quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which company released 'Black Ops II: Origins'? (Hint: They have also released other games in the 'Call of Duty' series.)

Answer: Treyarch

Treyarch, a Californian-based videogame development company, released their first games in 1998 ('Olympic Hockey Nagano 98' and 'Die by the Sword') before being acquired by Activision in 2001. In addition to several of the phenomenally successful 'Call of Duty' series, other Treyarch titles include the 'Tony Hawk's Pro Skater' series, 'Quantum of Solace' and 'Spider-Man'.

Infinity Ward, also owned by Activision, created the original 'Call of Duty' game plus several further titles in this series.
2. What is the setting for 'Origins'?

Answer: Western Front Battlefields of World War I

'Origins' is part of the DLC (downloadable content) included in 'Call of Duty: Black Ops II: Apocalypse'. It is also known as 'Dig Site' or 'Excavation Site 64'.
The setting is the bleak, war-ravaged trenches of northern France during World War I (1918). In many ways it is a prequel to past zombie levels. Links are constantly drawn between this new DLC and many aspects of previous 'Call of Duty' games, including the main characters, development of weapons and a meteor as the origin of the strange element creating the zombies.
3. What strange substance, found in a meteor, reanimates cells and creates zombies? (Hint: It can also pack-a-punch weapons and power the Ray Gun.)

Answer: Element 115

Element 115 is used extensively by Group 935, the Breslau (now Wroclaw)-based scientific group led by Dr Ludvig Maxis, focusing on developing wonder weapons throughout the zombies backstory. The material has been harvested from meteor fragments found on the moon, Groom Lake (Area 51), Tunguska, Shi No Numa and Der Riese. Amongst a long list of weaponry, Element 115 is used to make Monkey Bombs, the Quantum Entanglement Device and the Wave Gun in addition to creating zombies and the hellhounds.
4. Which of the following vehicles can be ridden during 'Origins'?

Answer: Mark IV tank

The tank moves between the Church and the Tank Station. After paying the 500 point activation fee, players can jump onboard where the top of the tank provides a vantage point to shoot zombies. The tank moves through the muddy ground faster than the players themselves can move and enables the only access to high points in the map where vital pieces for one of the staffs can be found. Just like the bus in TranZit, zombies can climb onto the tank, so it is not a completely safe refuge.

The tank also needs to cool down at the end of each run before it can be reused.
5. Which four playable characters return, as younger versions of themselves, in 'Origins'?

Answer: Richtofen, Takeo, Nikolai and Dempsey

The intelligent but sadistic Dr Edward Richtofen is part of Group 935 under the leadership of his mentor, Dr Ludvig Maxis. As part of the backstory, Richtofen tries to take over Group 935 by killing Maxis and his daughter Samantha. The plan fails and Samantha controls the zombies. Richtofen, with help from former 935 experimental subjects, Takeo Masaki, Tank Dempsey and Nikolai Belinski, try to wrest control of the zombies from her.

This backstory interweaves through all of the zombies games and levels.

Individual player choices determine how various scenarios unfold.
6. Which machine, when activated, gives a player a random perk bottle?

Answer: Der Wunderfizz

The operation of Der Wunderfizz machine mimics the Mystery Box (for obtaining weapons). At the cost of 1500 points, Der Wunderfizz will provide the player with a randomly chosen perk from a range including Double Tap Root Beer, Juggernog, PhD Flopper and Quick Revive.

After a prescribed number of uses, the teddy bear appears and the machine relocates. Its location is indicated by a spot suffering continuous lightning strikes.
7. Which power-up disguises the player as a zombie?

Answer: Zombie blood

Power-ups are found after killing certain zombies or from a variety of locations within a map. Unlike the more conventional power-ups e.g. InstaKill, Double Points, the icon for Zombie Blood is silver rather than gold and glows blue rather than green. Once Zombie Blood is taken, the player is surrounded by a red mist and will be ignored by zombies. During this time, the player hears a voice providing hints on where to find various equipment including pieces for the staffs.
8. Which of the following is NOT one of the elemental staffs that can be found (in pieces) in the map?

Answer: Thunder

Each of the four elemental staffs (Fire, Ice, Lightning and Wind) are assembled from four components that must be found, as they are scattered throughout the map. Once assembled, these weapons will kill multiple zombies in the vicinity. Each can be upgraded to an even more powerful version, with a greater lethal range and the ability to power-up by holding down the firing button.
9. The three Giant Robots, whose footsteps must be avoided by players, are all named after which entities?

Answer: Norse gods

The Giants are named Thor, Freya and Odin. They can be seen slowly moving around the battlefield and are usually easily avoided provided the player is not too distracted by the swarming zombies! Although being trampled by a giant footstep is most unwelcome, there is an opportunity for a player to shoot the lights on the Giant's foot.

A trapdoor then opens in that foot and the player can get inside to find important weapon parts.
10. Wielding a flamethrower and a giant claw, which enemy is a zombie in a large suit of armor?

Answer: Panzer Soldat

The Panzer Soldat (German for 'Tank Soldier') is easy to spot due to the bright light from its visor, but its weapons, jetpack and rocket thrusters in the boots make it a fearsome enemy. In melee range, it can bring down a player with one blow (two if the player has Juggernog). It often leaps from the map boundaries. Once killed it may drop a piece of one staff or a power-up.
