Answer: Atari

Atari developed and published the game "Warlords" for the Atari 2600 console in 1978. The game was essentially "Breakout" but instead of one player trying to destroy a grid of blocks, there was four players who tried to destroy each others 'castles' with a fireball that bounces around the paddles on the four corners of the screen.
