The Navy was formed first in the 16th Century, followed by a standing Army following the restoration of the monarchy in 1660 and not surprisingly the Royal Air Force was formed last - in 1918.

2. Which of these UK military ranks is the highest?

Answer: They are all the same

They are all the highest possible ranks in each service. No matter what the senior service says, they are all equal.

3. One of the greatest military commanders of British military history is very well known as the Duke of Wellington but what was his real name?

Answer: Arthur Wellesley

He was born to the Earl of Mornington within the Pale area of Dublin. Whenever he was asked about his Irish birth he would reply with the phrase, 'Just because one is born in a stable it does not make him a horse'. His words not mine and no offence is intended.

4. What non-commissioned rank falls between Lance Corporal and Sergeant?
