Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who do you save first on Corneria (the first stage)?

Answer: Slippy

The first member of your team that'll ask you to be saved will be Slippy. This happens near the beginning of the first level, so no matter what route you decide to take through the Lylat system, you'll always play this part. You can either save Slippy (the easiest way is to lock onto his follower), or let him take the damage and retreat from battle (or you could shoot him down yourself, if you're really sadistic).

It's generally a good idea to save allies, as they can provide distractions and they perform nicely as cannon fodder when fighting bosses (but all your team mates don't have particularly good accuracy).
2. How do you get to Corneria's alternate boss?

Answer: Fly through all the stone structures

There are actually two parts to getting to the alternative boss. First off, you have to save Falco for his three pursuers just as you're exiting the city. Then, you have to fly through all the stone structures sticking out of the water (A smart bomb will appear in the first one as soon as you pass through it. Do a summersault right after you pass through and you can pick it up).

It's pretty easy enough. The last two are a little difficult due to their spacing. Once this has all been done, Falco will inform you that he's "found the target".

He'll lead you through the water wall into a canyon with enemies and bombs. After that, it's the alternate boss.
3. Can you get a lock on Meteo Crusher (Meteo's boss) with a charged shot?

Answer: No

This is what makes bosses that much harder. You can't get a lock on them to fire a charged shot or a homing bomb. This normally means you just have to pump lasers into them, or dumb-fire your bombs. This is quite difficult in the case of Sector Y, as the boss is small, fast, and blends in with his surroundings.

A Few exceptions to this rule are the Star Wolf Team (you can get a lock), and Bacoon (the giant clam from Aquas). Parts of certain bosses can be targeted, if not necessarily a part that will damage them when hit.
4. On Katina (Bill's stage), how many hatches are there on the mother ship?

Answer: Four

The level starts off easily enough, with just a few enemies, and a lot, if not weak, allies. Soon, the mother ship will appear and head for the base. You'll have a small cut-scene of the mother ship pouring out enemies and then you get to go fight it.

It has four hatches that will periodically open to release new fights (you will be notified by Bill). This is the only time you can hurt them. Once the hatches are destroyed, the core will appear, and so will a timer. If the timer reaches zero, the mother ship with destroy the Cornerian base (kind of like in "Independence Day") and you'll proceed to Sector X. If you take out the core in less than a minute, then you'll have the option of traveling to Solar.
5. What happens when your Arwing loses a wing?

Answer: Both of these

You lose a wing by running sideways into indestructable objects (such as turning sideways and flying into the ground). When you lose a wing, your laser go back to its original, weakest form. Also, because one side of your ship will be stronger, you'll start to drift to the side without a wing (you can balance yourself out by knocking off the other wing, but that will hurt you).

When you lose a wing, all green Laser pickups become wing repairs.
6. How do you get to Aquas (the underwater stage) from Sector Y (the stage with the giant yellow Y inthe background)?

Answer: Get 100 points or more

This is quite easy to do. Basically mash the A button and fire at everything (it helps if your hyper lasers are carried over from the first mission). Charge your lasers and lock onto enemies in the middle of groups to maximize the splash damage potential. The large, stationary turrets on enemy capitol ships can also be destroyed. Have fun in Aquas!
7. What does the enemy bio-weapon (the boss) in Aquas resemble?

Answer: A Clam

A giant Clam with tubes on its top that shoot out wierd snake-like enemies. The clam is only vulnerable when it's open. It opens and closes using two muscles that can only be seen when it opens up to take a peak.
8. Who provides you with the shield status bar for the boss?

Answer: Slippy

A nice advantage to having Slippy around is that he will provide you with a boss' shield status, or in other words, health bar. If you don't have Slippy with you on a mission (because he was shot down or is being repaired) then you don't get the status bar.
9. Is it possible to fight Star Wolf twice in one play through?

Answer: Yes

Star Wolf fights you on three stages: Fortuna, Bolse, and Venom, hard mode. The first time you fight Star Wolf, it has to be on Fortuna, the third stage, and then you have to make your way over to Area 6 so you can get onto Venom, hard mode, where you'll fight them again. They are much harder on Venom. If you fight them on Fortuna and then head to Bolse, then you won't find them a second time.

An alternate way to fight Star Wolf twice is by fighting them on Fortuna first. If you don't shoot them all down (and the bomb in the base goes off) then you can fight the remaining ones on Bolse (which will have upgraded ships).
10. What effect takes place while on Solar (the sun)?

Answer: Your shields are constantly falling

On this stage, your shields are constantly falling. However, burning rocks are also regularly launching themselves up and out of the sea of lava, which, when shot, burst open to reveal silver rings and stars. There aren't many enemies on this stage (compared to others), and they don't shoot at you. Basically, keep your shields up by blasting open the rocks, and try not to hit/shoot down the gores (lava bat things).
11. How can you save Slippy from being smacked to Titania (the desert stage) from Sector X (the stage with the giant blue X in the background)?

Answer: Destroy the boss fast enough

Well, this is a fun boss. The first part is easy: shoot the eyes until it takes enough damage and seems to power down (and its head explodes). Then, it'll reawaken and this is where you have to act fast. It'll start flailing, using a new array of attacks, and two yellow points on its top will light up. Shoot the yellow points as fast as you can until the boss' health is at zero. If you don't destroy the boss fast enough, it'll smack Slippy down to Titania. If Slippy isn't smacked down, you will have the option to travel to Macbeth.

If Slippy isn't smacked down, and you get the chance to go to Macbeth, but you decide to go to Titania anyway, the game will play out as if Slippy had been smacked down (you won't get Slippy until the boss).
12. How many switches are there on Macbeth (the train stage)?

Answer: Eight

There are two ways to beat Macbeth. There's the normal way, which involves taking out an extremely annoying boss, granting a few points, and sending you to Bolse, and the easy version of Venom. The other way is much easier, worth more points, and sends you to the much more entertaining Area 6. Just when the boss is starting, there will be a series of eight switches that are just a little out of your way. If you shoot all eight, then a lock will open, and then you'll have a shot at the master switch. Shoot the master switch to change the track, sending the train, with the boss tethered to it, into a factory, resulting in on of the largest explosions in the game, which also happens to be worth fifty points!
13. Which of the following is not an all-range mode level?

Answer: Solar (the sun)

All Range mode is when you are fighting in a large, open area, with full control of your ship, as opposed to 3D scroll mode, where you're just pulled along a set path, during which you shoot stuff that flies by. In All Range mode, you can chase enemies, or strafe bosses anyway you like, while pulling your own, cool maneuvers to outwit the likes of Star Wolf.

Some levels (Katina, Bolse, and Fortuna) are entirely All Range mode, while other levels just have All Range modes for bosses, such as Meteo or Sector Y.
14. Which of the following stages can you NOT travel to after completing Sector X?

Answer: Zoness (Katt's stage)

If you go to Sector X, you can go to one of three places: Titania, Macbeth, or Sector Z. The easiest to get to is Titania, which you'll either be forced to go to or have the option to go to no matter how you complete Sector X. Macbeth is a little tougher, but just involves destroying the boss fast enough. To get to Sector Z, you have to take the left path (when you have a chance to choose), and then shoot all the gates (rectangular things, big enough for an Arwing to fly through) open.
15. If you pass the stage Zoness, then Katt may come back to help you in a later stage. Which one?

Answer: Macbeth (the train stage)

After you play Zoness Katt will come to help you in either Macbeth or Sector Z (both levels are right after Zoness). She'll shoot down a few enemies and, if you're on Macbeth, even hit a switch or two for you to help you send that train into the factory. Katt won't come to help you if you came from Solar or Sector X. Bill will do something similar if you visit Katina.
16. How do you get to Sector Z from Zoness?

Answer: Destroy all the searchlights

Destroying the searchlights isn't too hard. Plus, they're worth points, and only take one shot to destroy. They'll get harder to hit later in the level (by hiding behind gates and the like). The beams will start off white, but if you're detected (miss one), then they'll turn red to indicate they you've been found. If they do detect you, nothing changes in the stage; you just don't get to go to Sector Z.
17. Can you visit Sector Y, Sector X, and Sector Z in one play through?

Answer: Yes

All three Sectors are fun stages. First off, to get to Sector Y, defeat Corneria's alternate boss. After that, go to Katina, and then to Sector X (where Bill will come and aid you). In Sector X, take the right path and shoot enough laser blasts into each rectangular gate until in opens. Once all gates have been opens and you've passed through them all, you'll go into a warp section that will take you to Sector Z.
18. In which stage can the Great Fox provide covering fire for you?

Answer: Area 6 (the second last level, hard mode)

Throughout the game you'll have noticed that ROB64 will prompt you to press the right C button. He'll say "location confirmed, sending supplies". In Area 6, though, you'll have two opportunities where, instead of sending supplies, ROB64 will fly the Great Fox and destroy enemy capitol ships along your flight path. Also, for the first time, Andross will taunt you.
19. Is it possible to play through the game only using an Arwing?

Answer: Yes

Alright, this follows the same principals as traveling to all three sector stages (X,Y,Z), except this way, it doesn't matter if you got to Sector Y or Meteo for your second stage, as long as you end up in Sector X, and take the warp rout to Sector Z, you'll have played through the game using only an Arwing. To avoid Aquas and the Blue Marine is pretty easy, because it's on the hard route anyway, and you'll always have the option to avoid it. If you fly the stage Solar, then your only possible course is Macbeth .

In Sector X, as said before, you'll have the ability to go to Titania or Macbeth (both Landmaster stages), or Sector Z.
20. Which of the following is not a playable vehicle for multiplayer?

Answer: Blue Marine

The original vehicle available for multiplayer is the Arwing. If you collect all the medals in the normal game (which requires multiple playthroughs), then you'll unlock the Landmaster and Expert mode for the campaign. If youcollect all the medals a second time, in expert mode, then you'll unlock a third multiplayer option, No vehicle.

When playing without a vehicle, your character runs around with a large, shoulder mounted cannon. Characters on foot are very difficult to hit, especially from a Landmaster or Arwing.
21. Which area doesn't have a warp section?

Answer: Area 6 (the second last stage, hard mode)

Warp sections are odd bits in the game. You get a new sound track when flying them, and the enemies don't fight you, and in the case of the Meteo warp, it's loaded with laser upgrades and smart bombs. You're only problems will be avoiding the crazy, silver enemies, and oddly coloured obstacles.

In Meteo, to access the warp section, you have to fly through all the blue discs (that make your ship spin), and you'll end up at Katina. The last one is a little difficult to hit, but possible. For Sector X, just shoot open the gates on the right-hand path, and you'll find yourself at Sector Z.
22. Is it possible to fight alongside Katt and Bill in one play through?

Answer: No

Bill is on Katina, a third stage, and Zoness can only be accessed from Aquas, the alternate third stage after Sector Y. Once you're on Katina, there's no way to get to Zoness.
23. Tough one. What's the name of the pilot in Area 6 that gave the report of Starfox's arrival?

Answer: Caimen

I don't know why, but I hold a little sympathy for Caimen. The level starts off with a cut scene, in which Caimen reports to his headquarters, saying there were no problems. Instantly after, though, one of his wingmen is shot to smithereens as the Star Fox team ambushes Area 6, Venom's defense grid. During the stage, Caimen will report Star Fox's progress through the defenses to his superiors, who grow increasingly angry. You never get to actually fight Caimen.
24. How do you get a medal on a stage?

Answer: Shoot down enough enemies

Some medals are easier to obtain than others. It all depends on how many enemies you shoot down in a stage (the required number varies from stage to stage). Generally easy missions to achieve a medal on are Fortuna, due to it's low requirement, Sector X, due to the sheer number of enemies, and Macbeth, with the destruction of the factory being worth fifty points. You also have to keep all your wingmates alive to get a medal. Losing a wing has no bearing on whether or not you get a medal.
25. In the hard version of Venom (last stage), Andross has two stages. The first is his normal head and hands as seen in the easy version of Venom. What's the second stage?

Answer: A Brain

The first part of Andross is easy enough to beat if you know what you're doing. Basically, shoot his eyes until he scratches them, leaving one hand exposed for you to shoot at (depending on which eye you shoot, will determine which hand is exposed). If you don't shoot his eyes, he'll spend a lot less time sitting idol, and a lot more time smacking you around/sucking you up (when he sucks you up, it's really quite difficult to avoid, and you lose a lot of health, and both wing - hyper lasers).

Stage two is in All Range mode. It's a giant brain with two eyes tethered to it. The eyes like to seek you out and mash into you. Their tethers are also made of energy, and hurt you when you run into them. Destroy the two eyes first. Next, the brain will start teleporting away from you if you're facing it. You're going to have to use U-turns and sharp turns to get a shot at its vulnerable part on its underside until it's dead.

Once done, boost your way back out of the tunnel (with the help of an ally), and you'll be home free, finished Star Fox 64! Yay! Thanks for taking my quiz.
