Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Douglas, proprietor of the Raeburn Inn, has advertised for a family with school-age children to come and run a Bed and Breakfast on which island?

Answer: Ronansay

The Ronansay town council are voting to close the schoolhouse unless more children take up residence on the island (swelling classroom attendance to FIVE). Although opening the Bed and Breakfast means competing for the tourist trade, Douglas agrees it's the only way for a newly arrived family to make a living.

A note on the show's location: Scottish coastal village Port Logan is the fictional Ronansay Island.
2. What color is Gordon's ferry?

Answer: Red

You can't miss it! Socially outgoing and not meaning harm, nevertheless Gordon tends to gossip and tell tales. As part of one storyline, it takes the coast guard calling with a special commendation before anyone believes Gordon's heroic tale of a daring at-sea rescue.
3. What is Kenny pretending to be?

Answer: Abby's husband

Doubtful the islanders would accept a single mother, Abby invited good friend and neighbor Kenny to pose as her husband in the B&B venture. Their secret creates some awkward and amusing moments, adding layers to their already complicated relationship.
4. What are Abby's kids' names?

Answer: Alfie and Charley

Brother and sister (Charley's a girl). Young Alfie was having some bully issues back in the London inner city, but with Kenny's fatherly influence and enough island mischief he is settling down a bit. Charley is a genuinely sweet little girl who befriends Malcolm's Alzheimers addled mother. Charley hopes her Mum and Kenny will fall in love and marry.
5. Abby used to work in a topless bar.

Answer: False

Gordon hears incorrectly when Kenny mentions that Abby once had a job in a tapas bar (serving Spanish appetizers). Hazards of a windy day.
6. A man named Terry arrives at the Bed and Breakfast for an indefinite stay. He is mysterious yet familiar. Why?

Answer: He is Kenny's estranged father

Suffice it to say, a lot of years of father/son quality time were sadly wasted.
7. When Malcolm goes in search of Ida to find out why she left the island in such a hurry, what does he discover?

Answer: She has a son

Malcolm is relieved to find Ida has deep feelings for him after all, and with her son, Peter, in tow they head back to Ronansay. From different cultures (Ida and Peter are Fillipino) and displaying opposite temperament, still... salt of the earth, Malcolm and Ida are perhaps the sweetest couple on the island.
8. Where does Alistair take Carolyn the night of the big storm?

Answer: To the hospital in Portree

The townsfolk turn out to help with Malcolm's oat harvest when pregnant Carolyn is overtaken by cramps and must be helped down the hill to rest. In the middle of the night a storm rages, and she's not rebounding. If it weren't for Alistair, the father of her baby, getting up the courage to sail her across the bay to the hospital, it's most likely she would've lost it, so says Dr. Talbot.
9. Who wins the Ronansay Run?

Answer: Dr. Talbot

After one of the kids finds an old trophy buried in the bluffs, Douglas decides to reinstate the invitational beach horse race he so fondly remembers from his childhood, called the Ronansay Run. When race day arrives signs are painted, starting and finish lines established and everyone gets ready.

The problem is that none of the invitees from off the island show up with the exception of Dr. Talbot and his horse. They decide to run the race anyway for the heck of it, and as the doctor and his horse take off down the beach in a solo romp, the cheering little crowd soon conjures up a full field of imaginary competing horseracers. What team spirit!
10. And now for the cliffhanger... At the end of Season Two, Alistair and Abby rekindle their love.

Answer: No

Abby rebuffs Alistair's drunken attempt at reuniting. She's thinking more of Kenny these days and actually proposes that they marry.... ahh, but is her heart in it? (We shall soon find out when and if PBS schedules Season Three here in the States).
