The Governor's real name is Philip Blake, though his people call him "The Governor" as a nickname. He briefly goes by the alias of Brian Heriot when he encounters Tara Chambler and her family. The Governor is played by actor David Morrisey.

Though a mere middle manager in his former life, after the Outbreak, Philip Blake discovered Woodbury, which had been abandoned by its former inhabitants. He and some other survivors cleared the town and built fortified walls. Philip rose to power there and built his own inner circle of men.

Rowan is shown sleeping with the Governor in season 3, episode 3, "Walk with Me." She is a member of the Woodbury army, and it is presumed the Governor kills her with the rest of the army when they refuse to continue their assault on the prison. Andrea gets together with the Governor in season 3, after refusing to leave Woodbury with Michonne, who is suspicious of the Governor. Lilly Chambler is Tara's sister. Lilly and the Governor start an affair in season 4, episode 6, "Live Bait."

The Governor has kept his transformed daughter Penny Blake alive and keeps her locked in a room in his apartment. He is apparently hoping for a cure, and he even interacts with her on a regular basis, including brushing her hair. Because she is undead and rotting, however, when he brushes her hair, some of her scalp comes off.

Answer: Michonne stabs him in the eye with a shard of glass

In season 3, episode 8, "Made to Suffer," when the Governor realizes Michonne has killed his zombified daughter, he attacks her in a rage. The fish tank in which he keeps zombified heads shatters during the struggle. Michonne grabs a shard of glass to defend herself and stabs his eye with it.

This enables her to escape, and the Governor is then seen with his trademark eyepatch from then on out.

Milton Mamet has known the Governor since the very start of the Outbreak, perhaps before Woodbury, and the Governor tells him, "I consider you my friend." Milton does research on the walkers in an attempt to find the humanity within them and perhaps one day cure them.

But over time, he grows wary of the Governor and his methods. He tells Andrea the Governor plans to kidnap and torture Michonne and kill Rick's group. He also burns the walkers the Governor keeps in a pit and was planning to use against Rick's group.

When the Governor is planning an assault on Rick's camp at the prison, he wants the teenagers to join him, while others argue they should stay behind safe in Woodbury. He responds coolly that "Adolescence is a 20th century invention" and that anyone who can pick up a gun is capable of fighting and killing.

After the downfall of Woodbury, Martinez abandons the Governor and starts his own camp. The Governor eventually happens upon him and joins that camp, only to kill Martinez by smacking him on the head with a golf club and then feeding him to walkers. The Governor then convinces the members of Martinez's camp to attack the prison a second time. Martinez is played by Jose Pablo Cantillo.

When Daryl's brother Merle, who was for a time the Governor's right-hand man, turns on the Governor and tries to kill him, the Governor shoots him in the chest. The Governor decapitates Hershel in "Too Far Gone" as Rick is trying to make peace with him.

In "Welcome to the Tombs," the Governor stabs Milton Mamet repeatedly in the stomach and leaves him to bleed out in a locked room with Andrea so that Milton will turn and bite her.

While the Governor is in a fight with Rick and about to strangle Rick to death, Michonne stabs him through the back with her katana. She leaves him to bleed out. However, his former lover Lilly Chambler is the one who finishes him off by shooting him in the head with a handgun in season 4, episode 8, "Too Far Gone."
