Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Let's start off with Daffy Duck's "catchphrase". What would Daffy inevitably mutter when bested by someone like Bugs Bunny?

Answer: You're despicable!

Voiced by Mel Blanc, Daffy always speaks with a pronounced lisp, so that the words come out as "You're desthpicable." The other catchphrases listed belong to Bugs Bunny ("What's up doc?"), Yosemite Sam ("Great horny toads!") and Speedy Gonzalez ("Ay carumba!"). (Curiously, Daffy also occasionally borrows the catchphrase "Suffering Succotash" from Sylvester the Cat.)
2. Daffy first appeared in "Porky's Duck Hunt". Although many modern features of Daffy are not present, this cartoon established that he tends to make what noise when he does something screwy?

Answer: Hoo hoo!

"Porky's Duck Hunt" features the common Looney Tunes trope of the hunter (Porky Pig) getting outwitted by his prey (Daffy Duck), although Elmer Fudd hunting Bugs Bunny is far more famous.

Early Daffy Duck cartoons emphasize his "Daffy" side. Daffy frequently does crazy things and then ends up bouncing around hollering "hoo hoo!" or even "Woo hoo!" (which has now been more famously used by another famous animated character, Homer Simpson). In the uncut original version of "Porky's Duck Hunt", Daffy even bounces all around the end credits.
3. In "Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2th Century", Daffy, as Duck Dodgers, attempts to claim Planet X and its deposits of Illudium Phosdex for Earth, but is balked by Marvin the Martian, who attempts to claim Planet X for Mars. After several skirmishes, how do Daffy and Marvin ultimately resolve their differences?

Answer: Neither yields and they blow up the planet

"Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2th Century" was made in 1953 during the Cold War. The cartoon was not only funny in its depiction of the little war Daffy and Marvin get into, but served as a warning that the doctrine of "mutually assured destruction" wasn't much of a solution. The final line goes to Porky the Space Cadet, who, hanging desperately to the last remnants of Planet X while listening to Daffy declare victory, mutters, "Eh, b-b-b-b-big deal."

In 1994, "Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2th Century" was voted the 4th greatest cartoon of all-time by a poll of animators.
4. In "Rabbit Fire", what does Daffy say after this following exchange? Daffy: "Rabbit season!" Bugs: "Duck season!" Daffy: "Rabbit season!" Bugs: "Duck season!" Daffy: "Rabbit season!" Bugs: "Rabbit season!" Daffy: "___________"

Answer: Duck season! FIRE!

The "hunting" trilogy "Rabbit Fire", "Rabbit Seasoning", and "Duck! Rabbit, Duck!", heralds a change from Daffy the crazy duck to Daffy being the victim of Bugs's mental agility. In each of these films, Elmer Fudd is hunting animals with a gun, and the two try to persuade Elmer to shoot the other one. Bugs always wins, usually by getting Daffy to tell Elmer to shoot the duck, because Daffy always gets too excited and doesn't pay attention to what he's saying.

"Rabbit Seasoning" was voted the 30th greatest cartoon of all time.
5. What famous literary hero does Daffy Duck emulate to save the fair Melissa Duck from the clutches of the Lord High Chamberlain and Grand Duke?

Answer: The Scarlet Pimpernel

"The Scarlet Pumpernickel" (a pun on the Scarlet Pimpernel) has Daffy attempting to convince a producer to cast him in a drama instead of a comedy. Sadly for Daffy, he's not cut out for the role, as he routinely falls into the ground and crashes into walls while attempting to swashbuckle his way to victory. The cartoon is notable for having more than its fair share of star characters, featuring Porky as the Lord High Chamberlain, Sylvester as the Grand Duke, and Elmer Fudd as the innkeeper.

"The Scarlet Pumpernickel" was voted the 31st greatest cartoon of all time.
6. Daffy takes on the role of Robin Hood in "Robin Hood Daffy". In one famous scene, he attempts to prove that he really is Robin Hood by ambushing a rich traveler. What cry does Daffy (repeatedly) use to launch his attack?

Answer: Yoicks, and away!

Daffy does his best Wile E. Coyote impression in this sequence. He swings down on a rope, but keeps running into trees and other obstacles as the traveler obliviously rides on. Eventually Daffy gives up in disgust and becomes Friar Duck.
7. In "This is a Life?", Bugs Bunny is the guest of honor at a show reviewing Bugs's past accomplishments. Daffy is in the audience, and after some admonishment from Granny, what does he end up doing?

Answer: Runs onstage to steal a gift given to Bugs

Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam, the presenters, grow annoyed at seeing their defeats and failures paraded for all to see and give Bugs a "gift": a bomb hidden inside a gift box. Meanwhile, Daffy, annoyed that he isn't the guest of honor, finally loses control, runs up on the stage, and takes the gift from Bugs because he feels he deserves it more. Of course, the bomb goes off backstage.
8. In "Ali Baba Bunny", Daffy and Bugs discover a cache of treasure with a mysterious oil lamp. What does Daffy end up doing after he ends up releasing a genie from a lamp?

Answer: He tries to stuff the genie back in because he's afraid the genie will steal the treasure

This cartoon exemplifies the more modern Daffy's tendency to be insatiably greedy. After seeing the treasure, Daffy is so blinded with greed that he interprets everything as a threat to his new found wealth, including the genie. The genie gets angry at being stuffed back into the lamp and instead of giving Daffy wishes, shrinks Daffy into a tiny duck. Even in that size, Daffy is still able to grab a pearl inside an oyster and refuse to let go, saying "It's mine! mine! all mine!" repeatedly.

"Ali Baba Bunny" was voted the 35th greatest cartoon of all time.
9. In "Show Biz Bugs", Bugs and Daffy are doing a vaudeville act together, but Bugs's acts get a lot of applause while Daffy's are all failures. Seething in anger, what does Daffy do?

Answer: He drinks a highly combustible concoction and swallows a lit match

Daffy tries to upstage Bugs by performing an incredible stunt that involves him drinking gasoline, nitroglycerin, gunpowder, uranium-238, and then swallowing a lit match. After the explosion, the audience finally goes wild for Daffy, but unfortunately, Daffy isn't around to enjoy it since he's dead.
10. In "Duck Amuck", the fourth wall is broken and Daffy ends up in a battle with the animator (who turns out to be Bugs Bunny). After the scenery, sound, and even Daffy himself are transformed, Daffy ends up meeting himself. What happens next?

Answer: They get into a fight

This cartoon is regarded as Daffy Duck's magnum opus, as only Daffy could provide empathy to go along with the anger and frustration at being abused by the universe. The cartoon was so successful the concept was reused with Bugs in the Daffy role in "Rabbit Rampage" a few years later, but it wasn't nearly as funny as the one starring Daffy. At one point, Daffy is completely erased from the cartoon, but his voice and character are still undeniably Daffy.

"Duck Amuck" was voted as the 2nd greatest cartoon of all time, behind only "What's Opera, Doc?" (which did not feature Daffy).
