Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. X was first discovered in an underground lab that was excavated by whom?

Answer: Dr. Cain

The lab originally belonged to Dr. Light, but Dr. Cain unearthed the lab and activated X. Zero is X's partner and is the leader of the Maverick Hunter Unit #0. Dr. Cain created the Reploid Sigma to be a Maverick Hunter but Sigma went Maverick and became the main villain of the "Megaman X" series.
2. When you begin the game "Megaman X" you start off in a city. While traveling through the city you come across two helicopters shaped like huge blue bees. What are these bee robots called?

Answer: Bee Bladers

The name is announced when you beat the game and it tells all the names of the enemies in the stages. Bee Bladers fire a constant machine gun, fire missiles, and deploy robots. Probably the best strategy against Bee Bladers is to constantly jump and shoot. If you jump you can shoot the robots deployed since it won't affect them if you shoot their legs.
3. At the end of the city, you come across a boss which unfortunately you lose against no matter what. What is the name of this boss?

Answer: Vile

Vile is certainly what he is. Vile rides around in his armored carrier and X must battle him twice in the game. Both times he is in his armored carrier X loses and Zero saves him. X must battle him in and out of his armored carrier in Sigma's Fortress, Area I.

After defeating Vile, X shares a heart-wrenching moment with Zero as he dies. Vile has a weakness to the Homing Torpedo when out of his carrier. Vile also returns again in "Megaman X3" but is referred to, by Doppler, as Mysterious Maverick.
4. After beating the city level and a short dialogue with Zero, you go to a screen with eight bosses to choose from. A wise choice would be to go to the stage that has the Leg Upgrade. Whose stage holds the Leg Upgrade?

Answer: Chill Penguin

These four Mavericks hold upgrades that are permanent. Armored Armadillo holds another capsule but disappears if you restart the game. The Leg Upgrade is the easiest upgrade to get because you have to get it. It's in the way of the path. Once you enter the capsule, X's boots become a different color and you can dash by pressing the A button. You can perform a dash jump by pressing A and B simultaneously.
5. When you beat the boss whose stage holds the Leg Upgrade, what weapon do you get?

Answer: Shotgun Ice

Shotgun Ice is very effective against Spark Mandrill, the giant spider robot in Sigma's fortress, Area 1 and against Sigma's dog in Sigma's fortress, Area 4. Chill Penguin resides in the Snow Base and is probably one of the easiest bosses to beat even without his weakness (which is Fire Wave). Chill Penguin's stage also holds a heart tank, which will increase your life by a couple of bars but can only be obtained if you have Fire Wave.

After riding in the robot and destroying the first igloo, instead of going through the cave, jump out of the robot to go over the cave. Use Fire Wave on the first igloo on top of the cave and you'll find the heart tank inside.

After defeating Chill Penguin, the lava in Flame Mammoth's stage is frozen.
6. Most people would go to the Maverick that has a weakness to the weapon you just got but I don't. Instead I go to Storm Eagle's stage. Storm Eagle has several secret items in his stage. What is not one of the items found in his stage?

Answer: all of these are found in his stage

Storm Eagle's stage holds all three of these and most of them are fairly easy to find. His heart tank requires the Leg Upgrade. When you're at the very top of the lifts, dash jump off to the left. You'll land on an air traffic controller tower with a heart tank. To find the sub tanks, you will need to ride a lift that looks like a pillar. You will find a building with a hall of glass. Rather than going in through the front way, go over the building and go through the back way and you will find your first sub tanks.

There are four sub tanks and they hold life capsules if you collect any extra ones. Last you will find the Head upgrade. The Head upgrade is found behind four batteries which you can find in an area right next to the wire tower. Dash jump off the wire tower to find the four batteries. Destroy the batteries and you will get the Head Upgrade which allows you to break some blocks with your head.
7. What is unique about Storm Eagle's weapon, when it is used by him?

Answer: it doesn't hurt you

Storm Eagle uses Storm Tornado, but instead of hurting you it just pushes you back hoping to blow you off the airplane. When Storm Eagle decides to use this dash against it to avoid being blown off the plane. When you get Storm Tornado it does hurt enemies and is probably the most powerful weapon you will get.

It can penetrate shields and other hard areas of some Mavericks. Storm Eagle is weak to Chameleon Sting which you can get from Sting Chameleon.
8. After, beating Storm Eagle, I go by weaknesses next. Luckily, the boss I'm going after has another upgrade and another sub tank. Which boss' stage am I going to next?

Answer: Flame Mammoth

Flame Mammoth's stage, just like Storm Eagle's stage, has an upgrade to obtain, a heart tank, and a sub tank. Flame Mammoth also has a weakness to Storm Tornado. Flame Mammoth's stage holds the Arm upgrade and in order to get that you need the Leg and Head upgrade. By far this is the most difficult upgrade to get.

When you reach stationary platforms, you will see some breakable blocks on the ceiling. You must dash jump to those just right so you can break them with your head. Break the blocks and you will find a chamber with a capsule. Now you can charge up your weapon to a stronger purple blast, and you can charge up weapons you gain from bosses.

The hint was referring to the mammoth, a large elephant like creature that became extinct.
9. You've beaten three Mavericks so far and now you head to Spark Mandrill's stage. If you've beaten Storm Eagle, some serious changes have happened to Spark Mandrill's stage. Which of the following changes does not occur from beating Storm Eagle?

Answer: the mini-boss disappears

There's only a sub-tank and a heart tank in Spark Mandrill's stage but in this stage you will encounter a mini-boss no matter who you beat. However, beating Storm Eagle disables the boss' spark attack. Every now and then you will see air spout out of his vent which would normally be a lightning bolt. Spark Mandrill's mini boss also shoots out gel which will keep X stationary for a while unless he dashes out of it.

The heart tank can be found in this stage directly above the ladders that lead to the one-wheeled monsters. Climb up the wall and you will see it just dash jump to it.

In order to get the sub-tank you must have Boomerang Cutter. In the maze near the beginning go down the ladders and you will see the sub-tank. Jump while shooting Boomerang Cutter and the sub tank is yours.
10. If you beat the boss whose stage holds the Leg Upgrade, will you be able to beat Spark Mandrill without him even launching an attack?

Answer: Yes

Spark Mandrill has a serious weakness to Shotgun Ice. Spark Mandrill, when hit by Shotgun Ice, freezes momentarily. Once he breaks out of the ice wait till he puts his arms back down then blast him again. If you time it right he will stay frozen during the whole battle.
11. You've beaten four Mavericks now and have just gained Electric Spark. You will go to Armored Armadillo's stage next. Which of the following can not be found in Armored Armadillo's stage?

Answer: an endless supply of life capsules

Life capsules are abundant in Armored Armadillo's stage but you have to enter the stage several times to fill up all of your sub-tanks unless you went to spend the whole time shooting bats and hoping for the best. At the first mine cart track instead of riding the mine cart. Go down the track and you will see a humongous bat instead of the regular ones.

This bat will supply you with endless lives until you hold ten which is the most you can carry.
12. In Armored Armadillo's stage there are several chasms and several thorn pits. Both of these can do you in faster than you can say "dang it!" Besides thorns and chasms, is there something else in this stage that can kill you in one hit even if you have full life?

Answer: Yes

The two mole tanks that are in the stage can kill you with one hit if you hit their spikes. The best way to take out these guys is by using Fire Wave for very specific reasons. The first mole tank is behind a stone wall, slide down far enough to make it start moving then climb back up, and destroy it with Fire Wave.

After destroying it backtrack some and you will find a sub-tank behind where the first mole tank rested. If you destroyed it quick enough you should also be able to use the Head upgrade to destroy some blocks to get some life capsules to fill up your new sub tank...or an old one.

The second mole tank is more urgent to destroy very quickly. If you do not destroy it fast enough, you will miss your chance at getting the heart tanks which is in plain view. If you do not destroy the mole tank, the ledge will be too high for you to jump to.
13. Armored Armadillo can be a tough customer because he basically blocks anything you throw at him unless you have his weakness. Is Armored Armadillo unable to block Electric Spark?

Answer: No

Armored Armadillo can block Electric Spark which makes him a real pain. The best time to hit him with Electric Spark is shortly after he rolls around the room. Once he pops out hit him with Electric Spark making his armor fall off this makes him so much easier to defeat now that he can't block any. After beating Armored Armadillo you get a very useful weapon called Rolling Shield.
14. You have Rolling Shield, so the next stop is the Launch Octopus stage, otherwise known as the mini-boss stage, containing five mini-bosses if you include the boat. Speaking of boat...after destroying the boat and another mini-boss what item do you get?

Answer: a heart tank

You do get the satisfaction of beating almost all of the mini-bosses, but after fighting the boat and the sea serpent you still have to fight another sea serpent. Before destroying the last three mini-bosses you have to defeat two submarines which will suck you in, hurt you with a searchlight and shoot long snaky robots at you.

The sea serpent in the hidden chamber can be a real pain if you take the strategy of climbing on top of it and shooting it. Why? Because once you destroy the sea serpent you have the very likely chance of falling on the thorns below.

After defeating the sea serpent, go all the way to the right of the chamber to get the heart tank. It sure is a lot of trouble to go through four mini-bosses just to get a heart tank and still have to fight one more.
15. When facing Launch Octopus he uses an attack where he encases himself in a whirlpool. What is this move called?

Answer: E. Drain

You can find this out if you click on the Spec. tab on the stage select screen. It is plausible that the E stands for Energy. If you get caught in this whirlpool, Launch Octopus will suck energy from you and transfer it to his. During this whirlpool, he is also invincible. Launch Octopus is very difficult as you actually have to be right next to him, close enough for contact, just to hit him.

This is because your weapon will most likely hit the torpedoes and angelfish he launches out of his tentacles.

After beating Launch Octopus you get Horming Torpedo which will be useful against your next boss and two bosses you will fight in Sigma's fortress Area 1.
16. After beating Launch Octopus, you go to one of the weirdest named bosses, Boomer Kuwanger. Boomer Kuwanger's stage has only one secret which is the heart tank. Do you have to go into his stage twice to get the heart tank?

Answer: No

Many people think that you have to go into his stage twice using Boomerang Cutter to get the heart tank, but that is not true...if you have the right equipment. If you have the Arm Upgrade and Shotgun Ice you can get the heart tank the first time you see it. Just power up Shotgun Ice, ride the iceboard out there, and jump and nab the heart tank. Boomer Kuwanger's stage also contains an elevator with thorns and those annoying, purple, flying enemies.

The Arm Upgrade and a weapon come in handy here too. Before stepping on the elevator, power up Rolling Shield to encase yourself in a blue aura. During this blue aura, the purple enemies will fly into you and get destroy on impact leaving you only to have to worry about the thorns.

This strategy also comes in handy when climbing on the lifts in Sigma's fortress, Area 1.
17. You've now defeated Boomer Kuwanger and got Boomerang Cutter. Only one stage left and that's into the forest. What is the boss' name who resides in the forest?

Answer: Sting Chameleon

Sting Chameleon also shares the name of his weapon, Chameleon Sting. In this stage you get to ride around in another armored carrier and there is a heart tank and upgrade to be found. In order to get the heart tank, you must have defeated Launch Octopus which floods the stage. Slide down the chasm right before the cave with the rock men in it and blast through the blocks.

The water will allow you the extra height to dash jump over to the heart tank.
18. In order to get the upgrade in this stage you must battle a hidden mini-boss. Which color does the mini-boss not have on him?

Answer: blue

The mini-boss is not very hard he just jumps around and shoots his claws at you. Just avoid the claws and aim for his weak spots which are his head, the bottom of his feet when he's about to land and his whole body when his claws are extended. The boss can be found on a ledge above the cave with rock men in it.

After defeating the robot, a capsule will appear and you will have a Body upgrade which reduces damage by about 50%.
19. At last, the final battle has begun. You are about to infiltrate Sigma's fortress but it may be a good idea to fill up your sub tanks and obtain anything you missed. Also if you have everything you can get a secret upgrade which gives X what special ability?

Answer: Hadoken

Hadoken was the fireball that Ryu and Ken used from the "Street Fighter" series, also created by Capcom. X can now use it but there are some special conditions. Hadoken is very powerful as it can destroy any enemy including Sigma with one hit. However, it can only be used if all of X's life is full.

The capsule can be found in the alcove above the boss door to Armored Armadillo's stage. You must have all four sub tanks, all eight heart tanks, all four upgrades, and all eight special weapons to get the upgrade. Just go through Armored Armadillo's stage several times and get the life capsule in the alcove above the boss' door than you can use Escape U. or go through the door and exit the stage. Do this several times and eventually a capsule will appear and Dr. Light will give you the upgrade.

However, if you restart the game or turn it off you'll have to go through the process again.
20. In the first stage of Sigma's fortress you must battle through turtles, climb dangerous lifts, and run into an entourage of familiar faces including Zero and Boomer Kuwanger. Also you must battle a large spider robot at the end of the stage. What is the spider robot's weakness?

Answer: Shotgun Ice

The spider robot is large and travels along a four pole matrix. The only attack it has besides collision with you is releasing four little spider robots which go across the floor and walls. Don't bother destroying these because the spider robot will just release more.

The spider only has one weakness and that's its' red core which appears only after it reaches the floor. After defeating the spider you will travel along to another Sigma stage.
21. You have infiltrated Sigma's fortress and now you are inside battling through another entourage of robots. You have to battle through the birds this time destroying Chill Penguin and Storm Eagle a second time. At the end of the stage you must battle a face Reploid. How many parts must you destroy to defeat the Reploid face?

Answer: Three

The face has two eyes and a nose which you must destroy. The eyes can turn blue, red, or green and will shoot energy balls at you and collide with you. After the eyes attack the walls will close in and the nose will move in a figure eight shape trying to collide into you and knock you into the thorns below.

The face has a weakness to Chameleon Sting which is a good reason to defeat Storm Eagle with your X-Buster.
22. Sigma sets you through another part of the fortress. This time the majority of the bosses are back and you have to battle through all different terrains. However, throughout this stage there is a weapon that you can power up to obtain a large life capsule, a large weapon capsule, and an extra life. Which weapon must you power up to get these items?

Answer: Chameleon Sting

The location of these items are across a bed of thorns. Rolling Shield may protect you from several things when encompassed by it but thorns are not one of them. When Chameleon Sting is fully powered up, you flash several different colors making you completely invulnerable unless you fall down a chasm.

The aura also allows you to pass through enemies which makes it useful climbing up long wells crawling with enemies. The large boss at the end of the stage has a weakness to Boomerang Cutter.
23. You have finally reached the last stage of Sigma's fortress. Make sure you fill up your sub tanks because you will need every single one of them! You must battle through three challenging bosses. Which one of the following weapons is not a weakness to a boss in Sigma's fortress, Area 4?

Answer: Storm Tornado

Storm Tornado may be useful against Sigma in his first form since it will damage even if he's blocking with his light saber. Sigma's true weakness though is Electric Spark but he can block that with his light saber. Sigma's dog is weak to Shotgun Ice and Sigma's final form is weak to Rolling Shield.
24. What company is mostly responsible for creating the "Mega Man" and "Mega Man X" series?

Answer: Capcom

Capcom has also made the popular "Street Fighter" series. Rare is responsible for games such as the "Donkey Kong Country" series and first-person shooters for the N64 such as "Goldeneye," "Perfect Dark," and "Jet Force Gemini."
25. After the credits, Sigma makes one final appearance which obviously shows that a sequel is coming. What form does Sigma now possess even though he has been defeated?

Answer: virus

Sigma appears in a virus form in "Megaman X3," and in "Megaman X5". Sigma always has multiple forms in the "Megaman X" series. He has also infected Reploids to do his dirty work. He was also the first boss to actually fight Megaman. In the "Megaman" series Megaman had to go against the evil Dr. Wily who always used machines to do his bidding.
