Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Following "Clockwork Chaos" and marking the beginning of the second year of Living World releases was "Super Adventure Box: Back to School". Players headed back into asuran inventor Moto's game-within-the-game to conquer World 2 and which boss?

Answer: Storm Wizard

Where World 1 of the Super Adventure Box took place across glades, forests and swamps, World 2 headed skywards, taking players across river rapids, clifftops and and cloud-touched mountains. Awaiting players at the end of the world was the Storm Wizard, who used a variety of attacks including transforming into a dragon after seemingly being defeated.

Although the Super Adventure Box was the main focus of this release, there were also some wider changes to the game, including Ascended weaponcrafting and magic find becoming an account-bound bonus rather than an armour/weapon stat.
2. "Tequatl Rising" saw a significant overhaul to the battle against Tequatl the Sunless. It also introduced a brand new, highly coordinated boss event against the Great Jungle Wurm. In which zone does this occur?

Answer: Bloodtide Coast

Prior to this release, the Tequatl encounter was fairly straightforward: when the dragon landed, players would simply attack it until it was defeated. Having seemingly learned from this, the new battle takes place in several stages and requires a fair amount of coordination with other players. Special hylek turrets need to be operated (and defended) to prevent Tequatl from gaining stacks of invulnerability, while others focus on getting its health down. Once it reaches a certain threshold, Tequatl flies off briefly and players need to defend three special batteries and the Vigil Megalaser they power for a set time. If everything remains intact, the Megalaser charges up and shoots Tequatl out of the sky, stunning it temporarily and leaving it very vulnerable to attacks.

It will regains its composure shortly afterwards and the cycle will start again until it is defeated. The Great Jungle Wurm (not to be confused with the one in Caledon Forest's Wychmire Swamp) requires even more coordination, as players tackle three independent heads of the wurm, located across Bloodtide Coast.
3. "Twilight Assault" saw players explore a brand new area inside the Twilight Arbor dungeon. This new Aetherpath marked the closure of which explorable dungeon path?

Answer: Forward/Up (Fyonna's Path)

With the Aetherblades still roaming Tyria, a new base was discovered inside the Twilight Arbor, leading to the creation of a new dungeon path. This encounter is noticeably more difficult and more time-consuming than the other paths, as players fight their way through hordes of enemies and solve some tricky puzzles to reach the centre of the Aetherblade base where a giant mechnical oakheart (appropriately named the Clockheart) resides.

The destruction of this creation doesn't necessarily signal the end of the Aetherpath; upon the Clockheart's defeat, Lionguard forces sweep in and a number of optional supplementary tasks begin.
4. The annual Halloween celebrations came to Tyria in the "Blood and Madness" release. This time, events focused on Mad King Thorn's son. What's his name?

Answer: Edrick

After the defeat of Mad King Thorn in "Shadow of the Mad King" (who cruelly burst through the iconic fountain in the centre of Lion's Arch), it was time to send his son, Bloody Prince Edrick, packing in his reliquary beneath the ruins of the Nolani Academy. Last year's Halloween activities returned, including the fiendish Mad King's Clock Tower jumping puzzle and the Lunatic Inquision PvP challenge.
5. Both the "Tower of Nightmares" and "The Nightmares Within" releases saw which Krytan zone permanently ravaged, with a toxic tower rising high out of Lake Viathan?

Answer: Kessex Hills

Once a picturesque landscape, Lake Viathan and its surrounds become contaminated and toxic with the release of "Tower of Nightmares". The titular tower was a great obelisk constructed by krait and intended to protect a huge plant that was spreading deadly toxin. Armed with an antitoxin (and a special new healing skill available to all professions), players ventured inside and worked their way up to the very top, eventually destroying it and bringing the obelisk crashing down.

However, that particular part of Kessex Hills remained corrupted by the toxin and strewn with debris.
6. Staying true to her word, Ellen Kiel successfully funded the research into which event in Tyrian history, which was added as a Fractal in the "Fractured" release?

Answer: The explosion of the Thaumanova reactor

Back in the "Cutthroat Politics" release, players were able to vote for the new head of the Captain's Council of Lion's Arch. Ellen Kiel triumphed over the Black Lion Trading Company magnate Evon Gnashblade. Evon's promise was to conduct research into the fall of the god Abaddon (which occurred many, many years ago before he rose again in "Guild Wars: Nightfall"), while Ellen's involved the magical instability at the asuran Thaumanova reactor. Alongside the new Thaumanova fractal in the Fractals of the Mists, the events that took place in the Molten Facility during the "Flame and Frost" story arc and the infiltration of the Aetherblade Retreat from the "Sky Pirates of Tyria" release also became new fractals.
7. Once again, Tyria celebrated the Wintersday festival and welcomed the asuran toymaker Tixx and his Infinirarium in "A Very Merry Wintersday". Which of these was not one of the festive activities on offer?

Answer: Mad King's Labyrinth

The Mad King's Labyrinth is, of course, a Halloween activity. "A Very Merry Wintersday" brought back many of the activities featured in the previous year's "The Wondrous Workshop of Toymaker Tixx". The Winter Wonderland jumping puzzle returned, as did the Bell Choir for the musically-inclined. Players could also venture into Tixx's Infinirarium for the Wondrous Workshop and Toypocalypse activities. For those who preferred a little bit of PvP in their Wintersday celebrations, the Snowball Mayhem arena was open for some fun snowball fights and gift hoarding.
8. Players delved deeper into Scarlet Briar's past in "The Origins of Madness", while also fending off a huge clockwork marionette attack which occurred in which Shiverpeaks zone?

Answer: Lornar's Pass

The Twisted Marionette, like the redesigned Tequatl encounter and Great Jungle Wurm, required a coordinated effort to take down. Five lanes led towards the marionette staging area and each lane needed to be defended as wave upon wave of Aetherblades and Twisted flooded forth from portals. Failure to prevent enemies from reaching the staging area would add charge to the marionette's Aethercannon. One lane at a time would then be given the opportunity to destroy one of the marionette's supporting chains by destroying Twisted champions and power regulators. Again, failure to destroy all the regulators in the small time window would add more charge to the Aethercannon.

This cycle was repeated until either all the chains were severed and the marionette was defeated or the Aethercannon was fully charged, at which point it would discharge, killing every player in the entire zone of Lornar's Pass.
9. "The Edge of the Mists" added a brand new World vs. World area, intended to be an area where players could enjoy some instant though non-contributory WvW while queueing for the main borderlands/battleground. Participating servers are divided into three teams. Which one of these is *not* one of the three?

Answer: Skyvale

Though each WvW match-up consists of three servers, the Edge of the Mists bundles in all servers of that particular region (NA or EU) and assigns them to a team of their respective colour. That is, all red servers in their own match-ups become the red team, Badlands, in Edge of the Mists, while all green servers become Overgrowth and all blue servers become Frostreach.

Edge of the Mists matches take place on a four-hour timer and there is no queue to enter, unlike the Borderlands and Eternal Battlegrounds. Although completing objectives, taking over keeps, and other such actions won't contribute to your server's WvW standings, winning an Edge of the Mists match will grant your server a supply drop in your own Borderlands.
10. In perhaps the biggest shake-up of Tyria yet, the "Escape from Lion's Arch" and "Battle for Lion's Arch" releases saw Scarlet Briar attack the free city and destroy it with her malevolent drill. What was the drill called?

Answer: Breachmaker

With her study of Tyrian ley lines complete, Scarlet led a full-on assault of Lion's Arch with her huge Breachmaker drill, beginning in "Escape from Lion's Arch". Leaving much of the city in ruins, the incursion also brought with it a city-wide spreading of toxic miasma, periodically cutting off all access to the city because it was simply deemed too dangerous to enter. As the levels subsided, players were allowed back in temporarily to conduct rescue efforts and help citizens escape.

During the events of "Battle for Lion's Arch", players finally took the fight to Scarlet and attacked her atop the Breachmaker. However, as the final blow was dealt to her, the drill completed its task to tap into the latent ley lines under Lion's Arch. This caused a magical surge of energy to makes its way across Tyria to the depths of the Maguuma Jungle, awakening another Elder Dragon.
11. The "Festival of the Four Winds" release intended to bridge the gap somewhat between the first and second seasons of the Living World. It saw the return of which travelling group of people?

Answer: Zephyrites

Following their previous appearance in the "Bazaar of the Four Winds" release, the Zephyrites returned in "Festival of the Four Winds" for a celebration of Scarlet's defeat. Access to the Labyrinthine Cliffs and Divinity's Reach's Crown Pavilion was once again permitted, giving players another opportunity to get some unique and otherwise unobtainable rewards.
12. The "Gates of Maguuma" release kicked off the second season of the Living World and it introduced a whole new zone to explore in the Maguuma Wastes. What is this zone, which shares its name with a zone from the original "Guild Wars"?

Answer: Dry Top

With a new Elder Dragon awakening beneath Tyria, it was time to head into unfamiliar territory. "Gates of Maguuma" marked the beginning of exploration into the western reaches of Tyria, starting with Dry Top, accessed from Brisban Wildlands. Strewn with debris from the Zephyrite airship crashes, Dry Top is frequently buffeted by sandstorms, severely affecting line of sight but also uncovering buried treasures.

The story missions of "Gates of Maguuma" involved players investigating the disappearance of the Master of Peace, the Zephyrite leader, and tracking down the sylvari Aerin, who was responsible for causing the airship crashes.
13. The "Entanglement" release saw Mordremoth's influence grow, disrupting the asuran waypoint network as it spread across Tyria. Its takeover of Fort Salma in Kessex Hills led to the death of which recently-introduced character?

Answer: Belinda Delaqua

As players arrived at the stronghold, accompanied by Marjory and Kasmeer, they were immediately set to work clearing out the immediate Mordrem threat outside the gate and rescuing Seraph soldiers. Having been sent to Fort Salma in "Gates of Maguuma", Belinda Delaqua instructed players to make their away around the perimeter of the fort and secure an arrow cart, to finish off the last few Mordrem assaulting the other gate.

However, the arrival of a particularly dangerous Mordrem Thrasher led to a tense fight to protect Fort Salma.

When the dust had settled, players returned to the inside of the fort to find Belinda dead, hanging lifelessly from the clutches of a Mordrem tendril. Breaking down at the sight of her dead sister, Marjory departed to give her mother the bad news.
14. Players were tasked with convincing the leaders of the main races of Tyria to attend a world summit in "The Dragon's Reach, Part 1", hosted by the Avatar of the Pale Tree. Which character joined players in convincing the charr imperator Smodur the Unflinching to attend?

Answer: Rox

Rox came along for the ride, as did Rytlock Brimstone and the aforementioned imperator, as players headed below the surface of the Plains of Ashford into the tombs of Duke Barradin. As usual, players were accosted by Ascalonian ghosts on the way through, before two particularly adept spectres possessed the broken statue of Duke Barradin and gave battle in a scene not dissimilar to the charr introductory instance. Upon the statue's defeat, Rytlock's sword, Sohothin, opened up a mysterious portal and disappeared into it, causing Rytlock to give chase into the Mists after his legendary weapon.
15. "The Dragon's Reach, Part 2" marked the end of the first part of the Living World, Season 2. The climactic battle at the world leaders' summit saw players fighting off which foe, last encountered within the sylvari Dream?

Answer: Shadow of the Dragon

For newly-created sylvari characters, the introductory instance takes place in the Dream, an ethereal collective consciousness. It had been invaded by the Shadow of the Dragon and players fought it off before properly arriving in Tyria. Fast forward to the historic leaders' summit in "The Dragon's Reach, Part 2" and that very same foe, a servant of the Elder Dragon Mordremoth, attempted to disrupt proceedings and attack at the Pale Tree herself. Luckily, players were able to fight it off and receive a mysterious vision of things to come.
