"Atari" Potpourri Trivia Quiz

I had to create one more quiz on "Atari 2600" games because I thought it was the coolest thing ever invented when it was popular. For some reason, the nostalgia is still with me even though the graphics from those games were beyond pitiful.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This game came free with "Atari" at one time and had three different types of vehicles that you could fight each other with. One type of these vehicles were jet fighters. Which game was it?

Answer: Combat

"Combat" was most known for its tanks. In fact, 80% of the game's options included tanks. However, the last few options included both bi-planes and jet fighters.
2. This game featured two cowboys shooting at each other. Usually there was an obstacle between them such as a cactus or a stagecoach. Which of these was it?

Answer: Outlaw

"Outlaw" was a cartridge in where all you had to do was shoot the man at the other end of the screen before he shot you. Sometimes the cacti and stagecoaches absorbed bullets and sometimes they could be chipped away at.
3. Which of the following was a way to lose a life in the game "Tapper"?

Answer: A beer spilled on the floor

In "Tapper", you had four bars to service and people would come forward demanding beers. When they finished their beers, they would toss the empty glasses back at you. If it hit the floor, that round was over and you would lose a life. If the customers would reach the end of the bar before they were served, you would also lose a life. However, yours truly make up the other three possible answers.
4. Which of these Atari games needed to be played with a joystick controller?

Answer: Adventure

Most games on the "Atari 2600" needed a joystick and "Adventure" was no exception. This was my favorite "Atari" game and I even created a quiz about it. The other three games were more of exceptions to the rule. They required the use of the paddle controller which was much more clumsy and harder to control.

However, it would get your man from the left side of the screen to the right side of the screen and vice-versa much more quickly.
5. In what part of the screen did your ship start from during the game, "Asteroids"?

Answer: The center

You had a little ship that began in the center of the screen. It could spin and move very quickly but usually took it two or three shots to destroy an asteroid. Most of the time it would break the asteroid into smaller pieces.
6. Was there a game called "Superman" that you could play on "Atari 2600"?

Answer: True

This was a really silly game in which Superman flew over the city and had to retrieve Lois Lane and a few other things without running into kryptonite. I think I might have paid $35.00 for this cartridge.
7. Which of these other systems were in direct competition with the "Atari 2600" right after "Atari" was released?

Answer: Intellivision

It was a distant second, but "Intellivision" was the main competition to the "Atari 2600" early on. The "AppleIIE" soon released games and then came "Coleco Vision". "Nintendo" was at the beginning of a different era.
8. Which "Atari 2600" game has the same name as a Tom Hanks movie?

Answer: Bachelor Party

The game had nothing to do with the movie except that they shared a name. In fact, "Bachelor Party" was nothing more than a sophisticated version of "Breakout". Instead of a vertical screen, you had a horizontal one.
9. This game was created by "Activision" for the "Atari 2600". Up to four players could play at one time. Which one was it?

Answer: Decathlon

This game consisted of 10 different athletic events and its graphics were good, especially for the "Atari". It kept score for up to four people in events such as diving, the shot put, the long jump, and the 100-meter dash.
10. Which of these was not an "Atari 2600" game?

Answer: Pac Man's Daughter

There was a "Pac Man" and a "Mrs. Pac Man" on the "Atari 2600" but no "Pac Man's Daughter." I have the other three cartridges to prove that they were once games on "Atari".
