Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If you were travelling in Scotland, and you didn't know Gaelic, which of these might be a good phrase to memorize?

Answer: Chan eil mi 'tuigsinn.

It means "I don't understand." *Grin* "An toil leat càise?" means "Do you like cheese?". I suppose it's useful enough of a phrase, but I don't see how it would help you tell people you don't know Gaelic.
2. Which of these words means "Good"?

Answer: They both do.

3. Which of these might you eat?

Answer: currain

Currain is carrots, ceilidh is a gathering, chridheil is Christmas, and DiḌmhnaich is Sunday (but not sundae!) *Grin*
4. How many fingers do you have? (Yes, including thumbs!)

Answer: a deich

5. What colour are clouds (Choose most appropriate answer)?

Answer: geal

Geal is white, donn is brown, gorm is blue, and uaine is green. Clouds could also be black or grey, but those answers weren't listed, were they? :)
6. How might you RELEVANTLY respond to the question, "Ciamar a tha thu?"

Answer: Tha mi gu ḍigheil.

The question is, "How are you?" and the correct response is, "I am fine, thank you." The others would not make sense: "It will be dry tomorrow." "I am learning it."
7. Which of the following words means "cold"?

Answer: fuar

8. Which of these is not a greeting?

Answer: Oidhche mhath

"Là math" is "Good day," "MadInn mhath" is "Good morning," "Feasgar math" is "Good afternoon" or "Good evening." But "Oidhche mhath" means "Good night" and is only used in parting.
9. Beannachd means?

Answer: Blessed

To say good-bye in Gaelic, you might say "Beannachd leibh" which means, literally, "Blessings go with you".
10. Which of the following phrases might you say if you were feeling rushed?

Answer: Fuirich mionaid!

It means "Wait a minute!" "Greas ort!", on the other hand, means "Hurry up!". As for "Bracaist!" and "Buntàta!"... I'm sure you could yell "Breakfast!" or "Potatoes!" at the top of your lungs if you wanted to... although I'm not sure how much good it would do you!
11. Which of these is NOT a food?

Answer: Fhoghar

"Aran," "́m," and "silidh" are "bread," "butter," and "jam." "Fhoghar," on the other hand, means "Autumn."
12. What would be polite to say after somebody gave you a gift?

Answer: Tapadh leibh.

Obviously, it means "Thank you." Again, "An toil leat càise?" means "Do you like cheese?" (I love that phrase!), "Tha uighean againn" means "We have eggs" and "Diardaoin" means "Thursday."
13. Which phrase might you say if you wanted something to eat?

Answer: Tha an t-acras orm.

It means "I am hungry." "Tha am pathadh orm" means "I am thirsty," "Tha an la fuar" means "The day is cold," and "Dè no naidheachd?" means "What is your news?"
14. Which of these days follows Sunday?

Answer: Diluain

"Disathurna" is Saturday, "Dimàirt" is Tuesday, and "Diciadain" is Wednesday.
15. What is true about the following? "Is tu fuil 'o mo chuislean, is tu cnaimh de mo chnaimh. Is leatsa mo bhodhaig, chum gum bi sinn 'n ar n-aon. Is leatsa m'anam gus an criochnaich ar saoghal."

Answer: It is a Gaelic Blood Vow.

On many occasions, a blood vow was used alongside a Christian service. This is how it translates: "You are blood of my veins, you are bone of my bone. Yours is my body, that we may be one. Yours is my soul until our worlds end."
