Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Other than Bowser, what enemy do you fight in Bowser's Castle at the beginning of the game?

Answer: Terrapin

In the beginning of the game, Bowser flies to Mario's Pad and captures Princess Toadstool who was sitting quietly on a mushroom (or toadstool). Mario went to rescue her from Bowser's Castle. When you enter, you have the option of fighting Bowser's only line of defense, the Terrapins. Terrapins are Koopa-like guards which can be defeated in only one attack.

Despite the fact that Mario can't use Timed Hits yet, this portion is extremely easy, and you don't really get any experience from them, so it may be best to avoid them entirely. You are forced to fight a few of these enemies, but it's nothing you can't handle.
2. Where do you fight Bowser in Bowser's Castle?

Answer: On the chandeliers

After crossing some bridges, you'll come across the main room of Bowser's Castle, but still, nothing can be found. When Mario looks up, he'll find Princess Toadstool hanging from the ceilings, and the battle with Bowser will begin. In this battle, don't focus on Bowser.

Instead, use Jump on the kinklink connected to the chandelier. Two good Jump attacks, and the chandelier will fall to the ground. When everything seems alright, Bowser throws a hammer and nearly causes Mario to crash to the ground as well, but with a priceless jump, Mario reaches the chains and climbs to the Princess.

When it seems like a happy ending, a loud rumbling can be heard and Smithy's Sword crashes into the castle tossing Mario, Bowser, Princess Toadstool, and seven stars across the land. Now the game really begins...
3. What is the name of Mario's Pad?

Answer: The Pipehouse

When Mario is thrown out of Bowser's castle, he falls into the chimney of his house at the location known as Mario's Pad. After talking to Toad, Mario heads back to Bowser's Castle, but Smithy's Sword destroys the bridge to the castle, and all you can do is look across the canyon from Vista Point.

After telling the story to Toad, he tells you to meet him in Mushroom Kingdom where they will tell the story to the Chancellor. After a brief optional training course, the journey begins.
4. How many times is it possible to save Toad in Mushroom Way?

Answer: Three

The first leg of your journey takes you to Mushroom Way which is apparently infested with enemies. Really, all you'll need to worry about are harmless Goombas, Sky Troopas, and Spinies. If you're good at Timed Hits, then you may escape some battles without taking a single hit! Along the way, Toad will be in somewhat minor peril, and you'll need to defeat a few monsters to help him out. Usually, this results in a reward of a Flower Tab or a Honey Syrup, but it's all good for the minor boss at the end of the trail. You can save Toad from a Goomba, a Sky Troopa, and the Hammer Bros.
5. What attack does a Hammer Bro. use when its brother has been defeated?

Answer: Valor Up

At the end of Mushroom Way, Toad will be held hostage by the Hammer Bros. To defeat them easily, use your Jump attack repeatedly and use the Honey Syrups to refill your Flower Points. After defeating one Hammer Bro., the other will raise their defense with Valor Up, and it will take an extra Jump to defeat him.

When the battle is over, you'll get a Flower Jar to raise Flower Points, and you'll earn your first weapon, the Hammer. Equip the weapon and your attack power will be raised. After this, Mushroom Kingdom is just a stone's throw away!
6. What will the Chancellor give you in Mushroom Kingdom?

Answer: A map

After talking with the Chancellor, Mario is delegated the task of returning her to the castle. After leaving, Mario comes across Mallow, a 'Frog' from Tadpole Pond who had a coin stolen from him. After a small talk, Mario and Mallow team up and pursue the thief. Mallow is a good defensive character, but he lacks a good offensive attack until later in the game.
7. Which is not an enemy found on Bandit's Way?

Answer: Boo

Bandit's Way is a great area where you can level up Mallow and Mario. Frogogs are ugly creatures which closely resemble mutated frogs, and although they have high HP, their attacks are weak. Spinies, like on Mushroom Way, will be in good supply, and they shouldn't pose much of a threat. K-9s are odd dog-like enemies with two special attacks. Fangs will do a bit more damage while Howl will cause a character to feel afraid.

This of course can be prevented in the future with the Fearless Pin accessory.
8. What did Croco steal from Mallow?

Answer: Frog Coin

After a wild chase through Bandit's Way, Mario, Mallow, and Croco will come to a dead end and Croco will attempt to hide on you. Sneak up behind him three times and the battle will begin. In the beginning of the battle, use Fire Orb, and you could possibly burn him enough to prevent him from attacking for a small bit. During the battle, Croco will use bombs, attacks, and Weird Mushrooms (which will refill 60 HP).

At the end of the battle, Mallow will get his Frog Coin back, and Croco will drop a wallet which you can exchange for money at a shop (or you can return it to its owner in Mushroom Kingdom).

A trampoline will appear at the dead end, and you can bounce back to the entry/exit of Bandit's Way.
9. When you return to Mushroom Kingdom after beating Croco at Bandit's Way, what are the names of the Shy Guy enemies that will be bouncing around?

Answer: Shysters

Upon returning to Mushroom Kingdom, you'll notice that things have gotten pretty ugly. The whole town has been overrun with Shysters bouncing around on pogo sticks, the shopkeeper is cowering in the corner (although you can still buy things), and the sky is dark.

While battling Shysters, they may use their normal attack (by jumping on you), or they may use their second attack, Drain, which shoots an odd orange bubble at you. You can pass by all of the enemies outside and enter the castle to stop this problem at the source, or you can rid the town of Shysters while earning experience points.

It's your call.
10. What is the name of the boss in Mushroom Kingdom?

Answer: Mack

When you visit the throne room of Mushroom Kingdom, you will be greeted by six Shysters and the one behind everything, Mack. A boss fight will begin, and you'll need to fight Mack and four of his loyal Shysters. If you have a high enough level, you can defeat the Shysters immediately with Mallow's Thunderstorm, and you can focus on the main enemy. Mack will use his regular attack along with his special move, Flame Wall.

This attack will hit both Mallow and Mario without letting you block it. After a while, the Shysters will begin to return to the match, so just keep getting rid of them and you'll have a better battle.

After defeating Mack, the Chancellor will emerge from his hiding place and Mario will receive the star that Mack left behind. Meanwhile, two Shysters observing from the sidelines will head back to their leader to tell the bad news. Now I guess, you could always exchange that Frog Coin you worked so hard to retrieve for a Cricket Pie...
