Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In what year did "Frasier" debut?

Answer: 1993

"Frasier" debuted in 1993 as a spinoff of the highly successful sitcom "Cheers."
"Frasier" followed the life of Dr. Frasier Crane as he moved from Boston back to his hometown of Seattle, Washington to take job on the radio. He also wanted to be close to his father, Martin, and his brother, Niles.
"Frasier" was one of the most successful spinoffs and lasted for 11 seasons. There will never be another show like it.
2. What was the name of the actor who portrayed Dr. Frasier Crane?

Answer: Kelsey Grammer

Kelsey Grammer portrayed Dr. Frasier Crane. He originated the character on "Cheers" before getting his own show. He played the role for 20 years. His daughter, Spencer, is an actress in her own right with her show "Greek."
3. What was the name of Niles' first wife who was never seen?

Answer: Maris

Niles was married to Maris when the show began. She was never seen but was mentioned a lot. There was one episode called "Voyage of the Damned" where we saw her shadow through the shower curtain where Martin, Frasier and Roz were hiding. In the episode "Rooms With a View", we saw Maris lying in a hospital bed, her face covered with bandages as Niles sat next to her. To us viewers, Maris was described as being rich, snobby, very thin, and selfish. Niles did whatever she asked throughout their entire marriage, even during their separation.

She tried to get him to do whatever she asked after their divorce but by that time he was happy with Daphne.
4. What was the name of Frasier and Niles' late mother?

Answer: Hester

Hester was Frasier and Niles' mother and Martin's wife. We found out near the end of the series that she died of cancer. Frasier and Niles took after their mother in every way. She was smart and sophisticated. She was a psychiatrist and Frasier and Niles became psychiatrists. Martin talked about her a lot.

It was love at first sight when Martin and Hester met. They were standing over a chalk outline of a murder victim. She was loved and missed by all of them.
5. What was the name of Frasier's only son?

Answer: Frederick

Frederick was the only son of Frasier and his ex-wife Lilith. Lilith got full custody of him and Frasier got to see him on special occasions and some weekends. Lilith was hard person to be around sometimes but she and Frasier still cared about each other even after their divorce. Lilith relied on Frasier for a lot and would come to him for advice.

They were good parents to Frederick even if they didn't love each other anymore. They had Frederick's best interests at heart.
6. What job did Martin have before he was shot and was forced to retire?

Answer: cop

Martin was shot in the hip and forced to retire. He hated it. He eventually had to move in with Frasier because he kept falling in the shower. Frasier hired Daphne as his physical therapist. Martin started out as a grumpy, bitter person but over time he mellowed out and turned out to be a nice guy. He really was a good father to Frasier and Niles.
7. What was the name of the episode where Niles met Daphne for the first time?

Answer: "Dinner at Eight"

Niles didn't meet Daphne until the third episode of the first season, "Dinner at Eight." When he met her for the first time, he was smitten. He couldn't act on his feelings at the time because he was still with his first wife, Maris. Daphne didn't find out about Niles' feelings for her until much later, in the episode "Back Talk". Frasier was on painkillers for his back and Daphne was rubbing his back and he confessed that Niles had been in love with her for years. Before long Daphne realized she loved Niles as well.

They were one of the best sitcom couples in my opinion.
8. Where did Daphne hail from?

Answer: Manchester, England

Jane Leeves, the actress who portrayed Daphne was actually born in Ilford, London, England and grew up in East Grinstead, England. She worked in England as a dancer but due to an injury, she decided to become an actress. She moved to the the US to try to make it big and it was the smartest move she ever made.

She had a small role on the sitcom "Murphy Brown" as Audrey Cohen before hitting it big as Daphne on "Frasier." The Mancurian accent she used on the show was actually the idea of the creator of the show, the late David Angell.

It wasn't an authentic Mancurian accent because the creators and producers of the show were afraid us viewers wouldn't understand her. So Jane came up with the accent she used for Daphne and it worked. Jane really made the role her own. She didn't do much after "Frasier" until 2010 when she got the role of Joy Scroggs on "Hot in Cleveland."
9. What was the name of Roz's daughter?

Answer: Alice

Alice May Doyle was the only child of single mother, Roz Doyle. Roz was Frasier's producer at the radio station. She and Frasier were like brother and sister. Roz even mentioned in the episode "Frasier Loves Roz", that Frasier was the longest relationship she ever had with a man, and the most successful.
Alice grew up before our eyes on the show and was a young lady when the show ended. Roz did a good job of raising Alice alone.
10. What did Niles and Daphne name their son?

Answer: David

On the season finale "Goodbye, Seattle", Daphne gave birth to her and Niles' son, whom they named David. David was in honor of the creator of the show, David Angell, who died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Niles thought David would be more like Daphne's side of the family; her brothers drank a lot and were soccer players.

He thought that because when Niles placed a speaker on Daphne's belly that played classical music, the baby kicked it off. Also, Daphne's water broke when Niles' mentioned going to the pub for a drink. Daphne thought that he would be more like Niles' side of the family, knowing French before he enters school and playing the piano. From what I gather though, I'm sure David was a little bit of both of his parents.
11. What was Martin's beverage of choice?

Answer: beer

Martin was a beer drinker. He only drank Ballentine's. He almost always had a beer in his hand. Personally, I can't stand the stuff. To each their own I guess.
12. What was Frasier and Niles' usual beverage of choice?

Answer: sherry

Frasier and Niles, unlike their father, loved sherry. They did drink wine from time to time and were even in a wine tasting club. They didn't care for beer much. Frasier would share a beer with his dad once in awhile but he preferred sherry. Niles wouldn't even go near beer.
13. Daphne claims to have come from a large family, of mainly boys. Daphne was the only girl. How many brothers did Daphne say she had?

Answer: 8

Daphne had eight brothers, all older. She was the youngest and the only girl. Of all eight of her brothers, we only met five over the course of the series. Daphne claimed that her favorite brother was Stephen and that her brother Billy was gay and was a ballroom dancer. He taught her how to dance.
14. What was the name of Martin's wife in the series finale?

Answer: Ronee

Martin married Ronee in the series finale "Goodbye, Seattle". Ronee was Frasier and Niles' babysitter when they were young. Frasier used to spy on Ronee and her boyfriend when they were together because he had a little crush on her. Martin and Ronee's wedding was delayed because Eddie ate the wedding ring. Niles and Daphne took Eddie to the vet to get the ring back.

While there, Daphne went into labor and gave birth to her and Niles' son, David. Frasier married his father and Ronee in the vets office.
15. What kind of dog was Eddie?

Answer: Jack Russell Terrier

Eddie was a Jack Russell Terrier and was played by two different dogs. In the first few seasons he was played by Moose, until his son Enzo took over. Moose was getting too old to play the part. Moose died in 2004.
Eddie was Martin's companion. Eddie liked to stare at Frasier and drive him crazy. He was quite a character. One time Eddie went into a depression when he couldn't find his favorite doll. He was fine again once he found it.
Moose was a great dog and he served us well.
