The Flint Street Nativity Trivia Quiz

"The Flint Street Nativity" was set in a primary school the night of the nativity play. The children's antics were followed on and off stage. There was a bit of a twist though, with all the children played by adult actors. Enjoy and good luck!

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When was "The Flint Street Nativity" TV movie released?

Answer: 1999

It was obvious by the title that this was a Christmas themed TV movie. It was released 22nd December 1999.
2. Who directed and who wrote this TV movie?

Answer: Marcus Mortimer (director) and Tim Firth (writer)

Marcus Mortimer has been known not only for directing, but producing. He directed such programmes as "Dad" (1997) and some episodes of "Jonathan Creek" (1997) and was the producer for "The Ronnie Corbett Show" (1987) and "A Word in Your Era" (1992). Tim Firth has been well known for not just writing, but film screenplays. Titles have included "Once Upon A Time in the North" (1994) and "Combat Sheep" (2001).
3. What part in the nativity play did Josie Lawrence's character play?

Answer: Mary

Josie Lawrence played the child Debbie Bennet, who was in the lead female role of Mary. Her fifteen minutes of fame were not as enjoyable as they should have been though, as there was another child who wanted to be Mary and she wasn't going to rest until she got her way.

Lawrence has been in a number of roles as a well established actress. She is known for her appearances on the British edition of "Whose Line is it Anyway?" (1988-1998) and her role in "Outside Edge" (1994-1996).
4. Which actor portrayed the child, Warren Pipe, playing Joseph?

Answer: Jason Hughes

Jason Hughes played Joseph who always had messy hair and decided to change baby Jesus' name to Collin, after his new little brother. Hughes has also been in "Casualty" (1996-2002) and "Mine All Mine" (2004).
5. This man, who has been known to behave badly, played a wise man, Adrian Atherton, who had a bit of a problem. Who is the actor and what problem did he have?

Answer: Neil Morrissey - He had a lisp and was mocked when he said frankincense

Poor Adrian was given frankincense to give to the baby Jesus and unfortunately he had a lisp. When the other children heard him, they made fun of him. When he got on stage, he decided to be brave and deliver his present, but instead of saying frankincense, he offered more myrrh.

Neil Morrissey found fame in "Men Behaving Badly" (1992-1999) and was the voice of Bob in the children's animation "Bob the Builder" (1999).
6. What was the name of the girl, and her role in the nativity, who tried to steal the part of Mary, and who played her (in that order)?

Answer: Jaye Dackers - Angel Gabriel - Dervla Kirwan

Jaye Dackers believed she was the prettiest girl and so she deserved to be Mary more than the other girl. She ended up going on stage as Mary and getting into a lot of trouble with the teacher!

Dervla Kirwan, as well as playing spoilt children in school plays, has also been in "Ballykissangel" (1996-1998) and "Goodnight Sweetheart" (1993-1996).
7. The donkey had his face covered for most of the play, wearing a cardboard donkey head. However, we do see who played him. Who was the actor who played him (he has been known to be on stage wearing much less!) and what happened when he was on stage?

Answer: Mark Addy - He wet himself

We only saw who played the donkey near the end of the movie, because he liked to wear the head all the time.

Mark Addy is famed for his role in "The Full Monty" (1997) and his other TV accomplishments in "The Thin Blue Line" (1996) and "Band of Gold" (1995).
8. The narrator was Tim Moyle played by Stephen Tompkinson. Why did he start crying on stage toward the end of the nativity?

Answer: He couldn't see his dad and his mum was with another man.

Tim's mum and dad had split up and before he went on stage he had been telling everyone that he was making sure he knew all of his lines, by heart, so that he could impress his dad. When he finally spotted his Mum in the audience he saw that she was with another man and not his dad, and this made him start crying. After the nativity, the audience learned that Tim's dad was there, standing at the back, and he left a message for his son with one of the parents.

Tompkinson found fame in "Ballykissangel" (1996-1998), starring opposite Dervla Kirwan (Angel Gabriel from the nativity).
9. Which actresses played an angel and a wise man, who were friends whenever the Angel Gabriel would let them?

Answer: Mina Anwar (Angel) and Julia Sawalha (Wise Man)

Mina Anwar played an angel and Julia Sawalha played a wise man. They were friends with Jaye (Angel Gabriel), but Jaye was inclined to fall out with one of them and demanded that they not talk to each other. In the end, Anwar and Sawalha took charge and decided to be friends and not talk to Jaye.

Anwar found fame as W.P.C Habib in "The Thin Blue Line" (1995-1996). Sawalha co-starred in the hilarious "Absolutely Fabulous" (1992-2005).
10. Which singing impersonator and comedy actress played a shepherd who was very knowledgeable about childbirth?

Answer: Jane Horrocks

Jane Horrocks found fame playing the eccentric secretary in "Absolutely Fabulous" (1992-2005). Her musical talents became apparent when she starred in the film "Little Voice" (1998).

She was one of the shepherds in "The Flint Street Nativity" (1999) and a farmer's daughter therefore, she had quite a knowledge of birth and didn't mind telling her class mates the details.
