Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which British comedy did Basil frequently explain about Manuel, "He's from Barcelona"?

Answer: Fawlty Towers

Basil Fawlty was the hotel owner played by John Cleese. Basil claimed to have possessed a working knowledge of Spanish language before hiring the Spanish waiter, Manuel, but Basil's limited control of Spanish rarely resulted in clear communication between him and Manuel.
2. Hyacinth, Rose and Daisy were the sisters who did not have a "swimming pool and room for a pony".

Answer: Keeping Up Appearances

Although Hyacinth probably aspired to have the means to own a swimming pool or a pony, she probably would have spent any extra money on a country cottage or a new three-piece suite. Daisy was content with her husband, Onslo, whatever their circumstances, and Rose kept busy with other women's husbands.
3. Jean and Lionel reconnected after thirty-eight years.

Answer: As Time Goes By

Jean and Lionel's relationship was one of several followed in the series. Other couples whose relationships we followed were Rocky and Madge, and Judith and Alistair.
4. Gareth took to public singing to express his deep feelings of loss after Janet left.

Answer: Chef!

Gareth, the world-class chef who had more interest in food than in his restaurant's customers, could not resist the urge to publicly express his feeling of loss when his wife, Janet, left him. The customers did not give as much attention to Chef's singing as his kitchen staff did.
5. Villagers were initially shocked when their new religious leader, Gerry, was a female.

Answer: The Vicar of Dibley

After the initial shock, the villagers of Dibley decided to give their new vicar, Gerry or Geraldine, their approval. Geraldine, a self-described "babe with bosoms", proved herself to be a competent leader of the Dibley flock.
6. Captain Peacock inquired of Mr. Humphries, "Are you free?".

Answer: Are You Being Served?

Captain Peacock frequently asked Mr. Humphries if he was free, to which Mr. Humphries usually replied, "I'm free!" Customers could make their inquiries of the pompous Captain Peacock and he would in turn direct them to a salesperson who was free to assist them.
7. Martin reprimanded Joan for her recent sexual activity.

Answer: Doc Martin

Doc Martin was shocked when he learned of his Auntie Joan's affair with a much younger man. After walking in on the lovers in his Auntie's kitchen, Doc Martin told his Auntie Joan that osteoporosis and sex on the kitchen table don't mix.
8. Her boss questioned Pauline about her online gambling.

Answer: Doc Martin

Doc Martin discovered that his practice manager, Pauline, had been using the office computer to gamble online. When asked about her gambling, Pauline told Doc Martin that her gambling problem was that she never won anymore.
9. Aunt Penny asked for moral support for husband Steven, after she had a premonition of her own death.

Answer: As Time Goes By

The result was that Aunt Penny's health was fine, but not before all the family was lying on the floor in a circle in an effort to concentrate group energy for Aunt Penny while she was in hospital. All the drama put Lionel in a bloody mood.
10. Al and Bert Large became involved with loan sharks.

Answer: Doc Martin

Father and son plumbers and caterers Bert and Al Large frequently found themselves on the losing side of business. P.C. Penhale amazingly came to the rescue when Bert had taken a business loan from an unscrupulous lender.
