Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where in the U.S.A. are you, if your plane lands at Logan Airport?

Answer: Boston

For Washington D.C., John Foster Dulles Airport might be the airport to land at. And for Chicago, O'Hare is a possible option. In Denver they have Denver International Airport or DIA.
2. Which of these pairs are NOT airports in the same country?

Answer: Gardermoen & Bromma

Gardermoen is in Oslo (it replaced Fornebu); Bromma is Stockholm. Both are Scandinavian but are not in same country.

Fornerbu closed for good in 1998 after 59 years as Oslo's main airport. Le Bourget and Orly are Paris, and Heathrow and Gatwick are London: so France and U.K. Dum Dum is Calcutta, in India, and Chhatrapati Shivaji is Bombay, also in India.
3. Where have you arrived, if your plane lands at Kloten Airport?

Answer: Switzerland

Kloten is Zurich's airport. Belgium's main airport is Zaventem. Melsbroek is a military airport. In the Netherlands, Schiphol is the most widely-known airport. By the way, Dutch and Flemish travellers might frown at the names the Swiss give to their airports.
4. In what country would you find the airports of Narita and of Haneda?

Answer: Japan

Spain's main airports are El Prat (Barcelona) and Barajas (Madrid). Singapore has SIA or Singapore Airlines and Changi is the name of its airport. Thailand has BKK Bangkok Airport.

Narita is the busiest and biggest international airport in Japan. Just as Haneda it is near Tokyo. Kansai Regional near Osaka is another very important Japanese airport. So is Sendai. Air Nippon is one of Japan's best-known airlines.
5. What country are you in when the local airplanes have the civil airmarkings N ?

Answer: U.S.A.

Spain is EC.
Germany is D.
Netherlands is PH.
By the way Britain is G.
6. If you are in John F. Kennedy Airport, you of course are in New York. But what was the name of the airport, before the assassination of JFK?

Answer: Idlewild

La Guardia Airport, New York, is named after the legendary mayor of New York, Fiorello La Guardia (1882-1947). Joe di Maggio is a legendary character too, but he never became mayor of New York and no airport was named after him. Ryan Air, not O'Ryan Air, calls itself "the low fares airline".
7. Prior to 2012, which country were you in if Malev was the national airline?

Answer: Hungary

Portugal has TAP and Poland has LOT. Scandinavian countries have SAS as their joint national airline.
8. If you live in Holland, what is the name of your national airline?

Answer: KLM

Schiphol is the most important Dutch airport and is situated near Amsterdam. KLM literally means Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij; so you fly with a kind of "Queen's Own Aviation Company".
9. With whom do you fly, when you fly Qantas?

Answer: Australians

In the past if you wanted to fly with the Swiss you could fly Swissair. Now this would be SWISS. Also Sabena disappeared, but Belgium now has Brussels Airlines. If you want to fly with the Austrians then you should go for Austrian Airlines, Lauda or Tyrolean.
10. Tempelhof was formerly one of Germany's most important airports, but it closed in October 2008. What town was it in?

Answer: Berlin

Tempelhof became famous during the Berlin Blockade and Airlift. Apart from Tempelhof, Berlin still has Schönefeld, Tegel and Berlin Brandenburg International. Germany's main airline is of course Lufthansa.
