discretions since it could compromise their position in the race. Adam and Bethany ended up taking the Express Pass while maintaining their lead.
10. Which team was eliminated from the race in Leg 2?

Answer: Dennis and Isabelle

After collecting their exquisitely-British accessories, teams were told to make their way to the next Pit Stop, Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, where Phil would be waiting for them with a Churchill impersonator.

Here, Adam and Bethany stepped on the mat in first place, winning a trip for two to Sweden courtesy of Travelocity. They also had the Express Pass in their possession. In the end, Dennis and Isabelle were unable to successfully brave the currents while punting and they fell back to last place.

They ended up being eliminated upon their arrival leaving only nine teams.
