Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. During the Quickfire Challenge where the chefs were divided into two teams for the relay race, Padma made an important announcement about a change to the Quickfire for the remainder of the show. What change did she announce?

Answer: The winner would no longer get immunity.

Once there were only eight chefs left, they had to team up for a relay race in the Quickfire Challenge. Padma announced that there would no longer be immunity for the remainder of the challenge; however, the winner of the Quickfire did get an important advantage for the Elimination Challenge.

In this particular episode, the winning team got to pick which person they wanted to cook for in the Wedding Wars Challenge.
2. When the chefs catered the wedding in the Wedding Wars Challenge, which chef made the bride's cake?

Answer: Stephanie

Stephanie was on the team that was catering to the bride's taste. She ended up making the wedding cake, even though she was not a pastry chef. Lisa was on the opposite team and made the groom's cake. When Stephanie's team won the challenge, the win actually went to Richard since he was a driving force behind the team's performance.

He did announce that he wanted to give the win to Stephanie because he believed she deserved it for doing such a great job with the cake.
3. Which fan favorite chef from season two came back to be the guest judge during the 'Serve and Protect' episode?

Answer: Sam Talbot

Sam came back as the guest judge and challenged chefs to make good, sexy salads in the Quickfire. This episode was all about healthy eating which hit home for Sam since he has been diabetic for years. He was born in North Carolina, but has served as an Executive Chef in New York. During the Elimination Challenge, the chefs had to make a healthy box meal for the Chicago Police Department which would be friendly to diabetics.
4. With only six chefs left, Restaurant Wars pitted Lisa, Dale, and Spike against Antonia, Stephanie, and Richard. What was the name of the restaurant opened by Dale's team?

Answer: Mai Buddha

Dale, Lisa, and Spike all had Asian backgrounds in their cooking. They decided to have an Asian-themed restaurant called 'Mai Buddha' with an Asian-inspired menu. The restaurant was decorated with many Buddhas and with very Asian-styled decorations. Dale played the role of Executive Chef, while Spike took on the front of the house and Lisa assisted Dale in the kitchen.
5. Anthony Bourdain filled in for Tom Colicchio during the Restaurant Wars Challenge because Tom had to attend a charity event. Anthony has always made very funny and interesting commentary when talking about some of the dishes. How did he describe Lisa's sticky rice with coconut?

Answer: "Baby vomit with wood chips"

The team served two desserts, one of which was a sticky rice made by Lisa. She messed it up and had to add a paste to make it sticky and it did not make a great appearance. When Anthony Bourdain was talking about it at the table in the restaurant, he described it as "baby vomit with wood chips", the wood chips being the toasted coconut.

At the Judge's Table, he stated that one of the diners at the restaurant wrote that it was like "baby food garnished with potpourri".
6. When there were only five chefs left, the chefs had to go to Allen Brothers before they went back to the Top Chef kitchen. In that Quickfire, they had to butcher their own rib eye steaks and then go back to the kitchen to cook them. Who won?

Answer: Spike

Spike's real name was Evangelos and he came to the show while he was living in New York, though he was originally from Florida. He did a good job of butchering the steaks and Chef Rick Tramonto, the guest judge, thought he did a great job of cooking his steak medium rare. Though he didn't win immunity, he did get first pick of which protein he wanted to use for his appetizer and entree in the Elimination Challenge.
7. When the chefs had to cook in Rick Tramonto's Steak and Seafood restaurant, who were the judges' VIP guests?

Answer: Past "Top Chef" winners

Past Top Chef winners Harold, Ilan, and Hung came back to help judge the Elimination Challenge. Tom introduced them to the chefs as the VIP guests for the challenge and they took their places at the table with the other judges. They were able to provide their thoughts and opinions about how the dishes tasted and which ones they liked and disliked.
8. Which of the following chefs was constantly at odds with several of the other chefs?

Answer: Lisa

Lisa constantly had a bad attitude during the competition. She often disagreed with the other chefs, even when they were supposed to work as a team. One of the chefs that she had the most problems with was Dale. She also often had problems dealing with Spike.

She lived in New York when she decided to compete for Top Chef, though she was from Canada. She made it to the Finale even though she had been on the chopping block at least five times before the Finale.
9. Where was the "Top Chef Finale" held?

Answer: Puerto Rico

The contestants took some time off before they had to travel to Puerto Rico for the final competition. The guest judge for their first challenge was Chef Wilo Bennet, who specializes in Puerto Rican cuisine. Stephanie won the advantage in the Quickfire and got to pick the sous-chefs for her competitors.

Puerto Rico is an island in the Caribbean and is a commonwealth of the United States. It has two official languages--Spanish and English--and its capital is San Juan.
10. Who won the title of Top Chef for season four?

Answer: Stephanie

Stephanie Izard was living in Chicago when the show aired, but she was originally from Connecticut. During the show, she had ups and downs, but she won two Quickfires and four Elimination Challenges. She was also the first woman to be named as Top Chef.
