Answer: Michael Dawson

Michael is played by Harold Perrineau.

Michael has a child, Walt with is partner Susan Lloyd. Immediately after Walt's birth Susan ditches Michael and shoots through to Amsterdam where she re-marries. When Michael hears of Susan leaving, he loses it, throws a tantrum and gets hit by a car. He is seriously injured and finds himself in a long stay in hospital. Susan, eventually, manages to track him down and urges him to give Walt up so that her husband can adopt him. Michael refuses but, after a long battle, he relents. Jump forward several years and Susan has died. Her husband seeks out Michael and asks him to take Walt back. Walt now lives in Australia which is where Michael travels to collect him and that is how he ends up on flight 815.
2. Kills an abusive step-father

Answer: Kate Austen

Kate is played by Evangeline Lily.

Kate's backstory, leading up to the crash, tells us that her parents divorced when she was very young. Her mother then marries an abusive drunk whom Kate kills, despite discovering that her step-father is, in fact, her biological father. Her mother dobs her into the police and Kate is then on the run. She eventually winds up in Australia, working on a farm. The farmer discovers her true identity and informs her pursuers. Kate is captured and handed over to the authorities. From there she is escorted to the plane.

Answer: Boone Carlyle

Boone is played by Ian Somerhalder.

Boone has been born into money thanks to his mother's successful wedding business. By the time he reaches twenty-one years of age, Boone becomes the Chief Operating Officer of that company. Ten years prior to that his mother had re-married and Boone finds himself with a step-sister, Shannon, who is two years younger than he. Boone develops strong feelings for her. When Shannon's father passes away, Shannon finds herself in financial difficulties and Boone is quick to offer support, which she rejects. Instead, she winds up in a number of relationships with abusive partners. Behind her back Boone pays them off to get out of her life. One of these pay offs will take him to Sydney where he (a) winds up sleeping with Shannon and (b) boarding that fateful flight with her.

Sawyer, which is an alias (real name James Ford) is portrayed by Josh Holloway.

Sawyer's folks were conned by a man who called himself "Tom Sawyer" when he was only eight years old. The result of the con was that his father would kill both himself and Swayer's mother. At this point, Sawyer makes his mind up that when he reaches adulthood, he will hunt down this Sawyer and kill him. Problem was, he didn't have the money and so he began a life as a con-man to make it. Ironically, he has become the epitome of the very man that he is chasing. An elaborate con is played on him, and he winds up in Australia where he shoots the man, he believes is the Sawyer that conned his father. Instead, he'd been set up to kill a man who owed a great deal of money to a prominent individual and winds up being deported. He is then escorted to Oceanic flight 815 to return to the States.
5. Develops a serious heroin addiction

Answer: Charlie Pace

Charlie is by Dominic Monaghan.

Charlie and his brother Liam formed a band named Drive Shaft, score a record deal and immediately enjoy success with a song called "You All Everybody". The song is a worldwide hit but, with it, come consequences. Liam gets addicted to heroin and then lures Charlie to the drug. Whilst Liam heads off to rehab, Charlie sinks deeper into his addiction and resorts to crime to feed his habit. Liam, in the meantime, has married and has a daughter and has moved to Australia. Charlie follows him there in the hope of convincing him to reform the band and do a "comeback" tour. When Liam rebuffs the proposal, a crest fallen Charlie decides to return home, and steps on board the ill-fated flight.

Answer: Hurley

Hurley is bought to life on the screen by Jorge Garcia.

Hurley ends up in a psychiatric institution where he shares time with an inmate who is continually repeating a set of numbers. Once out of the hospital Hurley decides to buy a lottery ticket and he employs those same numbers. He wins but immediately begins to experience a series of bad luck incidents. It seems that the richer he gets the worse his luck becomes. Seeking to find out if there is a curse behind the numbers he is directed to a gentleman in Australia. On arrival he finds that the man he needs to talk has committed suicide (more bad luck), so he turns around to head home and boards flight 815.
7. He exposes his father as an alcoholic, destroying his career

Jack is portrayed by Matthew Fox

Gifted is not a word wasted on Jack. Inspired by his father, in whose footsteps he wishes to follow, Jack enrolls into Columbia University to study medicine. He is that good that he manages to graduate well ahead of his classmates. However, his relationship with his father has deteriorated. He has identified that his glorious father is an alcoholic and exposes him. His dad loses his job and runs off to Australia. Jack heads off to Sydney to track him down and convince him to come home. When he gets there, he finds that his father has died and makes arrangements to take the body back to the States. He and his father's body then board Oceanic flight 815.
8. Worked as a mob enforcer

Answer: Jin-Soo Kwan

Played by Daniel Dae Kim.

Jin is not sure of his parentage. Raised by a fisherman in South Korea who may or may not have been his biological father and born of a woman who was a prostitute. His mother hightailed it out of the family when Jin was still an infant. Jin finds work as doorman and then as a waiter in Seoul and it is here that he meets Sun and falls for her. He visits Sun's father to seek permission to marry her. He gains the approval and does marry her but, unknown to Sun, he has been employed by her father as an enforcer. One of his missions takes him to Sydney and he takes Sun with him on the guise of it being a vacation, with the view to escape the clutches of Sun's father. However, his plan is revealed, and other enforcers strongly persuade him that he must complete his mission. Failure to do so would mean he would lose Sun... and so, he boards that doomed flight.
9. Donates a kidney to his father

Answer: John Locke

John is played by Terry O'Quinn.

In his thirties John's mother tells him that he was conceived without a father which puts Locke on a mission to track him down. He finds him and bonds with him, but it turns out to be a ruse by his father who cons John into donating a kidney to him. Later John would help his father again which destroys a healthy relationship with his girlfriend. Some years later he finds his father in the midst of another ruse, looking to marry a wealthy woman. He seeks to talk him out of it, but the situation turns into an argument and John is pushed out of a window eight floors above the road. He survives the fall, but his back is broken. During rehabilitation it is suggested to him that a walkabout would help him to recuperate. On arrival in Australia, he is not allowed on the tour because he is wheelchair bound and so, he heads off to flight 815 to take him back home.
10. Fell in love with a lady named Nadia

Answer: Sayid

Sayid is bought to the screen by actor Naveen Andrews.

Sayid served in Iraq's Special Republican Guard as a radio expert and mechanical engineer and fought for his country during the Gulf War. He is coerced into interrogating his commanding officer and then, with his newfound skills, becomes the Guard's interrogator. During this time, he falls for one of his prisoners, a lady named Nadia, whom he is instructed to kill. Instead, he helps her escape and then, in fear of his own life, he flees to England. Several years later, he is identified and taken in by the CIA and ASIS. He is given the job of infiltrating a terrorist cell in Sydney, Australia to retrieve some stolen C-4 in exchange for information as to where Nadia is. Despite his attempts to abort the mission it succeeds in a roundabout way, and he is rewarded with the information of Nadia's whereabouts. That's when he boards that fateful flight that was supposed to take him to her.
