Alpha, leader of The Whisperers, was not introduced until season nine of "The Walking Dead." The fifth season adapted material from issues 61 through 77 of the comic book series. Aaron was played by Ross Marquand and Father Gabriel Stokes by Seth Gilliam, and both come from the comics. Gareth, the leader of the cannibalistic crew at Terminus, is a version of the comic book character Chris, who is the leader of the cannibalistic Hunters.

In episode 4, Beth awakens in Grady Memorial Hospital. The hospital is run by members of the Atlanta police and the ruthless Lieutenant Dawn Lerner. The patients, when nursed back to health, are forced to work as orderlies and to provide other services.

Like Beth, Noah was abducted and forced to stay in Grady. He spent the start of the apocalypse in a walled community in Richmond, and consequently he has limited skills. Together, they try to escape, but only Noah gets out. Daryl and Carol later come across the young man in their search for Beth. Dr. Steven Edwards takes a liking to Beth, but he also secretly kills patients at Grady Memorial to preserve his importance. Bob Lamson is one of the cops who works for the leader, Dawn, and who develops a respect for Rick. Gorman is one of the more abusive police officers at Grady.

Answer: She explodes a propane tank

Frist Carol covers her poncho in walker guts in order to be able to approach Terminus unseen as part of a walker herd shuffling that way. Then she uses a rifle and a bottle rocket to explode a propane tank. The explosion distracts the Terminus cannibals from killing their victims and opens a section of the fence so that the walkers flood in and the Terminus people have to run out to deal with them.

Answer: He locked his parishioners out of his church and left them to die

In the third episode of season 5, "Four Walls and a Roof," Father Gabriel admits that he barricaded himself inside his church while his congregation, which was trying to get in to escape a herd of walkers, was devoured outside. He lived off of the canned food that had been collected for a canned food drive just prior to the start of the apocalypse.

Answer: Maggie, Glenn, and Tara

Rick insists that they wait for Daryl and Carol to return form their search for Beth before they head off for D.C., but Abraham can't wait any longer. He heads off to D.C. and leaves a map behind for Rick in case Ricks decides to join them later. Abraham believes Eugene is a scientist who may have a means to cure the disease that is inside everyone and turning them into walkers when they die. Maggie, Glenn, and Tara decide to join them.

However, they're blocked by a field full of walkers on their journey.

Answer: She's hit by a police car

In the sixth episode of season 5, "Consumed," Carol and Daryl study Grady Memorial Hospital from across the street. There, they also encounter Noah for a second time and learn about Beth. With the police on the way to their building, they seek to escape, but Carol ends up getting hit by a police car and taken to Grady Memorial, where Beth discovers her in an unconscious state. Dawn Lerner orders that Carol not be treated, thinking she is too close to death's door, but Beth finds a way to save her.

Answer: Trade captured police officers for them

The group manages to capture an officer, and Rick negotiates a trade for Carol and Beth. When they show up to make the trade, however, Dawn demands that they leave Noah with her in exchange for Beth. In heated reaction, Beth stabs Dawn, who then fires on Beth and kills her. Daryl, enraged, kills Dawn. In the end, they leave the hospital with a living Carol but only Beth's corpse.

Answer: Paul Monroe

The Alexandria Safe Zone is lead by former Congresswoman Deanna Monroe, who is married to a former professor of architecture, Reg. They have two sons, Spencer and Aiden. Paul Monroe is the real name of Jesus in "The Walking Dead" comic book series, though in the television series he is named Paul Rovia. Jesus is a member of The Hilltop community.

Deanna had been considering exiling Rick's group from the community and gathered with other Alexandrians to discuss it. Meanwhile, Rick dealt with some walkers accidentally let into the community and showed Deanna one of the bodies to prove to her that the community needs his help and protection.

The abusive town doctor, Pete Anderson, who is jealous of Rick, bursts into the meeting. When he tries to kill Rick, he accidentally kills Deanna's husband instead. Overcome with grief, Deanna insists Rick execute Pete, which he does.

Answer: Morgan

In season 5, the audience first sees Morgan hiking along the train tracks toward Terminus in "No Sanctuary." In "Coda," the audience sees him enter Father Gabriel's abandoned church. Finally, in "Conquer," Morgan rescues Aaron and Daryl from a car surrounded by walkers and is brought back to Alexandria. Morgan Jones is played by Lennie James.

Rick says, "People are the real threat now" to the leader of Alexandria, Deanna Monroe. In later seasons of "The Walking Dead," the theme increasingly becomes "the enemy is us." People, rather than walkers or nature, become the primary threat for several seasons. The fifth season of "The Walking Dead" won the award for Best Syndicated/Cable Television Series at the 41st Saturn Awards.

When Rick tells Carol he thinks it's safe for them to sleep in their own homes in Alexandria and tells her to "settle in," she replies with a warning: "If we get comfortable here, let our guards down, this place is going to make us weak." Carol plays the domestic woman, cooking up and serving casseroles to the community, but all along she has her eye on the armory and is ready for any threat.

Eugene has one skill - bluffing. He eventually admits he's not really a scientist, and that he's been lying so that Abraham will keep him alive. In the seventh episode of season 5, "Crossed," Tara muses, "Eugene wasn't strong, he isn't fast, he doesn't know how to use a weapon.

The truth hurts, but he's useless. He had one skill that kept him living. Are we suppose to be mad at him 'cause he used it? " Glenn replies, "Damn right."
