Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many stars can be collected in "Super Mario Galaxy"?

Answer: 121

In "Super Mario Galaxy", you begin the game as Mario. If you get 120 stars as Mario, you can unlock Luigi as a playable character. Once you get 120 stars as Luigi, you can go to the Mushroom Kingdom and complete a Purple Coin Challenge, in which you collect all 100 Purple coins, which gives you another power star.
2. Who is on top of the castle in "Super Mario 64"?

Answer: Yoshi

Once you collect all 120 stars in the castle, a cannon opens up outside of the castle. When you aim the cannon at the castle, you will land on top of it. Up there is a wing cap, three extra lives, and Yoshi. Yoshi gives you 99 lives and jumps of the castle. Each time you play again, he comes back on the castle.
3. In which level of the original "Super Mario Bros." can the "Minus-world" glitch be done?

Answer: 1-2

To do this glitch you must have either a mushroom or fire flower. Near the end of 1-2, you can crouch down on top of the pipe. After you do this, jump to the right, and you will go through an invisible wall. Then, go into the 1st pipe. Instead of sending you to World 2, it sends you to World -1.

It is actually supposed to be World 36-1, the game is not programmed to use 2-digit numbers, so the 36 is invisible.
4. In each level of "Super Mario 64", there is a red coin star. How many red coins must be collected in "Super Mario 64" to get a star?

Answer: Eight

"Super Mario Galaxy" uses this idea but there are 100 purple coins, and the coins are usually found in bunches, not just one, like in "Super Mario 64". In "Super Mario Sunshine", there are also red coins challenges. Even in the Bowser boss levels, there are still red coins to collect.
5. Who are the playable characters in "Super Mario 64 DS"?

Answer: Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi

Oddly enough, you begin this game as Yoshi. Peach sent Mario a letter to invite him to her castle for cake. Mario, Luigi, and Wario go, but disappear. Lakitu wakes up Yoshi and tells him that they are gone, so Yoshi goes into the castle to rescue them. You first free Mario, then as Mario you free Luigi, and as Luigi, you free Wario.
6. How many playable characters are there in "Super Mario Kart"?

Answer: Eight

The eight playable characters are Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Bowser, Donkey Kong Jr., Koopa Troopa, and Toad. The series' next sequel, "Mario Kart 64", also has eight playable characters. Another installment, "Mario Kart Wii", has twenty-four characters and user-created Miis can be used.
7. How many "Secret Castle Stars" can be collected in "Super Mario 64"?

Answer: Fifteen

In "Super Mario 64 DS", there are thirty "Secret Castle Stars". In both games, three of these stars can be collected from Toad. One is in the Hazy Maze Cave entrance, another is under the stairs on the second floor of the castle, and the last one is on the third floor of the castle right next to Tick Tock Clock.
8. How many stars can be collected in "Super Mario 64 DS"?

Answer: 150

"Super Mario 64 DS" has fifteen more secret stars than "Super Mario 64". Also, some levels contain silver star challenges. Since there are also three more characters in "Super Mario 64 DS", some more stars are added which can only be obtained by one character.
9. Including Special World, how many worlds are in "Super Mario World"?

Answer: Nine

The first four installments in the series only contain eight worlds. It is important to note that you do not need to beat Special World to beat the game. You do need to beat Special World to get 100% completion in the game, as well as all of the other secret levels hidden in the worlds.
10. Which "Super Mario" game was featured in the 1989 film "The Wizard"?

Answer: "Super Mario Bros. 3"

The main character, Jimmy, enters a game tournament to prove that he does not need to live in an institution. The game he plays in the finals is "Super Mario Bros. 3". This was the first introduction of the game to America, although the game had already been released in Japan. Jimmy wins the tournament by entering a warp pipe near the end of the game.
