Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. While most of "Mass Effect 2" took place in the lawless Terminus Systems, Shepard did still travel back to civilization every once and awhile. Who was the new human C-Sec sergeant keeping the peace on the Citadel?

Answer: Bailey

C-Sec was what everyone called Citadel Security. They were the police for the entire station. In "Mass Effect", there were very few humans in the organization, but after the battle with Sovereign, there were suddenly a lot of open positions. Humans were able to fill some of the more senior positions, and became much more visible in the organization. Bailey was a sergeant who was working in the Zakara Ward, where the Normandy docked. He gave Shepard information important for both Garrus' and Thane's Loyalty Missions.

Praetor Gavorn was a turian on Omega, responsible for keeping the vorcha in check. Anaya was a police officer on Illium, and encountered during Sarama's Recruitment Mission. Sergeant Kylon was a guard found in Bioware's other major series, "Dragon Age".
2. Cerberus was a vast organization made up of discrete cells. Each cell was self-contained, with a specific goal. Cells were also separated, and members from one cell would not recognize those of another. What was the name of the cell that was responsible for reviving Commander Shepard?

Answer: Lazarus

The Lazarus Project was the project to bring Shepard back from the dead. Miranda was the leader of the cell and the medical team. She was also the person in direct contact with the Illusive Man. Jacob was the head of security at Lazarus, and Shepard's first squad member after waking up.

Cerberus had many different cells, each with its own objective. Shepard visited the Overlord cell in the "Overlord" DLC, in which Cerberus operatives were trying to control the geth. Some cells were even less ethical, experimenting on Alliance Marines by injecting Thresher Maw venom into their veins, seen in "Mass Effect". Miranda said that the cell performing the questionable experiments was a rogue one, which was ironic considering that Cerberus was already a rogue black ops unit from the Human Alliance.

Gargarin station was a deep space station. It was humanity's first space station outside the local solar system. After the first contact war, it was converted into a school for humanity's brightest children, and also housed the Ascension Project, which was created to help develop human biotics.
3. The civilized galaxy was run by a coalition of species known as the Citadel Council. The heart of this government was the giant space station called the Citadel. This contrasted with the lawless Terminus Systems, which also had a large space station at its heart. What was the name of this large, central space station, and Aria's seat of power?

Answer: Omega

Omega started as an asteroid containing Element Zero (or Eezo). The asteroid was mined, and support structures set up on it. Being in the Terminus Systems, there was no law or government to provide stability, so mercenary groups began enforcing their own rules. After a while, the station grew to more than just a mining operation, and became a nexus for smugglers, mercenaries, and others.

While no official government existed, the most powerful player on Omega was Aria. The other groups were allowed to run their operations as they wished, and could even conduct turf wars, as long as they did not interfere with Aria. Omega was to the Terminus Systems was the Citadel was for Citadel Space, with Aria sitting at the top.
4. One of the dossiers Shepard had was for a warlord/scientist/doctor. This hated man was working with the Blue Suns mercenaries to create the perfect soldier, which ultimately led to Grunt. What was the name of this doctor?

Answer: Okeer

Okeer was a an intelligent doctor, but also a bit of a mad scientist. He was trying to create a genetically perfect krogan. The Blue Suns were funding his research, and in return, he gave them his rejects to use as mindless troops and cannon fodder. Unfortunately, the rejects did not listen too well to the Blue Suns, and could not be directed, so the mercenaries used them as targets in live fire drills.

Okeer did not survive the Recruitment Mission, but Shepard was able to secure his final specimen. If released, this perfect krogan would take the name Grunt, and join Shepard's crew.

Wreave was Urdnot Wrex's half-brother, and would show up if Wrex did not survive "Mass Effect". Mordin was the salarian scientist in Shepard's crew. Saleon was a criminal salarian doctor that Garrus had been tracking when working for C-Sec.
5. Most enemies in "Mass Effect 2" had a health bar. Sometimes they had additional defenses, such as shields, barriers, or armor. Heavy mechs sometimes only had armor and shields. There was a unique set of enemies in "Mass Effect 2" that had only shields (no health, no armor, no barriers). They were first encountered on Freedom's Progress. Which enemies were these?

Answer: Drones

Drones were enemies first encountered on Freedom's Progress, early in the game. They had relatively weak Shields, but could also fly about and be difficult to hit. Overload and Disruptor Ammo were particularly effective against them.

Most enemies had armor and/or health under their shields. Some enemies were "made of armor", and had no health bar. There were no enemies made exclusively out of biotic Barriers.
6. The Reapers and their technology were first seen in "Mass Effect". They could use Dragons' Teeth to convert organic beings (such as humans) into mindless soldiers for their cause. In "Mass Effect 2", new corrupted Reaper forms were introduced. Which enemy was created from many corpses, and would fly around while firing intense laser beams at Shepard?

Answer: Praetorian

Praetorians were terrifying enemies made up of many corpses. They would float around the battleground towards Shepard, firing intense beam weapons. If Shepard ever got too close, a Praetorian would use its claws to quickly destroy any shields and health. Finally, the Praetorian was made of barriers and armor, but would frequently unleash a damaging shriek and fully restore its barriers.

Shepard had to destroy the barriers each time before slowly chipping away at its impressive armor. Despite being one of the most difficult enemies in the game, only two ever appeared.
7. The asari were often viewed as one of the most advanced and civilized species in the galaxy. They were known for being mostly peaceful, and galactic diplomats, but they also possessed technology far more advanced than any other species. However, even the asari had their dark secrets. Sometimes, an asari would be born that could not safely meld with another mind, always killing their partners. What was the name of those with this genetic mutation, such as Samara's daughter, Morinth?

Answer: Ardat-Yakshi

The name of those asari with the mutation was Ardat-Yakshi. They could not safely meld with other beings of any race, and had to be contained. Most lived in a secret monastery on the planet Lesuss. Samara, Shepard's asari squad member, was the mother of three Ardat-Yakshi. She also belonged to the Justicars, an order of asari dedicated to unquestioningly follow their code. Part of that code did not allow Ardat-Yakshi to live unsupervised outside of the monastery. Her daughter, Morinth, refused to be contained, and her mother was forced to hunt her down.

Sha'ira was the name of the asari consort on the Citadel. She was not related to the Ardat-Yakshi in any way.
8. In "Mass Effect", the Reapers had enslaved the geth to fight for them. After Shepard defeated the geth, the Reapers needed new pawns to do their work in the galaxy. Which faction was controlled by the Reapers, and made to abduct human colonists in the Terminus Systems, as the primary antagonists in "Mass Effect 2"?

Answer: Collectors

The Collectors were an enigmatic species that had few, and strange interactions with the rest of the galaxy. No one knew where they were from, or what their population or culture were like. They lived beyond the Omega 4 mass relay, from which no other ships had safely returned. The Collectors would occasionally appear with requests for members of different species with specific genetic anomalies. In "Mass Effect 2", the Collectors became much more active, and started abducting entire human colonies. Unfortunately, those human colonies were small, and in the Terminus systems, outside of Alliance jurisdiction, so little could be done to help or investigate the disappearances.

Shepard was hired by Cerberus to investigate and stop the abduction of human colonies, and discovered that the Collectors' origins and motivations turned out to be a lot more sinister than anyone had suspected.

The Spectres were a multi-racial, elite group of operatives that worked to protect Council space. Commander Shepard had joined the group in "Mass Effect". The Enkindlers was the name given to the Protheans by the deeply religious hanar. The turians were one of the species on the Citadel Council.
9. The "Mass Effect" universe had a wide array of alien species, all living together in different levels of harmony. One alien species was known for being large, strong, and fearless. Their high birth rates and aggressive nature led to a galactic panic when they started expanding their territory. The turians and the Genophage ultimately stopped which species?

Answer: Krogan

The krogan tale was a tragic one. More than two thousand years before the events in "Mass Effect", the rachni became a threat to galactic civilization. The combined forces of the Citadel were being pushed back until the salarians found an new species that could survive harsh conditions. The krogan were a strong species, but a violent one. They had yet to achieve meaningful spaceflight on their own, but the salarians helped by uplifting them. The Council directed the krogan at the rachni, and the Rachni Wars ended soon after.

With access to interstellar travel, the krogan began a massive and rapid expansion of their territory. Eventually they encroached on planets already occupied by other species, and tensions exploded. Fifteen hundred years before the events in "Mass Effect", the Krogan Rebellions started. The krogan were even more dangerous than the rachni. Around this time, the turians discovered galactic civilization, and their disciplined and massive military joined the fight against the krogan. The krogan were slowed, but not stopped, and so the Council looked to more desperate measures. The salarians developed a bio-weapon called the Genophage that greatly reduced the krogan birthrate. The turians released the genophage, and the krogan became unable to sustain their numbers. The krogan were subdued, and no krogan would never trust the Council again. They held particularly strong resentment towards the salarians and turians.
10. Use the first letter of the nine previous answers to spell the name of an organization found in the "Mass Effect" universe.

Answer: Blood Pack

The Blood Pack was one of the three largest galactic mercenary groups. They were made up entirely of vorcha and krogan. The massive number of vorcha were used as disposable troops, while the strong krogan made up the muscle. They also used varren as war dogs.

The Blood Pack were much more violent and less organized than other groups, and were hired mostly as a strong, disposable military force. They were not into other illicit activities, such as smuggling or racketeering.

The Blood Pack rarely used shields or barriers, relying mostly on armor and regenerating health. As a result, flame-based attacks worked best against them. Flame attacks did bonus damage to armor, and enemies on fire were prevented from regenerating health.
