Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In what city would you be able to look up and see the famous "Acropolis"?

Answer: Athens

The Acropolis is a complex of buildings, the most recognised is the white, columned Temple to Athena called the Parthenon.
2. In what Italian city can you see a column which marks the end of the Roman route called "The Appian Way"?

Answer: Brindisi

The Appian Way was a marvel of Roman engineering and the modern road still follows much of the same route. I have heard it said that part of the modern road still sits on the Roman foundations, the original road was made so well.
3. In which city would you see a white church called "Sacre Coeur" atop a high hill?

Answer: Paris

Built at the end of the 19th century atop Montmartre hill, it commands wonderful views of Paris and the climb, up the many steps, is well worth it.
4. The famous mountain called "The Matterhorn" is in the Alps, but what part of the Alps?

Answer: the Swiss/ Italian border

Fear and the technical difficulty of the mountain made it the last in the Alps to be climbed.
5. In which city can you ride in a massive sightseeing wheel, erected in the year 2000?

Answer: London

The London Eye was a millennium project.
6. Where in London would you see "Nelson's Column"?

7. In what country can the famous Roman aqueduct "Pont du Gard" be seen?

The Romans built aqueducts to bring water to towns from the source. Pont du Gard is a bridge that carried the aqueduct over the River Gard and is probably the most famous of the remaining aqueduct portions.
8. In what country might you see the 3km-long storm surge barrier called the Oosterscheldedam, or "The Eastern Scheldt Barrier"?

Answer: The Netherlands

The barrier was completed in 1986 to allow normal water flow into the deltas of Zeeland but can be closed in storm conditions to avoid devastating floods like those in 1953.
9. The Leaning Tower of Pisa can hardly be left off a quiz about landmarks. But where is Pisa?

Answer: central Italy, not far from the western coast

Pisa is well worth a visit. The famous leaning belltower stands in a complex of buildings which also includes a baptistry and a church.
10. And now to finish off with the world's most famous landmark. We all know the Eiffel Tower is in Paris. But what river can you see from the Eiffel Tower?
