Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Known for his apparently bottomless stomach, dizzy demeanor, and guttural 'speech', what character is actually based on a quadruped of the southern hemisphere?

Answer: Taz

Taz is (very loosely) based on Tasmanian devils; his endless appetite is tribute to the oft-held idea that devils will eat anything. While drawing Taz, the animators apparently decided to also incorporate other 'devils' into his character - the dust devil spinning, and hair that looks like horns on his head being two. Taz first appeared in the episode "Devil May Hare", where he wanted to eat Bugs.
2. Although a prototype of this south-of-the-border character first appeared in 1953, the canon version had his debut in 1955, where he matched wits with Sylvester the Cat. Which character?

Answer: Speedy Gonzales

Speedy Gonzales (sometimes shortened to just Speedy) is a stereo-typed Mexican mouse who can reach incredible speeds. Because of the way he is portrayed, in 1999 Cartoon Network announced that they would no longer show any episodes with Speedy in them.

However, when a large campaign - backed by League of United Latin American Citizens - got underway, CN reversed the decision and Speedy was back on the air in 2002.
3. Which feline's catchphrase invokes a possibly pained dish that was popular during the Great Depression?

Answer: Sylvester

Sylvester's catchphrase is, of course, "Sufferin' succotash!" Tom is the titular cat of "Tom & Jerry"; Garfield has his own comic strip, and Penelope is the retroactively named cat that Pepe le Pew is always chasing.
4. Daffy Duck is another one of the "Looney Tunes'" most recognizable characters, and he often finds himself playing roles that were remarkably similar to previously released heroes. Which of these heroes does Daffy never have a take on?

Answer: Spaceman Spiff

Yes, Daffy has had quite a varied career! He plays Robin Hood in "Robin Hood Daffy", a Buck Rogers-like character in "Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2 Century", and a Hopalong Cassidy spoof in "Drip-Along Daffy". Spaceman Spiff is from another comic strip ("Calvin and Hobbs") entirely.
5. In the episode "Water, Water Every Hare", Bugs is an unwilling brain donor; after his escape, the mad scientist sends a monster to bring him back. Although referred to as Rudolph here, what is the official name of this hairy beast?

Answer: Gossamer

First appearing in "Hair-raising Hare" (where he is never named), Gossamer's name is highly misleading. He is the large, red hairy thing that is, in fact, revealed to be nothing BUT hair in "Duck Dodgers and the Return of the 24 1/2 Century".
6. First appearing in "Baby Buggy Bunny", what is the name of the criminal that is cared for by Bugs in this episode due to his youthful appearance?

Answer: Baby-Faced Finster

According to Wikipedia, he's also known as Anthill Harry, presumably due to his height. In "Baby Buggy Bunny", he gets mixed up with Bugs after having robbed the Last National Bank; at the end of this episode, he is sentenced (off-screen) to 99 years. However, he returns for a cameo of sorts in "The Looney Tunes Show" episode "It's A Handbag". All of the incorrect answers I just made up.
7. Inspired by a popular radio show character, this avian joker has a very - I say, a very - recognizable speech pattern. Which character?

Answer: Foghorn Leghorn

Foghorn Leghorn's voice and habit of repeating himself were inspired by a character from a then-popular radio show hosted by Fred Allen. Foghorn made his debut in the episode titled "Walky Talky Hawky", which pitted him against Henery Hawk.
8. Easily fooled, naïve, and somewhat obsessed with the name George, what is this chilly character's name?

Answer: Hugo

Hugo the Abominable Snowman is the one! Professing to 'love bunny rabbits!', he is often seen trying to keep Bugs (or, as he calls him, George) as a pet of sorts. According to Wikipedia, his mannerisms are a play on Lennie Small from "Of Mice and Men", where Lennie's friend is named George Milton.
9. Everybody's favorite extraterrestrial, Marvin Martian, is often seen with a loyal four-legged companion. What is the name of this unsung sidekick?

Answer: K-9

K-9 has some striking similarities to Disney's Pluto, but I'm sure that's a coincidence! K-9 however is a very alien shade of green and usually wears 'armor', somewhat like his master's.
10. While not as well-recognized as other "Looney Tunes" teams, these pastorally inclined canines have become an American pop term for 'the loyal opposition' or 'the usual suspects'. What are their names?

Answer: Ralph and Sam

While usually 'credited' as Ralph Wolf and Sam Sheepdog, there are at least two episodes where the names are reversed. Ricky and Lucy are from "I Love Lucy", Jack and Jill are from the nursery rhyme, and Tom, Dick and Harry is a saying meaning everyone.
