Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following mechs was the largest?

Answer: YMIR

YMIR mechs were the largest of the mechs listed, and were also one of the largest and most difficult enemies in the game. They had shields, armor, and health, all of which were quite strong. They carried heavy machine guns that would tear through anything not in cover in seconds.

They were also equipped with rockets that dealt substantial damage, as well as stunning the target. YMIR mechs would also move towards you and your squad while shooting. It was important to constantly move to new cover during the pauses from its machine gun, or to find a point that the YMIR mech could not reach.
2. Which medium-sized geth units can turn invisible by using Tactical Cloak?

Answer: Geth Hunters

Geth Hunters were a medium geth unit. Taller and tougher than normal Geth Troopers, but weaker than Geth Primes and Geth Juggernauts. Geth Hunters used Tactical Cloak to turn almost invisible. They did not take cover, but instead walked straight for you. If they got behind your cover, or if they were standing directly on the other side of your cover, then their shotguns would tear you apart. Geth Hunters would lose their cloak for a short time if damaged enough, and would sometimes rush the squad.

Geth Ghosts, Geth Snipers, and Geth Stalkers were all enemies from "Mass Effect" that never made it into "Mass Effect 2". None of them could turn invisible.
3. Which mechs were like a robotic attack dog?

Answer: FENRIS

FENRIS mechs were small quadrupeds that would run like dogs at their targets. They had no sense of self-preservation, and would not take cover. Up close they could deal moderate amounts of damage, but more importantly, they could stun characters out of cover so other enemies ccould really hurt them.

When FENRIS mechs were destroyed, they created a small explosion that would damage and stun any nearby allies or enemies.
4. The geth used barriers.

Answer: False

The geth made liberal use of shields. A few heavier models also carried armor, but no geth used biotic barriers. Barriers were made using biotics, and because the geth were a synthetic race, they had no biotic potential. Being synthetic, the geth tended to excel at tech attacks, employing combat drones, personal cloaking fields, and shield boosts.
5. Which company made the FENRIS, LOKI, and YMIR mechs?

Answer: Hahne-Kedar

Hahne-Kedar was a human company that supplies a large amount of military equipment. It made all the standard issue small arms for the Human Alliance military. They also sold their products to private businesses.

Hahne-Kedar also started making a series of mechs to augment security forces for relatively low costs. The most common mech was the LOKI mech, which was a humanoid mech of human size, allowing them to fit in with other personnel easily. They could also wield standard weapons used by their organic counterparts.

Elanus Risk Control Services (ERCS) was a multi-species organization that made a number of small arms, including the Predator, Tempest, and Vindicator.

Armax Arsenal was a turian company that made a number of armor modifications.

Elkoss Combine was a volus company that made cheaper knock-off versions of turian products. They made the Avenger and the Shuriken.
6. Geth Rocket Troopers were what color?

Answer: Red

In "Mass Effect", any geth unit that fired rockets was painted bright red. This included Rocket Troops, Juggernauts, and Rocket Drones.

In "Mass Effect 2", the Rocket Drones and the Juggernauts were were removed. The red Rocket Troopers, however, remained. The Geth Destroyer, which was medium sized assault unit in "Mass Effect", was repurposed and repainted in "Mass Effect 2".

Most other geth units were grey or white.
7. Which weapons did the LOKI mechs use?

Answer: Predators and Shurikens

LOKI mechs were only ever seen using the Predator heavy pistol or the Shuriken machine pistol. The Predator was the first weapon acquired in the game. It was the weakest weapon in the heavy pistols category. The Shuriken was the first available weapon in the sub-machine gun category (despite being a machine pistol), and fired in bursts of three rounds.

The LOKI mechs were the only mechs to carry external weapons. The YMIR mech housed internal machine guns and rocket launchers, and the FENRIS mechs physically assault their targets.

At Mordin's clinic on Omega, LOKI mechs could be seen holding Avenger assault rifles. These mechs were never actually seen firing their weapons.
8. Which geth enemies were armature class units?

Answer: Colossi

Armature class geth units were large quadrupedal mobile platforms. They had strong shields and armor, and were armed with machine guns and a heavy plasma cannon.

The smaller of the two armature class geth units was the Armature. They were usually fought in the Mako in "Mass Effect", but could be attacked on foot.

The geth Colossi had the same shape and fighting style as the Armatures, but were much larger and more powerful. They were also bone white, as opposed to a dark grey.

Only one Colossus was seen in "Mass Effect 2". It served as the final boss on Haestrom during Tali's recruitment mission. When explaining the situation, Kal'Reegar called the Colossus an Armature-class unit.
9. Drones usually had only one bar of defense. What was it?

Answer: Shields

There were four different bars that an enemy can have: health, shields, armor, and barriers. Most enemies had a health bar, and harder enemies, or enemies on harder difficulty settings, tended to have a shield bar, armor bar, or barrier bar over top. Any defenses have to be destroyed before most biotic or tech attacks will have any affect. Some enemies, like bosses or YMIR mechs, have a health bar, protected by an armor bar, protected by a shield bar or a barrier bar.

Some enemies don't have health bars. Instead, they have an armor bar (possibly covered by shields), such as the Mantis gunships. Drones are the only enemies in the game to consist of only a shield bar, with no health, armor, or barrier defenses.

There are no enemies that have only a barrier bar.
10. Which geth units used flamethrowers?

Answer: Geth Destroyers

Geth Destroyers show up in "Mass Effect" and "Mass Effect 2", but the two versions are very different. In "Mass Effect," Geth Destroyers were more like Geth Hunters from "Mass Effect 2". They would advance toward the player without taking cover, and use shotguns. They could also sprint, but they did not use any cloaking mechanism.

In "Mass Effect 2", Geth Destroyers are painted red and given flamethrowers. They would still advance towards the squad to make better use of their weapons. As with any flamethrower-wielding unit in "Mass Effect 2", you could shoot the flammable tanks on their backs to make them explode before they get close to the squad. Exploding flame units would often knock over and damage other nearby enemies.
