Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these conditions interrupts its victim's action and causes them to temporarily flee uncontrollably (and is particularly notable for being caused by many necromancer skills)?

Answer: Fear

Without the safety of the stability boon, a player affected by fear will find themselves interrupted and forcibly heading in the opposite direction to where they're facing for a few seconds. Many skills and traits can inflict fear, including the necromancer's Doom skill, which primarily causes fear for a duration that scales with the proximity of the caster to the target (ie, the closer the caster is to the target when Doom is activated, the longer the fear will last).
2. In which city would you find the headquarters of the Arcane Council?

Answer: Rata Sum

The Arcane Council presides over the asura, acting in much the same way that a government would. The council favours those who are likely to further the race as a result of brilliant invention. Despite their supposed influence, their reach doesn't extend much beyond Rata Sum, leaving those who are perhaps more wary of the council's motives and proclivity to interfere to set up workshops and work on projects away from the prying eyes of council members.
3. The Avatar of the Pale Tree can be found in which area of the Grove?

Answer: Omphalos Chamber

All sylvari are birthed from the Pale Tree, and the Avatar of the Pale Tree is a physical manifestation of the tree's spirit. As such, she is well-protected and held in the same regard as Queen Jennah is to humans and Knut Whitebear is to norn, for instance. Players can meet with the Avatar of the Pale Tree at any time and she plays a vital role in the personal story of those playing as sylvari.
4. The second Living World release, "The Lost Shores", introduced which permanent level 80 zone in the Sea of Sorrows?

Answer: Southsun Cove

Launched on 15 November 2012, "The Lost Shores" brought a new temporary storyline in which a sea-dwelling race known as the karka attacked Lion's Arch and players were able to travel to the idyllic but dangerous Southsun Cove to investigate further. The story culminated in a one-time-only worldwide meta event to defeat the Ancient Karka and protect the mainland from future attacks.

In May 2013, players returned to Southsun Cove in "The Secret of Southsun" as a new temporary storyline began involved increased aggression amongst the island's wildlife.
5. Which of these weapons can be crafted by those who are skilled in artificing?

Answer: Trident

Artificers are able to craft foci, scepters, staves, and tridents. Those trained in the crafts of the huntsman can create harpoon guns, longbows, pistols, rifles, short bows, torches and warhorns. Weaponsmiths can count on crafting axes, daggers, greatswords, hammers, maces, shields, spears and swords to keep the dangers of Tyria at bay.
6. From which Ascalon zone would you be able to access the Citadel of Flame dungeon?

Answer: Fireheart Rise

Chronologically the fifth dungeon of the game intended for players level 70 and above, the Citadel of Flame is home to a veritable army of Flame Legion charr and their zealous leader, Gaheron Baelfire. Players experiencing the story path of the dungeon will ultimately stop Baelfire's attempt to apotheosise himself.

Afterwards, the explorable paths see players taking down a Searing Effigy, destroying the Eternal Flame to stop Gaheron being resurrected, and slaying the Flame Legion's new tribune who seeks to continue where Baelfire left off.
7. Engineers, rangers and thieves are medium-weighted professions and so are referred to collectively by which name?

Answer: Adventurers

The initial eight professions of "Guild Wars 2" are divided into three groups, based on armour weight. Elementalists, mesmers and necromancers are light-weighted (and are categorised as scholars), the aforementioned engineers, rangers and thieves as medium-weighted adventurers, and guardians and warriors as the heavy soldiers. With the launch of "Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns", a ninth profession was added, the revenant, bringing the heavy category up to three to match the others.
8. The members of which playable race of Tyria hail from the Shiverpeak Mountains?

Answer: Norn

A tall and imposing race, the norn are natural-born hunters who venerate those display honour and glory either as champions of battle or hunters of beasts. Norn worship four Spirits of the Wild - bear, raven, snow leopard and wolf and can invoke their power in times of need.

A proud race, the norn are tolerant of others, recognising greatness in others, be they norn or otherwise. Their home city is Hoelbrak.
9. Time Warp, Feedback and Portal are classified as which type of mesmer skill?

Answer: Glamour

Glamour skills are generally ground-targeted or have an effect on a particular area. Time Warp, for instance, is one the mesmer's elite skills and causes allies in its area to temporarily gain quickness, speeding up the activation time of all skills and actions. Manipulations, as they suggest, affect enemies and cause misdirection or evasion (Blink, for instance, allows the mesmer to teleport to a particular location within range, allowing for a hasty exit from the heat of battle). Mantras are normally prepared before entering battle as they take longer than most other skills to activate, but they create multiple charges of a skill (usually two) which can then be used instantly for immediate effect. Phantasms create illusory copies of the mesmer with distinct skills and abilities (Phantasmal Berserkers, for instance, whirl a greatsword through enemies while Phantasmal Wardens can shield allies from projectiles).
10. Take the first letter of each of the previous nine answers (for answers with more than one word, use the first letter of the first word). They'll spell out the answer to this question: What is the name of a legendary axe that players are able to craft?

Answer: Frostfang

Crafted to resemble a frost dragon, Frostfang casts a frosty path in the air when swung and emits a frosty trail upon the ground when walking with it equipped. As one of the first generation of legendary weapons in "Guild Wars 2" and the first legendary axe released, Frostfang requires the precursor axe Tooth of Frostfang and a Gift of Frostfang (which requires playing the Honor of the Waves dungeon, tying in to its ice/frost theme) in addition to the standard Gifts of Fortune and Mastery that all other first generation legendary weapons need.
