Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. These collectable, shiny objects are scattered throughout many games in the "Sonic" franchise. They serve as a form of protection, and gathering one hundred of them will grant the player an extra life. What are they?

Answer: Rings

The ring has been a "Sonic" staple since the series inception on the Sega Megadrive in 1991. In later games, collecting fifty rings often allows Sonic to transform into 'Super Sonic'.
2. Which console game library includes the titles "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune", "Resistance: Fall of Man", "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots", and "LittleBigPlanet"?

Answer: Playstation 3

The imaginatively titled Playstation 3 was released in Japan on November 11, 2006. It boasted an impressive game catalogue, powerful hardware specs and an inbuilt blu-ray player.
3. What is the name of the console released in North America in 2001 by Microsoft? (Australian, Japanese and European releases followed in 2002.)

Answer: Xbox

Somewhat confusingly, the Xbox Three is entitled the 'Xbox One', while the first Xbox is known simply as 'The Xbox'. Microsoft's entry into the console market was the first American console since the Atari Jaguar folded in 1996.
4. The lawyer Phoenix Wright is the hero of numerous games, during which he solves crimes in order to successfully prosecute the perpetrators. What catchphrase is he known to say regularly?

Answer: "Objection!"

The popular game series includes many entries and was adapted into a film in 2012. Phoenix himself is easily recognisable, with his sharp blue suit, red tie and ridiculously spiky haircut, and his slow progress into competent lawyer is great fun to play.
5. Which console was the first entry in the "Phantasy Star Online" series released on?

Answer: Dreamcast

Developed by Team Sonic and published by Sega, "Phantasy Star Online" was first released onto the Dreamcast in 2000, although the "Phantasy Star" games had existed since 1987 previously, on the Sega Master System. The games were hugely important as part of the Dreamcast's online subscription service, which might be seen as a precursor to later popular services such as Xbox Live.

The Dreamcast was the first major console to offer online play in this manner.
6. Which of these are the names of "Grand Theft Auto V's" main playable protagonists?

Answer: Michael, Franklin and Trevor

"Grand Theft Auto V" was the first series title to include multiple playable characters outside of multiplayer mode, although the feature had originally been intended for "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas". The title earned 1 billion US dollars within three days of its release, making it the best-selling entertainment product ever (at the time).
7. The popular "Mario Party" series has appeared on multiple Nintendo consoles. Which was the first iteration to be designed specifically for the Wii?

Answer: 8

The series of "electronic board games" continues to be popular, if not always critically well received. The games have also held the record for the longest running mini-game series.
8. Tidus, of "Final Fantasy X", plays which imaginary sport?

Answer: Blitzball

Blitzball is essentially a mixture of various real life sports, such as football, rugby and water polo. Minigames have gradually become more and more a core part of the "Final Fantasy" experience, the first major example being the Gold Saucer in "Final Fantasy VII".
9. What is the name of the tribe of enemies that appears in "Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze"?

Answer: The Snomads

Retro Studios made the interesting design choice of omitting to include series regular enemies, the Kremlings, for the second time since taking over the game franchise. Their first game, "Donkey Kong Country Returns", introduced the new enemies known as the Tikis.

While the Kremlings and King K. Rool do not appear in "Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze", there are several homages spread throughout the game to suggest that while gone, they are not forgotten.
10. Which of these technological inventions may not be found in "Thief" (2014)?

Answer: Guns

Players control Garrett, a Master Thief, as he roams through a dark, Victorian-esque Steampunk World. "Thief" is set considerably later than the earlier games in the series, which were more medieval in tone.
