The story takes place in 2014, five years after the Big Shell incident. 2008 was the year the game was released in. The world has turned to war to stabilize the economy. Private Military Companies are now outfitted with nanomachines and ID tagged weapons to ensure balance.

This system of control was designed by the Patriots to give them total control of the War Economy. The system is called "Sons of the Patriots".

The Gun Launderer goes by the name Drebin 893. He is part of a group of Gun Launderer's that exist all over the world. Drebin injects Snake with suppressor nanomachines to block the SOP system from locking the weapon's ID tag, thus allowing Snake to use whatever weapons he acquires for the right price.

The US informant group is an elite unit called Rat Patrol 01. The unit is led by Snake's old ally and lover, Meryl Silverburgh. The other members of the unit are Johnny, Ed, and Johnathan.

The second act takes place in a jungle region of South America. Snake deploys there because Dr. Naomi Hunter sends a message to him and Otacon, saying she is trapped and is forced to do research for Liquid Ocelot's own gain and to find out what is causing him to rapidly age.

While running the tests on Snake to find the cause of Snake's rapidly deteriorating condition she discovers a horrifying truth: Snake will die withing six months. She discovers that the cause is genetic. Due to Snake being a clone, he ages faster than a normal human being.

She also finds out that the FOXDIE virus in him will mutate into a biological weapon, infecting thousands before his death. Snake however remains undeterred, refusing to die before his mission to stop Ocelot is accomplished.

Raiden faces off against the GEKKO's and takes them out with ease due to his cybernetic enhancements. His high frequency blade slices straight through the limbs of the bipedal tanks. Vamp arrives on the scene and clashes blades with Raiden. Raiden in now a match for the seemingly immortal Vamp, which leads Vamp to believe that Raiden too, is immortal. Raiden simply replies, "No. I just don't fear death." Raiden wins the battle, but loses most of his blood in the process.

He manages to make it onto the chopper in critical condition where he manages to tell Snake to go to Europe and find Big Mama.

The group have in their possession the remains of Big Boss. Liquid Ocelot is after the remains of Big Boss to access the Patriot's AI and take control of the SOP system. With the SOP system under his control, Liquid Ocelot could control every modern weapon on earth, making him virtually unstoppable.

The leader of the group was Big Mama, aka EVA. She informs Snake that this all started with Major Zero, Naked Snake's (aka Big Boss) commander during Operation Snake Eater. She goes on to say that she chose to be the surrogate mother to both Snake and Liquid during the Les Infants Terribles project in the 1970's.

She is protecting the remains of Big Boss so Liquid Ocelot cannot control the SOP system.

Snake returns to Shadow Moses to retrieve REX's Railgun which has the ability to launch a warhead from any spot on the globe. REX's railgun was developed before the Patriots launched the SOP system, giving Liquid Ocelot the ability to fire a nuclear warhead at the Patriots AI system in orbit.

Raiden, in an awesome display of swordsmanship, finally cuts down the once thought immortal Vamp. Vamp was the product of Naomi's nanomachine research. His regenerative powers and super human abilities were all the result of nanomachines. Once Snake suppressed those nanomachines, Vamp was finally able to die. Naomi confesses to this being one of the sins she most atone her.

She also confesses that she suffers from terminal cancer. The only thing keeping her alive are nanomachines that are preventing the disease from progressing.

She suppresses those nanomachines, killing herself in the process. Snake and a grieved Otacon than get Metal Gear REX up and running and head for the exit of Shadow Moses.

Answer: USS Missouri

The name of the vessel was the USS Missouri, which is an actual U.S Navy Iowa-class battleship. In World War II ,it was the site of surrender by the Empire of Japan. In the story, the battleship was one of the only Naval Battle ships that could intercept Outer Haven, not being fitted with an SOP system. Mei Ling, Snakes ally in "Metal Gear Solid", is the commanding officer aboard the battleship.

During their battle, Johny admits never being injected with nanomachines. This explains why he was never in sync with the rest of Rat Patrol Team 01. Johnny realizing they may not leave this battle alive, confesses his love and proposes to Meryl. She refuses, saying that she wants things down her way. So she proposes to Johnny during a completely synced gun battle, without the use of the SOP system.

The name of the virus was FOXALIVE. The virus was designed as a counterpart to FOXDIE, destroying only specific parts of data while maintaining the systems civilization still needed to maintain balance. After Snake implants the virus, the virus destroys the Patriots central core AI and puts a halt to the war economy.

At the end of Act V, Otacon says, "Sunny's program destroyed JD's brain but left the brain stem intact...The patriots reign has crumbled away, and still out civilization, a civilization that has thrived on war since the dawn of time, lives on."

While these are all quotes liquid gives in his last speech, the last words Liquid Ocelot says are, "You're pretty good." It's a line Ocelot used when he fought Big Boss in Operation Snake Eater. He also said that to Snake during the events on Shadow Moses.

This time, he was referring to himself as Liquid's doppelganger and Snake as Big Boss's. With his last ounce of strength, Ocelot performs his trademark hand gesture and says, "You're pretty good."

Big Boss tells Snake that the nanomachines Drebin fitted him with were nanomachines that were designed by the Patriots that contained a new strain of FOXDIE that would target the last threats to the Patriots. The last threats being Big Boss and Big Mama. The new strain would still eventually mutate and lead Snake to the same fate, but this would buy him some time. Big Boss ends the patriot reign for good by unplugging Zero's life support before succumbing to FOXDIE.

Snake decides to use what time he has left to see this new age off.
