Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Mega Man" came out in 1987, which is the same year "Zelda II: The Adventure of Link" came out in Japan.

Answer: True

"The Legend of Zelda" came out on the Famicom Disk System in February 1986, one year before "Mega Man". In 1987, Nintendo released "Zelda II: The Adventure of Link" in January 1987, almost a full two years before America got "Zelda II" in December 1988. Both "Mega Man" and "The Legend of Zelda" were released in 1987 in the United States.
2. The Yellow Devil, also known as the Rock Monster, famously disassembles itself one piece at a time and hurtles that fragment of its body at Mega Man. How many pieces total does the Yellow Devil throw at Mega Man before his body is completely on the other side of the screen?

Answer: 20

One of Mega Man's most original opponents that he must fight, the Yellow Devil can be very challenging. The best weapon to use against him is the Thunder Beam.
3. In the first stage of Dr. Wily's fortress, you must use the Magnet Beam to climb up to a ladder. What weapon do you use to obtain the Magnet Beam?

Answer: Thunder Beam

There are two weapons available for use to obtain the Magnet Beam. Mostly commonly used is Gutsman's weapon, Strong Arm. You can also use the Thunder Beam as well. To use the Thunder Beam, however, you must play through Elec Man's stage a second time.
4. How many of the original six stages feature the famous disappearing blocks that have appeared in all five NES sequels?

Answer: Two

Everyone whose played the NES "Mega Man" titles have encountered the disappearing blocks. These blocks were present at the very beginning, appearing on Elec Man's stage and Ice Man's stage. Elec Man serves as a light introduction to the disappearing blocks, featuring a brief section with them. Ice Man's stage has a much more intensive section, anticipating their future use in the sequels.
5. How many frames is Mega Man's running animation?

Answer: 3

Like most NES animations, Mega Man's running is simple and to the point. His animation served him well, as Capcom used the same sprite for all six "Mega Man" NES titles, as well as five Gameboy games, and "Mega Man 9".
6. In the second stage of Dr. Wily's Castle you fight a holographic clone of Mega Man. What other "Mega Man" game borrows this concept?

Answer: Mega Man III

"Mega Man III" borrows two bosses from "Mega Man": the Yellow Devil and the Hologram Mega Man. In "Mega Man III", Mega Man must fight three different holograms, of which only one can be damaged.
7. How many times must you destroy the individual bubbles before they are completely destroyed in Stage 3 of Dr. Wily's Castle?

Answer: Seven

The best strategy on the Bubble Boss is to kill the first three to four bubbles with the Mega Buster, and then use the blocks present on the screen as the bubbles get faster each time you kill one. The last ones can be hard to avoid, making it best to attack them with the blocks.
8. For you music fans out there, Capcom used a portion of the ending music from "Mega Man" and implemented it into the opening music to one of the sequels. Which sequel reuses the first game's ending music?

Answer: Mega Man II

The video game culture in general has highly praised the music of "Mega Man II". It is not commonly known part of that music from that classic title comes from the first game that started it all.
9. In the fourth stage of Dr. Wily's Castle you must fight four Robot Masters back to back. In order, what is the third Robot Master you fight?

Answer: Ice Man

Unlike the five sequels, in "Mega Man" you fight the six robot masters in the exact same order every time. You fight Cut Man and Elec Man in Stage 2 of Dr. Wily's Castle. In Stage 4, you fight Bomb Man, Fire Man, Ice Man, and Guts Man. This is one of the most challenging features of the original game, as you do not get any health refills when fighting these four back to back.

In the sequels, after beating each Robot Master in the teleport room, you get a health refill.
10. How many points does the game award you for beating Dr. Wily?

Answer: 200,000

The only game in the classic series to feature points, "Mega Man" implemented that feature during a time when points was one of the major "points" of gaming. Rather than trying to beat a game, a lot of early video games were just exercises in how many points you could get before you died. Wisely, the five NES sequels did away with points, focusing rather on story and solid platforming.
