Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of the telepathic bug-eyed monster in "Time Heist"?

Answer: The Teller

The telepathic monster was "The Teller." It had the power to read minds, and was especially good at detecting guilt; a useful skill for the security officer at a bank. The Teller was capable of sucking people's minds dry, turning them into "soup". The creature was telepathically linked to the owner of the bank. I'd say more, but ... spoilers.
2. What special ability does Saibra have that makes her useful in a bank heist?

Answer: Shape shifter

Saibra is able to adapt herself into the physical form of anyone she touches. This proves handy when breaking into the bank, when she transforms into a bank customer. Saibra views her ability as more of a curse than a gift, as it keeps her from getting close to another person.

By the end of the episode, the Doctor helps cure her. Saibra was played by Pippa Bennett-Warner. She began acting at the age of 11, playing Nala in a London Production of "The Lion King". She graduated from the Royal Academy for Dramatic Arts, and has been working regularly in West End theater and on BBC television since 2010.
3. What crime was Psi sent to prison for?

Answer: Computer hacking

Psi stated that he was arrested for hacking. Given that he is augmented with computer components, that makes sense. Psi wiped his memory of his friends and family, to protect them when he was being interrogated. Psi hacked into the bank's computer system and was able to disable most of the vault's security protocols.
Psi was played by Jonathan Bailey, who has been acting since he was 9. He played the young Leonardo da Vinci in the CBBC series "Leonardo". Disney Channel fans might recognize him from the 2012 series "Groove High".
4. What is the last name of the security manager at the Karabraxos bank?

Answer: Delphox

Ms Delphox is the efficient, yet quite on-edge head of security. She frequently mentions the dangers of working for the Karabraxos bank, and is proven right when she is fired - which means being incinerated. Ms Delphox turns out to be a clone of Karabraxos, the owner of the bank. Keeley Hawes played Ms Delphox.

She started out in modeling before becoming an actress, working in several music videos. Her roles include Zoe Reynolds in the BBC spy drama "Spooks" (2002-2004), Alex Drake in the science fiction police drama "Ashes to Ashes" (2008-2010) and Lady Agnes in the 2012 remake of "Upstairs, Downstairs."
5. What did Saibra retrieve from the safety deposit box in "Time Heist"?

Answer: A bomb

A dimensional shift bomb, to be precise. This handy-dandy weapon shifts atoms to create a hole, and them rearranges them to make the hole disappear. The Doctor and company used it to access the internal structure of the bank.
The teleportation devices show up later in the episode. They proved useful more than once.
The memory worms, which sap a person's memory, make a return in "Time Heist". They were first seen in "The Snowmen" (2012).
6. What allows the Doctor and Clara to enter the vault of the Karabraxos bank?

Answer: Solar storm

This time the Doctor's sonic screwdriver proves useless against the bank's security measures. They have to wait for a massive solar storm to short out most of the electricity on the planet, which drops the remaining locks and opens the vault door.
The solar storm later wipes out the bank itself.
7. What did the Doctor find in safety deposit box Tech 251?

Answer: A Neophyte circuit

It was a neophyte circuit, which allows the reboot of any electronic system and the restoration of lost memory. Psi needed it to restore the memories he had deleted while in prison. The gene suppressant, which Saibra needed, was in Box ORG 339.
Karanraxos had a Faberge egg; it was one of the things she grabbed as the bank was being destroyed by the solar storm.
8. Who was the last person to have their brain scanned by the alien creature that worked for the bank in "Time Heist"?

Answer: The Doctor

Clara was the first person scanned, and she was able to block the Teller and break away. Saibra was the next one scanned, and she teleported to escape. Clara was scanned a second time, and Psi distracted the monster to allow her to escape. The Teller then scanned Psi.

The Doctor was the last to be scanned, and the creature restored his memories, so that he could complete the mission that Karabraxos had recruited the Doctor for from her deathbed. It turned out that her last wish was to free the Teller's mate, which Karabraxos had kept locked in her private vault, and help them escape the bank planet before it was destroyed.
9. The Doctor was the mysterious "Architect."

Answer: True

Naturally the Doctor was the architect. What's remarkable is the Doctor deduces it by noting that 1) He hates the architect, 2) The architect is manipulative, 3) The Architect is overbearing and 4) The Architect thinks that he is very clever. All traits the Doctor has manifested many times across his regenerations.
It takes some prodding from the Teller, but the Doctor remembers that he was recruited to save the Teller and his mate, and planned the entire bank heist. He needed to wipe his memory so that the telepathic being wouldn't discover his plans and reveal them to Karabraxos.
Best line of the episode may have been "Are you all right?" response "I'm an amnesiac robbing a bank, of course I'm not all right." Although there was the marvellous "Shutitty up, up, up!" evoking a certain spin doctor and "I was aiming for minimalism, and wound up with magician" to describe his new wardrobe.
10. Who wrote "Time Heist" along with Steven Moffat?

Answer: Stephen Thompson

"Time Heist" is Thompson's third "Doctor Who" script. He also wrote "The Curse of the Black Spot" and "Journey to the Center of the TARDIS". Thompson has also worked with Moffat and frequent "Doctor Who" writer Mark Gatiss on several episodes of "Sherlock".
Douglas MacKinnon directed "Time Heist". It is his sixth episode of "Doctor Who" and the second in season eight, after "Listen". His first "Doctor Who" was "The Sontaran Stratagem/The Poison Sky" (2008).
Ross Mullan was the guy in the Teller costume. Mullan has been a member of the Silence in "The Time of the Doctor" (2013) and was a White Walker in "Game of Thrones".
Hadyn Ellis was a psychology professor at the University of Cardiff. Much of "Time Heist" was filmed inside the university's medical research building (opened in November 2013), which was named after the late Doctor Ellis.
