Wood Buffalo National Park is located in Alberta but in the far north of that province. It is not located within the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks.
2. Canada's famous Dinosaur Provincial Park is located within which province?

Answer: Alberta

Dinosaur Provincial Park is located near the town of Brooks, Alberta. The park is world known for the abundance of dinosaur fossils found there amount to hundreds of fossils of dozens of different dinosaur species. In addition to dinosaurs, the park is also home to well preserved fossils and remains of other animal and plants species, especially ferns.
3. Landscape of Grande Pre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that marks the center of which Canadian colony?

Answer: Acadia

Grand-Pre National Park is located in what used to be Pre in Acadia. Pre was the main settlement within the Acadian colony located in Nova Scotia. Pre was the site of several major battles between French settlers and the British. After the Acadians were expelled from the area and many of them died, Grand-Pre was largely forgotten about until Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem "Evangeline" about the expulsion of the Acadians was published in 1847.
4. Old Town Lunenburg in Nova Scotia is considered by UNESCO to be a prime example of British settlement in Canada for what reason?

Answer: It is largely unchanged since the 1800s

Lunenburg's Old Town had remained virtually unchanged since the late 19th century. Many of the buildings were constructed with local wood and have not been majorly renovated since the initial construction. The layout of the Old Town has also not changed since. Even Lunenburg's New Town has remained the same since it sprang up over a century ago.

In addition, Lunenburg is notable because it was one of the first Protestant British settlements in North America. Even to this day, the town's major economic resource is its vast fishing industry.
5. For what reason was Ontario's Rideau Canal built?

Answer: War strategy

The Rideau Canal was constructed in 1826 and was first conceived during the War of 1812. Canada, then part of Britain, was concerned about an American invasion during the War that would cut off Ontario from Montreal. The Rideau Canal was built as a backchannel for soldiers and others to travel from Montreal to Ottawa via Kingston.

The main route, it was feared, would be blocked and controlled by Americans potentially cutting off one side of Canada from the other. Although the War of 1812 ended nearly a decade before its construction, the project went forward due to constant fears of the invasion.
6. The Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park crossed the Canadian border into which U.S. state?

Answer: Montana

The Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park is located in Alberta and Montana, which is known as the Glacier State. This UNESCO World Heritage site is actually two national parks: Waterton Lakes in Canada and Glacier National Park in the United States. Although this is one heritage site, the parks operate independently from one another
7. Áísínaiʼpi is the Blackfeet name of the Alberta park best known for what feature?

Answer: Rock carvings

Áísínaiʼpi is known, in English, as Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park and is home to a large collection of ancient rock carvings. The park is home to the largest amount of rock carvings in North America, if not the world. It is also home to many Native American tribes, especially the Blackfeet People.

There are many hoodoo rock formations in the park. A hoodoo is a type of rock tower formed from wind erosion and appears to look like rocks stacked on one another.
8. Nahanni National Park Reserve is located in which Canadian territory?

Answer: Northwest Territories

Nahanni National Park is home to a series of white-water rivers, canyons and other geological formations in Northwest Territories. One of these famous features is Virginia Falls, a 1600-foot tall waterfall. The park is also home to the Rabbitkettle Hot Springs located within a series of tufa (limestone deposits) that are extremely fragile and delicate.

There is a wide variety of animal life in the park, many of whom are endangered species. These include the peregrine falcon and the wood bison.
9. Mistaken Point is a heritage site in Newfoundland and Labrador but what was it mistaken for?

Answer: Cape Race

Mistaken Point is so named because sailors confused it with Cape Race which is nearby. Both places are located on the Avalon Peninsula but Cape Race is closer to the Atlantic Ocean while Mistaken Point is more inland. Sailors who mistook Mistaken Point for Cape Race would head northward earlier than they were supposed to and frequently sailed into the jagged rock formations instead of into the Atlantic Ocean.

Mistaken Point and the surrounding area are also home to numerous fossil deposits. Many of the fossils discovered there can also be found in Europe, suggesting Newfoundland and Labrador was once connected to Europe.
10. L'Anse aux Meadows is the only Norse settlement in Canada.

Answer: True

L'Anse aux Meadows is the remnants of an old Norse settlement in northern Newfoundland. It was discovered in the 1960s and is the only Norse settlement in all of North America outside of Greenland. It is believed Vikings settled the area circa 1000 in a heavily wooded area. Today, L'Anse aux Meadows is largely flat grassland with very little trees.
