"Mass Effect" is set in the Milky Way Galaxy; our home in the Universe, and also home to all the other races (with one exception) in the game. There is a map for the galaxy on the SSV Normandy (your spaceship) from which you can travel anywhere and explore uncharted planets and star systems. You're able to explore the Milky Way once you get control of the ship at the Citadel. From there, you command the ship and navigate via the Galaxy Map, located in the center of the Normandy's command deck. The map has four zoom levels: Galaxy, Cluster, System and Planetary.

An all-female race, the asari are one of the most powerful and respected races in the galaxy. They were the first species after the Protheans to attain interstellar flight, discovering the Citadel and becoming a founding member of the Council.

You first see Miss Williams on Eden Prime, a major human colony, when she is attacked by a bunch of geth soldiers. Once she's rescued, she joins your team and becomes part of it until the end of the game. Ashley is a great human soldier; she's wise and tells interesting stories when you talk to her repeatedly while on the Normandy. She can be really funny at times, too.

Answer: Sniper Rifle

The Infiltrator possesses a mixture of combat and tech talents. They may gain specialist training with Pistols (all classes come trained with Pistols, anyway) and Sniper Rifles, begin with Light Armor (though they may eventually gain the ability to wear Medium Armor), and possess a variety of tech abilities that focus on disabling and crippling the enemy.

The Infiltrator class talent reduces heat buildup with Pistols and Sniper Rifles while increasing damage for tech explosions.

Answer: Liara

Liara, a young asari, is Benezia's only daughter and not nearly as bad as her mother. You get to save her from being held hostage in order for her to help you with your mission at one point in the game. She's an expert and knows a lot about the extinct Protheans.

The Protheans became extinct 50,000 years ago. They were wiped out by the Reapers, who are the actual creators of the Citadel and Mass Relays. In other words, the Protheans did not create the Citadel and Mass Relays, but they merely found them. All this is revealed as you advance through the game.

Answer: The Arcturus System

Arcturus Station is a human space station located in the system of the same name and orbiting the gas giant Themis. It is the location of Admiral Hackett and is the capital of the Systems Alliance and the headquarters of its fleet. Arcturus is from the generation of stars born before Sol.

Its worlds are either gas giants or ice chunks. When the Charon Relay was activated, one exploratory team found that the relay led to Arcturus, 36 light years from Earth. Arcturus, in turn, had several other mass relays in close proximity, including to Exodus Cluster (although at the time the relay between there and the Citadel was either not found, not accessible, or not used).
