While Mario and the Princess are walking along, a mysterious cloud gathers over the Princess's castle and strikes it with a lightening bolt. Mario runs off to investigate. There are eighty levels in "New Super Mario Bros." As there are three coins per level, there are two hundred forty star coins in the entire game. In "New Super Mario Bros. Wii", there are 231 Star Coins. They add four thousand points in that title, whereas in "New Super Mario Bros." they add one thousand.

In World One you fight Bowser in the first castle. After you defeat him, Bowser falls into a lake of lava and his flesh is melted off. The next time you see Dry Bowser is in the first castle in World 8. Bowser Jr. is able to resurrect Bowser by putting his bones into a magic potion and using magic to bring him back (in a scene reminiscent of Lord Voldemort's return in the end of J. K. Rowling's novel "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire"). Bowser grows to three times his normal size.

Dry Bowser appears as an unlockable character in "Mario Kart Wii" and an Ice Hockey Captain (along with three Dry Bones) in "Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games".
