Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Mario Brothers" Series

Answer: Yoshi & Rosalina

"Mario" games have had so many different characters over the years and the newer games have introduced or replaced some. Of course we all know the original plumber brothers, Mario and Luigi hopping around and collecting stars in the very first "Mario Bros." game. I wonder if Nintendo had any idea how popular that these games would become in 1983, when it was first released.

Yoshi was in the "Super Mario" series. He actually eats his enemies and they turn into eggs, which can be used to help him destroy other characters.

Rosalina was in the "Super Mario Galaxy" series. She is a chief supporter in the games, helping the characters with answers to questions to help them through the game.
2. The Legend of Zelda

Answer: Beedle

"The Legend of Zelda" was one of my favorite games as Link made his way around picking up swords and powers. "The Legend of Zelda" was published by Nintendo and released back in 1986.

Beedle like to sell products as he travels around. If you came across him, you could buy or sell items to him. Beedle, also known as Terry, can be found in numerous games but he made his debut in the "Wind Waker".
3. Pac-Man

Answer: Ghosts

These four colorful characters like to gang up on you and destroy you in the game of "Pac-Man". They started destroying Pac-Man in 1980. They are actually afraid of the power pellet. The four ghosts are named, Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde. Your job is to eat all the dots before the ghosts eat you. Every once in awhile you will see a piece of fruit come thumping along and you can eat that for extra points. How do you eat them you ask? Moving around your controller, very quickly and very precisely!
4. Frogger

Answer: Bone Cruncher

As "Frogger" walks around in "The Great Quest" video game, he will be approached by The Bone Cruncher. Now the Cruncher doesn't just look like he can crunch your bones, but with his massive teeth he could totally crunch you in his mouth! One little hint, you may want to attempt using a shrinking stone to make it easier to get rid of the Cruncher.

You can find the Cruncher in "The Great Quest" on PlayStation 2 and this game was released in 2001. You can even have Frogger swim for the first time in this game.
5. Donkey Kong Country

Answer: Enguarde the Swordfish

If you've played a few of the "Donkey Kong Country" games, you will know the Swordfish for sure. He's helped Donkey at least five games, including "Donkey Kong 64". Most of the time Donkey needs him in the water. Donkey is either using his sword or riding Swordfish in the games.

Swordfish is a pretty blue fish with a long nose, perfect for a um, a sword fight maybe? He was first seen in 1994 and played on Super Nintendo!
6. Pong

Answer: Paddle

"Pong" was released in 1972 and one of the easiest games to pick up. Move the curser (or paddle) back and forth when the ball came down. The ball would hit the sides of the walls or the bottom row and bounce right back in a diagonal move. It was easy to hit the ball but sometimes that paddle was just a little too short and you would barely miss it, causing you to use curse words in front of your mother.

Atari developed the first "Pong" game. You could purchase the home game and hook it up to your television set in 1974. Little did Allan Alcon know that he would open the doors for so many video games, when he created "Pong". Alcon's story was actually shown in the movie, "Jobs" about Steven Jobs.
7. Tetris

Answer: Puyo Puyo

I recall the first "Tetris", an easy game where you had to move different figures around to make a straight line. Once the line was completed it would disappear and all the boxes above would move down. Sounds easy, but they had to make it more complicated and added some slimy green, red and other colorful characters to the game. Match them up and they will disappear also.

The "Puyo Puyo" Sega version was released in 1991. "Puyo Puyo Tetris 2" game came out in 2020. The original "Tetris" was released in 1988, they even have "Tetris" championships that started in 2010. Michael Artiaga won the championship in 2021. "Puyo Puyo" must be popular because they have over 17 versions of the game.
8. Space Invaders

Answer: Core Cannon

Core Cannon almost resembles a little green building with an antenna right in the middle. They call it a peg on the top, I say antenna. Many other characters were in the game, the Crab, the UFO and Nameless. If you ever get a chance to hit an old pinball place, try your hand at the original version.

I recall playing the original version back when it was released in 1978. It was a video game with no ending. You could kill as many fleets and planes and it never stopped. There was no purpose, just rack up the points. I loved listening to the sounds of the fire as you were destroying the fleet and the sad sound of when you were killed. Can you hear it?
9. Paperboy

Answer: Mrs. Worthington

Hypothetically, you're working for a video game company and they ask you to create a video game. You are having a cup of coffee and reading the paper and it comes to you, "Paperboy". What a great idea! I'll have him delivering papers, avoiding vicious dogs, getting to meet the neighbors and it'll be great. What do you think your bosses would say about your idea? Well four guys actually made it happen and it became a big hit with Atari in 1985 and "Paperboy 2" would be released in 1991.

Mrs. Worthington was one of many characters that he met along his route. She's very attractive but has a lot of issues with her husband and goes to the bottle to make herself happy. Mrs. Vollmer is also on his route, she's very nice and likes to see him happy.
10. Cars: The Video Game

Answer: Chick Hicks

You may recognize the green 1979 Shyster Cremlin car from the movie, "Cars", but you'll also see it in the "Cars" video game. I think it's cute that they race at Smasherville International Speedway. This is one of the Piston Cup Races. Chick always seems to have some sort of trick up his sleeve, I mean hood. Chick has been in a few of the video games including, "Cars: Fast as Lightning" and "Cars 3: Driven to Win". He doesn't always have a green car, but he's always sneaky and fast!

"Cars: The Video Game" was released in 2006 and XBox customers were very happy. They didn't want you to confuse "Cars" the video game with the movie, so it was either with or without "Video Game" in the title.
