Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following is the odd one out?

Answer: Archangel

The three incorrect answers are all names for Jack, the powerful and hot-tempered biotic on your team. In the dossier given by the Illusive Man, she is known as "The Convict". She was known as "Subject Zero" during her stay at the Teltin facility, where Cerberus performed less than ethical experiments to make her into the powerful biotic that she is.

Archangel was a nickname given to Garrus Vakarian while he was operating on Omega because he was trying to undo the work of the less savory groups on the station.
2. Which of the following is not a minigame in "Mass Effect 2"?

Answer: Moving a cursor to the center of obstructed concentric rings

In "Mass Effect" for the Xbox 360, players had to play a game of Simon Says in order hack terminals and bypass security. In the PC version, players had to move a cursor to the center of concentric rings that had both static and moving obstacles.

In "Mass Effect 2" there are two new mini games. The hacking mini game, which involves selecting three correct code sequences, comes up when you are trying to hack a terminal for information or credits. The bypass mini game, which involves selecting pairs of pins with matching symbols, comes up when you are trying to bypass security systems to open crates and doors.
3. Who of the following do you not recruit on Illium?

Answer: Mordin

Illium is a neat world where you can recruit both Thane and Samara. You can also complete Miranda's loyalty mission there, as well as brows the shops and see your old friend Liara T'Soni, a squad member from "Mass Effect".

Mordin is recruited on Omega (along with Garrus) and his loyalty mission is on Tuchanka.
4. Why did Joker leave the Alliance?

Answer: The Alliance grounded him.

Joker explained that after Shepard died, he was grounded and that the Alliance and the Citadel just wanted to ignore any mention of the Reapers. After the Alliance took away the thing that mattered to him most, he left and joined Cerberus, though he claims it's just because they let him fly.
5. Which of the following is the best power to destroy biotic barriers?

Answer: Warp

Biotic barriers can be found on a number of enemies, including vanguards and Collectors. Heavy Warp is a good ability to use against barriers, and is nice because it is also effective against armor. Warp Ammo has similar effects.

Overload is good against shield bars (its ammo counterpart is Disrupter Ammo) and Incinerate is good against armor (along with Incendiary rounds) and causes unprotected enemies to stumble around in fear. Cryo Blast is best against unprotected targets.

Concussive Shot is also supposed to have a stronger effect on barriers than other protection bars.
6. What was the name of the Cerberus project that brought Shepard back to life?

Answer: Lazarus

The Lazarus project, run by the Lazarus cell, was responsible for bringing Shepard back to life. It spent billions of credits and took two years to complete. Miranda Lawson was the Cerberus officer in charge of the cell, and after the project was completed, the cell was then reassigned to help Shepard fight the Collectors. Jacob was also part of the Lazarus cell.

Project Firewalker was the name given to the M-44 Hammerhead, the successor of the M-35 Mako from "Mass Effect". The Hammerhead is available after downloading the Firewalker DLC (downloadable content), which adds a few planets and assignments.

Project Overlord (from the Overlord DLC) was a Cerberus project on Aite and was set up to find a way for organics to communicate with the geth. The idea was to exploit the geth's religious convictions.

Stolen Memory is the name of the DLC that adds Kasumi Goto and her loyalty mission.
7. Which two characters do you activate AFTER their respective recruitment missions?

Answer: Grunt and Legion

On Grunt's recruitment mission, you are actually looking to recruit Okeer, the old krogan responsible for making Grunt. During the final battle with Jedore, Okeer is killed when his room is flooded with poisonous gasses. Shepard decides to take the tank containing Okeer's masterpiece and keep it in the cargo hold of the Normandy. After the recruitment mission, Shepard has to go down to the hold and release the krogan from the tank to get Grunt on the team.

Legion's recruitment mission is the same as the mission to acquire the Reaper IFF. He is knocked out by a horde of husks and his body is rescued by Shepard when evacuating the derelict Reaper. Shepard then has to go to the AI storage room where they're keeping the body, and activate it.

Jack has to be released from cryo stasis during her recruitment mission, but because this is required to advance the mission, it does not count as "activating" her, especially because she's not on the Normandy during activation.

Garrus is nearly killed during his recruitment mission, and spends his first few hours on the Normandy in the med bay, but comes around on his own.
8. How do you get bonus powers in Mass Effect 2?

Answer: Completing loyalty missions

Each character has a standard layout of their four abilities. The first two are activated abilities, with the second one being unlocked after the first has reached level 2. The third is a passive ability that usually increases health, damage, or has other beneficial traits.

The fourth ability is unlocked after completing that character's loyalty mission, and is unique to that character. After a loyalty power has been unlocked, Shepard then has the option of using it. Shepard can only use one loyalty power at a time, but can change that power at Mordin's lab for a small amount of Element Zero.
9. Which hub do you recruit Jacob on?

Answer: None of these

Jacob is the first squad member you fight with, and you meet him soon after awaking on the Lazarus station.

On Omega you find Garrus and Mordin (and Zaeed if you got the Price of Revenge DLC), and on Illium you find Thane and Samara. The only character to be recruited on the Citadel is Kasumi (only available after acquiring the Stolen Memory DLC).
10. What is the symbol Joker's hat?

Answer: SR2

In "Mass Effect" Joker wore a baseball cap with "SR1" on it, and in "Mass Effect 2" he got a new hat with "SR2".

N7 is what can be seen on Shepard's armor. The N stands for special forces, and the 7 represents the level of proficiency (7 being the highest). Shepard graduated from his/her elite special forces training program as an extremely qualified marine.

The Alliance Military symbol is the same as the symbol for the manufacturer of the HMW series of weapons in "Mass Effect". Jenkins is seen wearing a beret with this symbol on in during the opening of "Mass Effect".

The Union Jack is not seen in "Mass Effect 2". This answer was a reference to Gaz from "Call of Duty 4" who wore a baseball cap with the Union Jack on it, and had facial hair similar to Joker's.
11. Who of the following was NOT genetically engineered?

Answer: Garrus

Garrus was not genetically engineered or modified, though after his recruitment mission he did have a few cybernetics installed (so did Shepard).

Miranda and her sister, Oriana, were both genetically engineered from their father to be perfect women. This has led Miranda to dwell on her mistakes rather than her successes. Because she is quite intelligent and capable, she feels that many people are expecting a lot from her, and that she can only take responsibility for her mistakes.

Grunt was engineered by Okeer in his quest to make a strong krogan that would ignore the insult of the genophage.
12. Which heavy weapon is also known as the "mini nuke launcher"?

Answer: Cain

A new weapon type for "Mass Effect 2" is heavy weapons. The first one you get is the grenade launcher on the Lazarus station. After that you can research ammo capacity and new heavy weapons in the lab on the Normandy. The last weapon you can research is the Cain, dubbed the "mini nuke launcher". The description says that it fires its projectile extremely fast and relies on its impact to deal damage rather than explosives in the round. It also creates a small mushroom cloud upon impact. Despite being told that it travels at over 5 km/s, you can still see the projectile and it is possible for enemies to move out of the way before impact.

Heavy weapon ammo is found in crates throughout missions, and does not refill itself between missions like the ammo of other weapons.
13. Which of the following pairs of will not have a fight after completing both loyalty missions?

Answer: Garrus and Thane

After completing loyalty mission for both Miranda and Jack, you will be warned about a fight in Miranda's office and will have to go and break it up. If you decide to take a side in the argument, you will lose the loyalty of one of your squad members. If you have a high enough paragon or renegade score, you can use other dialogue options to not take a side and retain the loyalty of both.

A similar argument with similar mechanics occurs between Tali and Legion.
14. Who do you recruit on Tuchanka?

Answer: No one

No one is recruited on Tuchanka, but both Mordin and Grunt have their loyalty missions there. There are also a few smaller assignments you can complete, shops with new items, and you can see your old friend Wrex, provided he survived "Mass Effect".

Mordin is recruited on Omega, Samara is recruited on Illium, and Grunt is acquired on Korlus.
15. Where does the Omega 4 relay send you?

Answer: The galactic core

The Omega 4 relay links to the galactic core, which was believed to be uninhabitable due to the sheer volume of stars going supernova and black holes. It turns out that the Collectors do not live on a planet, but have found a safe place for their space station. The exit of the Omega 4 relay is littered with debris from ships that tried to pass through it. Presumably this wreckage is due to the Collectors destroying anything that comes through (this is how the Reaper IFF saved the Normandy).

The Reapers are outside of the known galaxy, and presumably waiting in the dark void between galaxies.
