Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which route is blocked until we defeat Brock in Pewter City?

Answer: Route 3

Route 3 goes from the east end of Pewter City and it heads all the way to the entrance of Mt. Moon. Until we defeat Brock, there is no way of heading in this direction. On the route, we can battle a bunch of trainers and catch many Pokémon from Pidgey to Jigglypuff.

In "Pokémon Yellow", we can even catch Mankey and Sandshrew on this route. Spearow is also common in all three games. This route is one of the few to include a Pokécenter; it's left of the entrance to Mt. Moon.
2. Which route is Bill's house on?

Answer: Route 25

Bill is the creator of the Pokémon storage system that we use in the Pokécenters around Kanto. When we first arrive at Bill's, he'll be transformed into a Pokémon-like creature. When we turn him back to normal, he'll give us a ticket for the S. S. Anne in Vermilion City to the south. Route 25 is north of Cerulean City, and it's basically a dead end on the map. Bill can be met again in future "Pokémon" games.
3. What can be found on Route 5?

Answer: The Pokémon Daycare

The Pokémon Daycare will take a Pokémon off of our hands for us for a little while and let it still earn experience, learn new moves, and level up (and even evolve). In order to get it back, we'll need to pay the owner a fee based on how many levels the Pokémon is raised in the time that's spent. Route 5 also contains an entrance to Saffron City and a tunnel to Vermilion City.

It's located to the south end of Cerulean City.
4. Which Pokémon is only caught on Route 11?

Answer: Drowzee

In "Pokémon Yellow, Red, and Blue", Drowzee is only found on Route 11 to the east of Vermilion City. Drowzee is known for putting Pokémon to sleep using its effective Hypnosis attack, and it's one of the moves that he'll begin with when we catch one.

Although they're not that fast, Drowzees can learn excellent Psychic attacks in later levels and evolve into Hypno by the time they reach level 26.
5. Which route does not contain an entrance to an Underground Path?

Answer: Route 9

The Underground Paths transport people underneath Saffron City in the center of Kanto. Early in the game, we can't actually enter the city until we've fetched the guards a drink from Celadon City's Department Store, but using the paths, we can move between Vermilion and Cerulean City, and Lavender Town and Celadon City.

The passages contain many hidden items that can be found with the Item Finder, and we can ride our bike through the tunnel. The other route containing the Underground Path is Route 5, which also contains the daycare center.
6. Which route is better known as Cycling Road?

Answer: Route 17

Cycling Road is a sloped route where players can bike south at a fast speed. The route contains many trainers that are difficult to miss on the ride down, which contain as many powerful Pokémon as they do to the east of Fuchsia City. The route is directly between Celadon City and Fuchsia City, but to access it, we need to wake up a Snorlax to the north end on Route 16. Also on Route 17, we can visit a solitary hidden house in order to obtain HM02 containing Fly.

This HM will allow our Pokémon to fly us to towns we've visited in the game outside of battle. If we need a bike for Cycling Road, get a Bike Voucher from Vermilion City and take it to the bike shop in Cerulean City for a free bike.
7. On which route would we obtain the Super Rod?

Answer: Route 12

Like the Old Rod and the Good Rod, the Super Rod is used to capture water-type Pokémon found underwater. We may not always snag something, but with the Super Rod, we're likely to get a better Pokémon if we do find one. The Super Rod will find us Horseas and Poliwhirls in most areas with water, and we can even find Water Pokémon in Misty's Cerulean City gym.

The Super Rod doesn't cost any money, and neither do any of the other rods. Route 12 also contains one of the two Snorlaxes in the games.
8. Which route must we swim across?

Answer: Route 21

There are a number of routes in the south end of Kanto which are entirely filled with water because the area is in the sea. Regardless, people need to reach the nearby Cinnabar Island and Seafoam Island, so they swim or ride Pokémon. The area is littered with swimming trainers and Tentacools, so it's always great to bring along that grass or electric-type Pokémon to make some waves.
9. Which route holds the only obtainable Mr. Mime in the game?

Answer: Route 2

Mr. Mime is a rare psychic-type Pokémon that can only be added to our collection if we trade a trainer an Abra in "Pokémon Red or Blue" or a Clefairy in "Yellow". This Pokémon doesn't evolve, and it has moves like Confusion, Substitute, and Double Slap.

Not only can Mr. Mime be found on this route though; HM05 is also found here if we capture at least ten Pokémon before talking to Professor Oak's aide. HM05 contains Flash, and it's required if we want to see our way through the Rock Tunnel.
10. How many routes are there in the game(s)?

Answer: Twenty-Five

Routes are found in between towns and major locations throughout Kanto. It's possible to go through the game without visiting and crossing all of these routes, but many of them contain important items and trainers that can be beneficial to the game. Also, all routes contain certain Pokémon which may not be found anywhere else in the games. Routes can be on land or underwater. All underwater routes are found in the south end of Kanto.
