Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I am a character capable of using magic, and I am casting Flare. Without any special effort, my Flare hits all of my foes. Who am I?

Answer: Lucca

Lucca from "Chrono Trigger" learns Flare as her eighth technique, and the spell is designed to hit all foes. Faris and Terra from "Final Fantasy V Japan" and "Final Fantasy 3 US" respectively, can use a Flare spell that targets one foe only by default. Rydia from "Final Fantasy 2 US" cannot use Flare, but uses Nuke to target one foe in a similar manner.
2. When we each perform the following actions, you will hear a very similar sound and see a fairly similar character animation. Which action does NOT belong? (Example: When Rydia uses Black Magic, she is surrounded by a green ring of light, and you hear a specific sound)

Answer: Terra using Healing / Effect spells

Compare the look and sound of Rosa casting and Edward singing (both from Final Fantasy 2 US" and the look of any character from "Final Fantasy V Japan" (where Galuf comes from)using Blue Magic and you will see what I mean. The healing and effect spells from "Final Fantasy 3 US" from which Terra hails involve a different sound, and line-based casting graphics rather than spheres. I know this one was tough, but they can't all be easy...
3. Three of the following actions will result in the same effect on your foes in battle. Which action produces the different outcome?

Answer: Attacking with the Scimitar in "Final Fantasy 3 US"

All of the above involve slicing characters in half with a sword, causing instant death. The scimitar can only do it one at a time (randomly), whereas the others hit all foes, although Rydia's Odin spell("Final Fantasy 2 US") is highly inconsistent.
4. Three of us hold the same type of weapon... who's the odd person out?

Answer: Shadow

Shadow ("Final Fantasy 3 US") wields special knives, while the other three wield katanas. Incidentally, Edge ("Final Fantasy 2 US") can also use boomerangs and Yang's claws, while Viera assassins can also use Sniper greatbows. Crono can only hold one type of weapon.
5. In "Final Fantasy 2 US" it is possible to defeat the Dark Elf without possessing the TwinHarp.

Answer: False

This was a trick to see how many of you thought I'd figured out a way... Without the Twinharp, Dark Elf screams "YOU CANNOT DEFEAT ME" and hits Cecil, Cid, Tellah, and Yang one at a time for 9999 damage each.
6. Which "Secret of Mana" elemental is found inside a stove?

Answer: Salamando

On the way to fight the Frost Gigas and save Santa, some hustlers are using Salamando to make a tropical oasis in the middle of a frozen forest. Freeing him gives the girl Blaze Wall, Fire Bouquet, and Flame Saber, and the Sprite gets Fireball, Lava Wave, and Exploder.
7. In "Secret of Evermore", the Heal formula recovers character status.

Answer: False

The Heal formula in this game recovers HP, while the Cure formula recovers status. In most other games, Cure spells/actions recover HP while spells like Heal, Remedy, or Esuna recover status.
8. As a Bangaa Defender from "Final Fantasy Tactics Advance", can I use Meltdown if I am the last character standing on my team without losing the battle?

Answer: Yes

Yep... Just be sure to use Aura first. The Aura move gives the Defender the Auto-Life status (as well as Regen), which will revive him after killing himself with Meltdown. Other ways for the Defender to get Auto-life include having a White magic user cast it on him, or to teach him the reaction ability Dragonheart from the Dragoon skill-set.
9. Which of the following weapons from "Final Fantasy 2 US" will not have an effect if used as an item?

Answer: Crystal sword

Cecil the Paladin's ultimate sword does nothing when used as an item. The Masamune offers Edge a no MP Fast spell, the Silver staff gives white wizards a no MP Heal, and the White lance gives Kain the Dragoon a no MP White spell.
10. Is there any point to playing the pianos in "Final Fantasy V"?

Answer: Yes

Playing the pianos found in various towns improves your musicianship skills to the point where Bards will teach you new songs to use with the Sing command. Finding all of them and playing them will unlock the Hero song, which increases your power for as long as a character sings it.
