Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the "Mass Effect" universe, humanity had a space station that served as a research facility and school for humanity's brightest children. It was also where humans trained and studied their biotically gifted individuals. What was the name of this space station?

Answer: Grissom Academy

The station was named after Jon Grissom, the first human to travel through a Mass Relay.

Kahlee Sanders was a protagonist in the first three "Mass Effect" novels. She was also romantically involved with David Anderson. In "Mass Effect 3", Kahlee was working at Grissom Academy when Cerberus attacked. When Shepard went to help, it was the first time players saw her, and heard her voice.

Jack, Shepard's former companion from "Mass Effect 2", was also working at Grissom, teaching the latest students in the Ascension Program how to control and use their biotic capabilities.
2. On Mars, Cerberus infiltrated the research station by using a sophisticated AI in robotic body. What was this AI's name while working undercover?

Answer: Eva Core

The Mars research station was infiltrated by Dr. Eva Core, who was actually an undercover Cerberus android. Dr. Core let Cerberus soldier into the facility, sabotaged its security systems, and killed most of the staff.

Shepard chased down Dr. Core until she was hit by a shuttle. She emerged from the crash, revealing herself as an android. Shepard stopped her and brought the body back to the Normandy for study. EDI, the Normandy's AI, took control of the body, and became a possible squadmate.

Eve Core was the name of the Illusive Man's partner in the the comic "Mass Effect: Evolution".
3. What was the name of Vangaurd-specific biotic power that could stun all nearby enemies?

Answer: Nova

Nova was a new biotic power added in "Mass Effect 3". The user would jump up, and then slam the ground to create a biotic shockwave around them, stunning all nearby enemies. Nova depletes the user's barriers when used, leaving them vulnerable after the attack. Fortunately, the Vanguard's other signature power, Charge, can be used to instantly restore barriers.
4. Miranda's father, Henry Lawson, kidnapped her sister, and was holding her on Horizon where he was performing tests on the Reapers. What was the name of Miranda's sister?

Answer: Oriana

Oriana was genetically identical to Miranda, but ten years younger. They were engineered by their father to be "perfect". Miranda grew up to despise her father, and ran away, smuggling her sister with her. Cerberus helped keep Oriana safe, and gave Miranda a job. When Miranda left Cerberus, they were perfectly happy to work with Henry in exchange for Oriana.

The three incorrect answers were the sisters of Ashley Williams, Shepard's squadmate from the first "Mass Effect".
5. In the "Mass Effect" series, what was the name of the homeworld of the turian species?

Answer: Palaven

Homeworlds for the various species were not seen in the first "Mass Effect" (not even Earth). In "Mass Effect 2", the only homeworld visited was Tuchanka, where the krogan hailed from. Finally, in "Mass Effect 3", the players got to see a whole slew of homeworlds. Palaven was the turian homeworld, and while Shepard never set foot on the planet, the Normandy did visit Palaven's moon, Menae.

Sur'Kesh, the salarian homeworld, and Tuchanka were both visited in "Mass Effect 3". Irune, the volus homeworld, could be found in the galaxy map.
6. What was the name of the large, flying Reaper enemy that showed up only a few times to attack Shepard from afar?

Answer: Harvesters

An uncorupted Harvester was initially seen in "Mass Effect 2", but was only in the background. Unlike other Reaper corruptions, the Harvester did not get a new name. Harvesters would land in places Shepard could not physically get to, and once they endured enough damage, they would fly away. Squads with high damage output could still take them down before they disappeared.

Marauders and Ravagers were both ground troops used by the Reapers. The Praetorian was a Collector enemy seen twice in "Mass Effect 2", and only seen in "Mass Effect 3" in the multiplayer, after the "Retaliation" DLC was installed.
7. What was the name of the elite krogan company Shepard fought alongside on Utukku?

Answer: Aralakh

Aralakh was a new, elite krogan company with soldiers from different clans (a novelty at the time). It was created to foster unity among the bickering krogan people against the Reapers, and you reassert the krogan as major players in galactic politics.

If Shepard's former squadmate, Grunt, survived "Mass Effect 2", he would be leading Aralakh Company in "Mass Effect 3". If not, Dag would lead the company.

Eclipse and the Blood Pack were both mercenary groups fought in "Mass Effect 2". Reegar was the name of a quarian met in "Mass Effect 2", and had a shotgun needed after him in "Mass Effect 3".
8. Who was the turian representative in Shepard's squad for all three games in the "Mass Effect" trilogy?

Answer: Garrus Vakarian

Garrus was one of only two characters that could be a main squad member in all three games. The other was Tali.

Garrus was a turian, Kaidan and Zaeed were both humans, and Wrex was a krogan.
9. At the very end of "Mass Effect 3", the quality of the ending will ultimately come down to which number?

Answer: Effective Military Score

The Effective Military Score (EMS) was the ultimate number the game looked at when deciding which ending the player saw. In the game, players could collect war assets, which provided a fixed number of points. The more war assets collected, the more points a player had when going into the end game. Intel from the mobile game "Mass Effect: Infiltrator" could also be used to gain points.

Collected points were then multiplied by the readiness rating (a percentage) to get the final EMS. The readiness rating had a default value of 50%, which was as low as it could go. It could be improved by playing the multiplayer portion of "Mass Effect 3", but would slip back down to 50% over time.

There were enough war assets in the game to have the best possible ending, even with a readiness rating of 50%, meaning the multiplayer was not required. Players just had to complete more side quests.
10. Use the first letter of the previous nine correct answers to spell the name of a weapon found in "Mass Effect 3".

Answer: Genophage

The release of the Genophage was a major event in the history of "Mass Effect", with repercussions being felt hundreds of years later.

The krogan were a fast-growing species that could survive incredibly hostile environments. They were discovered by the salarians before achieving spaceflight on their own. The salarians "uplifted" the krogan to help fight a galactic menace, the rachni, well before the krogan were truly ready to integrate with the wider galactic community.

Once the krogan were given interstellar flight, they rapidly expanded their territory. When they began encroaching on worlds already occupied by other species, the krogan rebellions began. The krogan were pushing back the combined effort of the entire rest of the galaxy, even with the newly added turians. As a desperate measure, the salarians developed the Genophage, a bio-weapon virus that drastically reduced the krogan birthrate. When they were not able to easily replenish their population, the krogan were soon defeated.

The spirit of the krogan people was broken, and their unity shattered. What remained of the clans fought among themselves, and most krogan fought as mercenaries, rather than for a krogan cause.

In "Mass Effect 3", the leader of the krogan was reuniting the clans and working to cure the Genophage. Whether or not the Genophage was cured was a choice ultimately made by Shepard.
